MISSION STATEMENT Mission Statement: The Academy of Notre Dame, Tyngsboro, a Catholic private school, sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, is based on the educational philosophy of their foundress, St. Julie Billiart. The Academy offers rigorous educational programming from Pre-K through a college-preparatory Upper School.

Our mission focuses on educating the whole person for life through a curriculum rooted in spiritual formation and academic excellence. We nurture a belief in the goodness of God and the dignity of each person. We are committed to community-building, diversity, global justice and service to those in need.

ACCREDITATIONS The Academy of Notre Dame is a member school of the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). The school has achieved full accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). We are members of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).

SCHOOL COMMUNITY Since 1854 the Academy of Notre Dame has been a respected secondary educational institution. Our mission is to educate the whole student both academically and spiritually. Students come from more than 30 communities throughout Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire, as well as a growing number of international countries.

The student body represents a diverse blend of cultures, economic backgrounds and faiths. There are 33 students in the class of 2022.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM Academy students receive a rigorous college preparatory education that provides empowering opportunities and real-life applications. It is a vibrant and friendly community where students are valued as an individual and encouraged to speak up and take charge. Small classroom settings and low teacher-to-student ratios help students find their voice and become leaders both in the community and beyond.

Admission is based on testing, competitive academics, recommendations and a personal interview. Our academic program provides outstanding STEM and humanities-focused academics. We also offer varsity athletics, and vast opportunities for extracurricular activities. The Academy places a high priority in developing leadership skills among students.

Academy students far exceed national and state averages on AP exam test scores. 100% of Academy students who apply attend college, choosing among quality opportunities and extensive college scholarship offerings.

COMMUNITY SERVICE Community service is a Hallmark of a Notre Dame community. While service hours are not a graduation requirement at the Academy, our students willingly participate on their own accord in service projects both in and out of school throughout the year.

Service projects have included local and international volunteering, with students logging more than a thousand hours of community service.

DAILY SCHEDULE Classes at the Academy meet on a modified block schedule. Students take six to seven classes each day, for 40 or 80 minutes.

graduation requirements To qualify for an Academy of Notre Dame high school diploma, each student must earn a minimum of 25 credits in the following disciplines:

4 Credits of Theology

3 Credits of Laboratory Sciences*

3 Credits of Social Sciences

2 Credits of either French or Spanish

1 Credit of Fine Arts

other opportunities The Academy also offers in-house internships in business marketing and education for interested students.

Qualifying students may also opt to take college level courses at local colleges or at Middlesex Community College via the Dual Enrollment program. Virtual High School (VHS) classes are offered to qualifying students for elective and AP courses not included in core curriculum.

We are a member of the Notre Dame Virtual School for further online elective opportunities.

GPAs are earned using the quality point system as listed below:

Honors and AP level courses are teacher recommended, not self-selected. Juniors are limited to three AP courses. While there is no limit on APs for seniors, all students are encouraged to thoughtfully consider their course schedule, as to not overload.

About nda • The Academy maintained live, virtual instruction throughout the spring 2020.

Classroom assessment and assignments continued and the school’s grading scale was maintained. In fall of 2020 and spring of 2021, the Academy implemented full, in-person learning with hybrid and remote options available depending on student and family circumstances.

• Since 2018 seniors earned nearly $30 million in 4-year renewable merit scholarships.

Clubs, Activities and Organizations for Students: The Academy offers students a wide variety of clubs, activities and athletics to participate in. Student Leadership Development is an integral part of the student experience, with opportunities for student government, class officers, and student ambassadors and mentors.

We have a thriving music and theatre program with two productions each year. Over half of our Upper School students participate in one or more sports, with eleven JV/Varsity sports to choose from along with the NDA Dance team.

Some of our more popular clubs this year are Model UN, The Muse Arts, Quiz Bowl, Science Club, and Campus Ministry.

We offer the opportunity for induction into 4 honor societies (National Honor, Spanish Honor, French Honor and National Art Honor).

We offer two travel opportunities for students: a service trip in the spring/summer and an international educational trip every February.
