ORGANIZATIONAL CHART
The National Dental Association is a member-driven organization whose strength comes from the engagement and leadership of its members.
Governance begins with our component (local) and constituent (state) societies, which elect delegates to represent their members in the House of Delegates—the legislative body of the Association responsible for setting policy, adopting the budget, and electing national officers.
Members interested in shaping the future of the NDA are encouraged to become delegates through their local or state society and to consider serving as a Trustee, representing one of the Association’s six districts on the Board of Trustees, which oversees the organization between House sessions.
Whether you are a new member or a longtime leader, one of the best ways to get involved is by joining an NDA committee. Our committees drive the work of the Association in areas ranging from membership, public health, legislation, and education to ethics, awards, and leadership development. We encourage every member to find a committee that aligns with their interests and expertise and take an active role in advancing the mission of the NDA.

Responsible for recording attendance and activities during House meetings. This committee also conducts hearings on conflicts regarding delegate certifications.
Acts as an investigative body for dental education at all levels—predental, undergraduate, and postgraduate. This committee informs members about opportunities for internships, residencies, and specialty organizations,
Focuses on developing and recommending policies and programs to improve public dental health. This committee also assists component societies and agencies in enhancing community oral health programs.
Considers and addresses insurance-related issues for the protection of association members. This committee also advises the Board of Trustees on plans aligned with policies adopted by the House of Delegates.
Facilitates cooperation with dentists and dental organizations domestically and abroad to exchange dental knowledge and information in alignment with House policies.
Investigates and evaluates applicants for loans from the association’s special fund, designed to support deserving students at the nation’s dental colleges.
Ensures that the organization adheres to the highest ethical standards in all its activities and decision-making processes.
Builds strategic collaborations to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in dental education, leadership, research, and patient care. This committee strives to close disparities affecting Black, Latinx, and American Indian communities,

Biography
Dr. Lenise Yarber spent her childhood in beautiful Anchorage, Alaska and attended high school in Federal Way, Washington. After high school she attended Los Angeles Southwest College, where she co-founded The Science Club and was an elected member of the ASB Executive Board. While attending LASC she competed her Associate in Science Degree in Biology received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene from the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California (USC) in 2002. She continued her education in dentistry at the USC School of Dentistry, where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. During her studies she was the recipient of the Doctors Out To Care Award, the USC Century Award for Academic Achievement, the American Dental Hygiene Association Award for Commitment & Service and the Colgate-Palmolive Outstanding Leadership Award.
Upon graduation she was appointed a position as a member of the USC School of Dentistry faculty and served as a liaison for the recruitment and retention of underserved students into the profession of dentistry. With a passion for the oral health care needs of children, Dr. Yarber completed an Advance Pediatric Dental Residency at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine’s Harlem Hospital based program in New York, where she received the Harlem Hospital New York City Health and Hospital Corporation Women In History Award for Outstanding Commitment to Patient Care.
With commitment and enthusiasm for outreach and service, Dr. Yarber is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated Los Angeles South Bay Alumnae Chapter providing service to her local community with volunteer health fairs, arts & letters events, and scholarship fundraising. As a member of The Links, Inglewood Pacific Chapter Incorporated she dedicates herself to volunteering with health & human services and the youth. Both organizations have established history of promoting social and civic engagement
Dr. Yarber has shown dedication to organized dentistry, actively serving as a delegate to the American Dental Association’s House of Delegates, and the California Dental Association as a member of the Minority Dentists’ Forum. She has been recognized as a Fellow by the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists, both of which are highly respected organizations in the dental community. Her long-standing passion since graduating dental school, where she then immediately served as a delegate in the House of Delegates, has been the National Dental Association, a professional organization focused on advancing the dental health and equity of people of color. She has served as the NDA District IV Trustee, Membership Committee Chair and Assistant Treasurer. Her work in organized dentistry and volunteer service organizations have contributed immensely towards promoting access to affordable dental care, improving oral health education, and advocating for the needs of underserved populations.
Candidate Statement
As President-Elect, I am committed to strengthening our organization by fostering collaboration, communication, and engagement across all National Dental Association Districts and Local Components. I will work closely with component dental societies to support, monitor, and encourage membership activities that promote recruitment, retention, and active participation. By enhancing communication and sharing best practices among our local, state, and national leaders, we can build a stronger and more unified organization that delivers value to every member.
A key priority of my leadership will be a focus on expanding access to oral health services and supporting communitybased health initiatives. I will assist in developing resources and programs that address oral health disparities, promote preventive care, and strengthen community outreach efforts. Through strategic partnerships and innovative programming, we can increase our impact and improve the oral and overall health of the communities we serve.
As President-Elect I will also be dedicated to advancing scientific excellence within our organization. I will support studies and initiatives that enhance our scientific sessions and establish a speakers bureau comprised of talented NDA members who can share their expertise nationally. In addition, I will advocate for the development and promotion of a scientific journal that highlights the research, scholarship, and clinical contributions of our members.
Finally, I will work closely with SNDA leadership and the New Dentist Committee to create a formal transition program that supports students as they enter the profession. This initiative will include mentorship, leadership development, and a Business of Dentistry Certification program to equip emerging dentists with the skills necessary for long-term professional success.
Together, we will strengthen membership, elevate professional development, and advance oral health equity for the communities we serve.
Biography
Dr. Reginald Salter is an accomplished educator, administrator, experienced private practice owner and consultant, and respected leader in organized dentistry. He is an Associate Professor at the Howard University College of Dentistry and also serves as Director for Admissions and Student Programs. Dr. Salter has dedicated his career to advancing dental education, leadership development, workforce diversity, and equitable access to oral healthcare.
Internationally, he is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and has led global outreach missions to Jamaica for more than a decade, providing care and mentorship opportunities for U.S. and Jamaican students while advancing service-learning initiatives and international oral health engagement. He has advised colleagues and helped to manage the establishment of relationships for missions in various countries globally.
Nationally, Dr. Salter serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the National Dental Association and previously served as Treasurer of the Association. In these leadership roles, he has helped guide strategic planning initiatives, strengthen financial stewardship, expand corporate partnerships, and support membership growth and organizational sustainability. He has also played an active role in leadership development efforts across the NDA, including governance education and initiatives associated with the Eddie G. Smith Leadership Institute. Dr. Salter additionally collaborates with the Student National Dental Association National Board and has mentored USNDA chapters across the country. Through annual partnerships with Remote Area Medical, Mission of Mercy, and Piedmont Smiles, he remains actively engaged in national community outreach initiatives.
Locally, he serves as Chair of the Metro Washington Section of the American College of Dentists and as faculty advisor for Howard University’s SNDA chapter, where he mentors future leaders in organized dentistry, governance, advocacy, and service.
He is proudly Georgian born, an alumnus of Xavier University of La, and Howard University College of Dentistry. He holds an MBA in healthcare administration and a PhD in higher education leadership. He is a member of the Maryland Dental Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, Founder of Delta Mu Chi Fraternity for men in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy, and is a Life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He currently resides in Waldorf, MD. A former officer in the United States Navy Dental Corps, Dr. Salter remains committed to collaborative leadership, strategic vision, and advancing the mission of organized dentistry.

Steady Leadership. Strategic Vision. Stronger NDA.
For more than a decade, I have remained committed to advancing the mission, growth, and sustainability of the National Dental Association through servant leadership, strategic collaboration, and organizational accountability. Having served as Treasurer and currently as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, I have worked alongside dedicated leaders across our organization during periods of both opportunity and challenge.
If elected, I will work alongside the President and Executive Leadership Team to strengthen membership engagement, organizational governance, strategic partnerships, and long-term sustainability. I remain deeply committed to ensuring continued NDA growth through strong corporate, academic, and community partnerships.
Our By-Laws charges the Vice President to be prepared to fill in when there is a vacancy with the President or President. My leadership experiences, in and outside of NDA, have strengthened my understanding of the operational, financial, and strategic needs of the NDA I am prepared to serve effectively on day 1.
The By-Laws further tasks the Vice President with strengthening the leadership pipeline between the NDA and the Student National Dental Association. As faculty advisor for the Howard University SNDA chapter, I have mentored student leaders committed to service, advocacy, and organized dentistry. I have also collaborated with the SNDA National Board and supported the establishment and mentorship of undergraduate USNDA chapters at colleges and universities across the country. My role as a dental school Admissions Director uniquely positions me to support student leadership development, governance education, and pathways into organized dentistry that directly benefit both SNDA and USNDA initiatives.
As Vice President, I will bring experienced leadership, strategic vision, and a steadfast commitment to strengthening the NDA’s national influence, developing future leaders, and positioning our organization for continued growth and impact.
Biography
Dr. Brown is the owner of Brown Dental Group, a modern dental practice focused on delivering patient-centered, highquality care with an emphasis on innovation, accessibility, and community impact. In addition to leading his practice, he serves as the current Assistant Treasurer of the National Dental Association, supporting the organization’s mission to advance oral health equity and increase representation within the dental profession.
As a practicing dentist and entrepreneur, Dr. Brown combines clinical excellence with strategic leadership, bringing experience in public health operations, dental staffing, and healthcare business development. He is passionate about mentoring future dental professionals, and building sustainable models for independent dentistry.
Candidate Statement
As the current Assistant Treasurer of the National Dental Association, I have had the opportunity to support the organization’s financial operations while gaining a deeper understanding of the responsibilities and long-term goals of NDA leadership. As Treasurer, I hope to continue building on that experience by helping strengthen the organization’s financial stability, transparency, and future growth.
As a practicing dentist and business owner, I understand the importance of responsible budgeting, strategic planning, and financial accountability. I hope to bring those skills to the role by supporting sustainable growth, identifying new opportunities for partnerships and revenue development, and ensuring the NDA’s resources continue to support its mission and members effectively.
I also hope to support initiatives that increase engagement among students, young dentists, and future leaders within the NDA. Investing in the next generation is essential to the continued success and impact of our organization.
Most importantly, I want to be part of a collaborative leadership team focused on service, advocacy, and progress. The NDA continues to play an important role in advancing oral health equity and supporting Black dentists nationwide, and I would be honored to help strengthen the organization’s future as Treasurer.
Biography
Originally from Virginia Beach, Dr. Chanelle Roberts earned her Bachelor’s in Biology from Hampton University, a Master’s in Biomedical Science from Barry University and attended dental school at the University of Missouri - Kansas City.
While at UMKC, Dr. Roberts was actively involved in mentorship, leadership, and service. She served as Vice President of SNDA, Regional Coordinator for national SNDA, and helped lead the annual MLK Day of Service, delivering thousands of dental kits to the community. She was a founding member of her school’s minority mentorship pipeline program before graduating in 2020.
Dr. Roberts now practices in Washington, DC at a historic practice serving the community. In
2024, she was appointed to the DC Board of Dentistry, where she chairs the Credentialing and Auditing Subcommittee and helps regulate the profession. She also serves as an Examiner with the American Board of Dental Examiners, administering the ADEX licensure exam to dental students nationwide.
An active member of the NDA, Dr. Roberts currently serves as Co-Chair of both the New Dentist Committee and the 40 Under 40 Gala Committee. She remains committed to mentorship, regularly supporting predental and minority dental students while continuing to serve her community through leadership, advocacy, and service.

The National Dental Association has played a pivotal role in my professional journey, from my early involvement in SNDA leadership to my current service as Co-Chair of the New Dentist Committee and the 40 Under 40 Gala Committee. Through these experiences, I have seen firsthand the power of our organization to connect, develop, and elevate Black dentists across every stage of their careers.
As Secretary, I hope to strengthen communication, transparency, and member engagement throughout the Association. Effective leadership begins with ensuring that members are informed, connected, and empowered to participate in the work of the NDA. I am committed to maintaining accurate records, improving organizational continuity, and helping preserve the history and institutional knowledge that guide our future.
I also believe we must continue creating pathways for emerging leaders. Throughout my career, mentorship has been both a personal passion and a professional responsibility. I hope to expand opportunities for students, new dentists, and early-career professionals to become actively involved in organized dentistry and to see themselves reflected in the leadership of our Association.
My experiences as a practicing dentist, ADEX examiner, and member of the DC Board of Dentistry have reinforced the importance of accountability, professionalism, and service. I would be honored to bring those same values to the office of Secretary and work alongside our leadership to advance the mission of the National Dental Association.

Biography
Dr. Jerrell Atwater is dedicated to serving his community through exceptional patient care and education, with experience providing comprehensive dental services throughout the Washington, D.C., and Atlanta metropolitan areas. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Howard University College of Dentistry. Known for his advanced clinical expertise, Dr. Atwater provides a wide range of dental treatments, including nonsurgical root canal therapy, extractions, removable and fixed prosthetics, implant dentistry, and clear aligner therapy. He is committed to delivering high-quality, judgment-free care and takes a patient-centered approach to every individual he treats. During his graduation, Dr. Atwater received honors and was nominated by administration and faculty, the highly prestigious International College of Dentists Award. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Atwater enjoys traveling, exploring new baking and cooking recipes, and caring for his growing collection of plants.

My name is Dr. Jerrell Atwater, and I am currently in my first year of private practice as a General Dentist in the Atlanta metropolitan area. I am honored to be a candidate for the position of Assistant Secretary. My passion for serving underrepresented communities and supporting organizations such as the National Dental Association has been a lifelong commitment.
During my time at Howard University College of Dentistry, I was fortunate to serve in several leadership roles, including Class President during my first two years of dental school, National Co-Membership at Large Chair for the Student National Dental Association, admissions interviewer, and Clinical Director. These experiences allowed me to develop strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills while advocating for my peers and contributing to the success of the institution. My commitment to service extends beyond leadership positions. Throughout dental school, I participated in multiple Remote Area Medical (RAM) Clinics in Virginia and Maryland, community impression days, and oral health fairs that provided care and education to underserved populations.
My involvement in organized dentistry has continued into my professional career. As a new dentist, I currently serve as the Mentorship Chair for the Georgia Dental Society. I have also organized several community outreach events, including a local cookout, and volunteered at area schools to educate students about the importance of oral health.
Through my leadership experience and participation in numerous dental conferences and professional organizations, I have gained a strong understanding of formal governance processes, including meetings, motions, voting procedures, and recordkeeping. I am highly detail-oriented, dependable, and committed to maintaining accurate documentation that supports transparency and organizational success.My dedication to service and to the mission of the National Dental Association reflects my enthusiasm for this position. I believe my leadership experience, organizational skills, and commitment to our profession make me a strong candidate for Assistant Secretary. Truvella Reese, DMD, FICD, is a nationally recognized dentist, speaker, entrepreneur, and humanitarian dedicated to transforming lives through healthcare, education, and service. As Chief Clinical Officer of Las Vegas Dental Management, she leads clinical excellence initiatives, mentorship programs, and strategic growth efforts focused on elevating patient care and supporting providers across multiple practices.
With nearly two decades in dentistry, Dr. Reese is the owner of Crowne Dental in Nevada, where she has built a reputation for compassionate, patient-centered care and a commitment to whole-person wellness. She is also the founder of “Reasons to Smile,” a nonprofit organization that restores smiles for survivors of human trafficking and underserved individuals through pro bono dental care and advocacy.
Dr. Reese serves as Chair of Oral Healthcare for Physicians Against the Trafficking of Humans. She also the President of the City of Lights Dental Society. Her leadership and service have earned her numerous honors, including Humanitarian of the Year, Nevada Trailblazer, National Philanthropic Mother of the Year, and recognition as one of the most influential people in dentistry.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Reese is a devoted wife, mother of three, mentor, and passionate advocate for community impact and servant leadership.
Candidate Statement
Serving as Assistant Secretary of the National Dental Association is an opportunity for me to give back to an organization that has poured so much into our profession and our communities. While the role comes with important administrative responsibilities, I see it as much more than taking notes and maintaining records. I see it as helping preserve the history of our organization while helping shape its future.
One of my goals is to increase engagement and communication among our members. There are so many talented dentists, students, specialists, and leaders within the NDA, and I want to help ensure their voices, ideas, and accomplishments are highlighted and shared. I plan to partner with other dental organizations to help increase NDA presence and awareness. Strong organizations are built on connection, and I hope to help strengthen those connections.
As the founder of the SNDA chapter at UNLV School of Dental Medicine in 2004, I champion mentorship and leadership development. As someone who has benefited from the guidance of others throughout my career, I understand the importance of creating pathways for the next generation. I would love to help young dentists and dental students find opportunities to learn, grow, and lead.
Most importantly, I want my service to reflect the values that brought me to dentistry in the first place; integrity, service, and community. If my time as Assistant Secretary helps make the organization stronger, more connected, and better positioned to serve future generations, I will consider it time well spent.

Dr. Joshua Tyson is a dentist with 10 years of experience in public health and private practice. A native of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College, a Master of Public Health from Rutgers University, and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He currently practices in Virginia, providing comprehensive dental care to his community.
An active leader in organized dentistry, Dr. Tyson serves as Speaker of the House for the National Dental Association and previously represented District 1 on its Board of Trustees. He also chaired the New Dentist Committee and helped expand the association’s social media presence and engagement. Dr. Tyson is a Fellow of both the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists.

I am honored to be considered to continue serving as Speaker of the House and remain deeply committed to advancing the mission and vision of the National Dental Association (NDA). If elected, I will continue working to ensure that the House of Delegates operates with integrity, transparency, and adherence to the bylaws and constitution that guide our organization. Upholding these principles is essential to maintaining effective governance, fostering trust among our members, and supporting the continued growth and success of the NDA.
A key priority of mine is increasing engagement among new graduates and dentists within their first ten years of practice. The future strength of our organization depends on attracting, developing, and empowering the next generation of members and leaders. As Speaker, I will encourage greater participation in the House of Delegates and its committees, helping emerging dental professionals identify meaningful opportunities for service, leadership development, and professional growth within the NDA. By creating pathways for involvement early in their careers, we can cultivate a strong pipeline of future leaders who are invested in the success of our organization.
I also look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with our committees and leadership to expand the NDA’s reach and impact throughout the dental community. By supporting committee initiatives, fostering collaboration, and encouraging broader member involvement, we can strengthen our collective voice and further advance the goals of the Association.
Finally, I believe effective leadership includes preparing the next generation to lead. Biography
Dr. Nelson graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in chemistry and is a 2008 graduate Howard University college of Dentistry. Dr. Nelson currently is in practice dentistry in Miami, Florida.
Dr. Nelson is the current president of the Miami-Dade County Dental Society where he has been a member since 2009.
Dr. Nelson is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.. He also enjoys very much being involved in the local community in South Florida. Dr. Nelson was born in Montreal, Canada and has been a Miami resident since his teenage years.

My name is Dr. Nelson, and I am a dentist and practice owner based in Miami, Florida. I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of South Florida and received my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Howard University College of Dentistry in 2008.
After completing dental school, I returned to Miami, where I have practiced dentistry and owned my private practice for nearly 15 years. My professional focus includes patient care, practice management, and community service.
I have been a member of the National Dental Association (NDA) since 2009. Over the years, I have been actively involved in organized dentistry, serving in the House of Delegates for ten years and as Vice Speaker of the House for the past two years. I’m the current president of the Miami-Dade County Dental Society.
Through my practice and professional involvement, I remain committed to serving my patients, supporting the dental profession, and contributing to my local community.
