Iconic Notre Dame Cathedral catches fire On Monday, April 15, the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral constructed in the 12th century was severely damaged by a fire that began in the wooden roof of the cathedral. As many as 500 firefighters were combating the fire during its height. The spire, which has been part of the building since the mid-1800s, was toppled during the height of the fire. The fire’s cause is currently unknown, but the Paris prosecutor’s office said that dozens of witnesses have and will be questioned.

Many of the art pieces and relics have been saved from the fire, but the roof of the cathedral has been destroyed.

321 Coffee provides opportunity, encouragement, pg. 8

North Carolina pitmaster Sam Jones was handcuffed by Florida police near an Orlando airport, mistaken for a local car thief. Jones is one of the most famous pitmasters in the U.S. and owns an acclaimed restaurant, Sam Jones BBQ. Jones told The News & Observer that the encounter was “scary as hell” and that he was detained without explanation. Employees at Priceless Car Rental believed Jones looked like a suspected car thief that had stolen two cars.

Students deliberate conduct violations on campus Abbie Davies-Cutting Correspondent

For NC State students, the Student Code of Conduct acts as the governing document of the explicit rules student must follow while on campus. The document outlines all possible violations along with sanctions that display consequences that will likely occur if a student is found responsible. For most students at NC State, this is where their knowledge of the code concludes; however, for the roughly 20 active members serving on NC State’s Student Conduct Board, this document is so much more.

Students who serve on the board have the unique opportunity to hear, deliberate and rule on real cases that pass through the conduct office that could result in suspension or expulsion from the UNC System. Jodi Svetaketu, a third-year studying Spanish and former chief justice, explained how the Student Conduct Board operates.

“If a student is accused of a violation, anything that’s outlined in the Student Code of Conduct, they have the option of picking a conduct board hearing, which is where they present their case,” Svetaketu said. “We get to decide based on the evidence and statements we hear from the student and the other party whether they are responsible or not responsible, and

if they are responsible, we decide what sanctions should go with that.”

If a student decides to forgo an administrative hearing and instead be heard by the Student Board of Conduct, they can expect one of two things, depending on whether their violation is academic or non-academic. Kiera Jonson, a fourthyear studying microbiology and student body chief justice, discussed the similarities and differences between each type of

case.

“Both hearings are comprised of four board members and the presiding officer, who is generally the student chief justice, but you could also just have a trained presiding officer,” Jonson said. “In academic cases, you would have two student conduct board members and two faculty conduct members, and for non-academic we will have four student conduct board members and the presiding officer.”

The board’s primary responsibility during hearings is to determine if a violation occurred, determine who is responsible and decide appropriate sanctions for that violation.

“We ask questions that are pertinent to the specific instance at hand, so we just want to find out did a violation occur and did that student commit that violation,” Jonson said. “After fact finding, we will deliberate and determine responsibility, and then they will come back and do sanctioning if they are found responsible.”

Both Svetaketu and Jonson maintain that offering the option of a student-led “jury of peers” sends a powerful message to students who violate the code and to the NC State community as a whole.

“Since we’re not faculty, we’re not administration or anything, we’re students just like them, it kind of helps us to see their side, especially when questioning,” Svetaketu said. “We can see the importance of being unbiased.”

Jonson said she is proud of the impact she has been able to make on her community through serving on the Student Conduct Board.

“I think it’s important that you have that support from the community to say, ‘We are students and we think the code is important,’ and so we are going to do our part to make sure it’s being applied fairly,” Jonson said.

ASG advocates for students statewide Will Thornhill Correspondent

The UNC Association of Student Governments (ASG) is an organization that has been representing college students in the state of North Carolina for 48 years. It represents all 17 UNC System campuses across North Carolina.

The role of the ASG president is to be the voice for college students at the UNC Board of Governors. The newly elected president for the 2019-2020 school year is Adam Schmidt, a third-year studying civil engineering and former NC State Student Senate president.

“There is definitely an advocacy piece, because NC State is a part of the UNC

System, and so there are policies set at the UNC System level,” Schmidt said. “Recommendations from the NC State campus sometimes have to go up to the Board of Governors level; things like student fees and tuition increase recommendations.”

Schmidt was sworn in at the Association of Student Governments business meeting on April 13 at North Carolina Central University.

“As the president of the Association of

Student Governments, I’ll be the student member of the UNC Board of Governors,” Schmidt said. “I will work a lot with student body presidents to push out information that is happening at the Board of Governors level and listen to issues that are occurring on their campuses.”

The ASG advisor is Kim Mitchell, who works at the UNC System office and acts as a leader to help the students in ASG in different roles.

“The key word is ‘help’ them run the organization,” Mitchell said. “I deal with a lot of logistics, as far as helping organize the meetings and the logistics of the students being able to travel. On the back end, I do all of the paperwork in order to get the students reimbursed.”

As the semester nears, students prepare for exams, library rooms are frantically reserved and the stress begins to build.

To combat these stressful days, NC State’s University Activities Board (UAB) will host the annual LDOC Festival and Wolfstock on Stafford Commons and Wolf Plaza on Friday, April 26.

The LDOC Festival, which is hosted by the UAB Leisure and Recreation Committee, takes place throughout the day, and in the night it transitions into the Wolfstock concert, which is hosted by the Concerts and Entertainment Committee.

The LDOC Festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wolfstock will begin at 6:30 p.m. with an opening performance from DJ Trellz followed by Walk the Moon, who will come on at 8:30 p.m. as the headliner.

“The legislation that was brought up was everything from transgender housing to like this past meeting, there was a piece of legislation brought from Western Carolina that was looking at the need to have psychiatrists available to students on campus,” Mitchell said.

ASG can also act as a resource for students that are seeking funding for different projects, as they can request financial grants of up to $3,000 on their website.

Students are likely to receive funding if their projects coincide with one of ASG’s five missions: campus innovation, diversity initiatives, voter mobilization, sustainability projects or UNC System advocacy.

“UAB gets all of its money from student fees,” Murphy said. “We have a budget that allots a certain amount of money to the concert and our other events. Basically, the money is split up between the committees and the different events throughout the whole year. We have a slightly larger budget just because of the concerts and things that have happened this year, so we have a bigger artist than we usually have.”

One thing Murphy highlighted about Wolfstock was its free admission for NC State students.

“It is free for everyone, which I think is something really awesome that UAB does because it is accessible to anyone and no one has to pay to come,” Murphy said. “[Wolfstock] really just brings the NC State community together, which is what we always hope for through our events.”

According to UAB Leisure and Recreation Chair Anna Long, a third-year studying communication, there will be various food trucks located on Wolf Plaza monthly business meetings.

“There’s several thousand dollars the association gives out to students who submit grant requests from across the system, and NC State has submitted a number this year,’’ Schmidt said. “They range from helping student groups put on their events to making capital improvements on campus to kind of everything in between.”

Additionally, an important initiative for ASG has been voter mobilization. They not only encourage students to vote in local and national elections, but to be involved and informed in politics that affect them as college students and citizens in the community.

On their website, ASG has links that allow students to register to vote and list students’ nearest polling locations.

ASG has provided opportunities for college students to drive initiatives on campuses throughout N.C. and will continue to live out its mission as a studentled organization.

Engineering Enhancement Fee: driving the college’s success Jean Brannum Correspondent

Within the university’s $88 million in revenue from student fees, there are fees that are accumulated by College of Engineering students that total $1,500 per student and go toward programs that create engineering-specific opportunities.

The COE Program Enhancement Fee is necessary for making NC State a toptier engineering school, according to the dean of the College of Engineering, Louis Martin-Vega.

Martin-Vega clarified that the fee is significantly more affordable, than what is demanded from students at other esteemed engineering schools.

“There’s what you get in the classroom, and then there’s all the other things that you can get across the university in terms of Study Abroad, internships, co-ops, research in labs and things like that.”

Martin-Vega said. “But we also saw that some of our peer institutions had fees that we didn’t want to go there. If you’re an engineering student at the University of Illinois, in addition to paying an in-state tuition that is probably two and a half [times] higher than ours, you’re going to pay a $6,000 fee. We’re not going to go there either.”

Martin-Vega added that NC State compares their engineering school to other top engineering schools such as Purdue, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech and Penn State.

Martin-Vega also said that the fee does go back to the students through research jobs on campus and provides a better postgraduate job outlook.

“As a student who didn’t fully understand the fee, it was more something I was concerned about paying,” Brohaugh said.

“I don’t want to pay a fee that I don’t really understand where it goes towards or what it’s used for, anything like that. But after [Martin-Vega explained] that that’s what pays for the research opportunities, the high-impact experiences that really set our engineering program apart from others — those additional experiences outside of class are really what separates the okay

engineering programs from the excellent programs that employers are really striving to hire students for.”

However, Brohaugh said there needs to be more transparency about the fee and that students need to know how to take advantage of the benefits the fee provides.

“One of my goals as a senator in the College of Engineering is to continue to work closely with the dean’s office to make this issue transparent and accessible to students,” Brohaugh said. “A lot of the research opportunities and internships provided by the College of Engineering work to make sure that every engineering

The College of Engineering’s webpage answers common questions about the fee and explains where the funds are allocated. In addition, Student Government hosted a budget town hall with Mike Mullen, vice chancellor and dean of academic and student affairs, and other faculty members to answer questions and concerns about the fee. Martin-Vega agreed that he wanted to help students take advantage of the opportunities the fee allows.

“We try to be responsive, and we’ve made ourselves available to meetings with student organizations,” Martin-Vega said.

“The bottom line is that we’re open. I’ve told [Student Government], ‘Invite us anytime.’ We will certainly accommodate our time to be there.”

While the fee went into effect in fall 2015, Martin-Vega said that he has not seen a decrease in enrollment in the engineering program, and that it does not seem to deter students from attending NC State for engineering.

“We’re very proud of where this college is,” Martin-Vega said. “We are the 12th highest-ranked public college of engineering in the country … We’re proud of that, but the reason we’re proud of it is we think it provides our students a tremendous advantage.”

While most people are aware that not all college students can afford a meal plan, not everyone realizes just how prevalent food insecurity is on college Skye Sarac campuses, specif ica lly at NC State. According correspondent to a survey conducted in October 2017, approximately 14% of our students experienced low or very low food security within the previous month. Even for those who can afford to buy an adequate amount of food, the food they have access to might be lacking in its variety of nutrients or may not be culturally appropriate.

Fortunately, NC State takes measures to address food insecurity, with the Feed the Pack food pantry available to students, as well as the Pack Essentials program, which provides assistance with purchasing food as well as other essentials such as household supplies to students in need. While Pack Essentials is a wonderful program and ref lects NC State’s growing aware-

ness of and willingness to take action on issues related to food insecurity, the program is not always accessible given the unique needs of all students.

Cu r rent ly, t he food pantry is only open from Monday t h rou g h Fr id ay, 12-6 p.m. While this is certainly a convenient t i me for some students, and it’s very helpful that the pantry is open five days a week, these limited hours can create a barrier in accessing the pantry. It’s no secret that the average college student is very busy between jobs, classes, internships and extracurriculars.

Because of this, students often don’t have the time needed to visit the pantry

during the day. The logistics of trying to pick up food and carry it with them, especially if a student has somewhere to go after visiting the food pantry, could pre s e nt a c h a llenge. Also, some students, especially those who are visiting the pantry for the first time, might feel uncomfortable walking in or out of the food pantry in front of people, especially if they are carrying food.

Nontraditional students i n pa rticular might have additional logistical issues with picking up food. About 52% of nontraditional students also live at or near the poverty line. Even for those who do not meet the criteria for being nontraditional students, some students might live

with their parents, live far from campus or otherwise have a difficult time driving to the food pantry.

When a student is trying to juggle multiple responsibilities, it can be very difficult to make it to the food pantry during these limited hours, especially if a student lacks access to transportation or is not able to take time off from work to visit the pantry.

To make the food pantry more accessible to students, Feed the Pack should extend their hours, possibly to include mornings and some evenings. This would allow for students who have obligations during the day or who are unable to conveniently visit the food pantry during the day to pick up food at a time that works for them.

Also, students with families might benefit from evening hours outside of work and school days.

In order to conveniently serve the needs of all students, Feed the Pack should make it easier for all students to access the pantry, which means taking the diverse and flexible schedules of the student body into consideration.

The student debt crisis is a reality at NC State, and it is both terrifying and heartbreaking. The NC State class of 2017 had an average debt per borrower of $24,053, with Joey Rivenbark over half of students being borrowers. Knowing Assistant that the class of 2017 had Opinion Editor about 5,900 graduates, that adds up to over 73 million dollars of debt (more than one country’s entire 2017 GDP). I want to repeat, terrifying and depressing.

These debts are the symptoms of the rising price of higher education, which itself is a result of society disproportion-

ately rewarding those who are able to afford the college experience. Barring any large change in the culture of the United States, it seems economically infeasible to simply lower the price of university without somehow paying for it indirectly. So the real question that needs to be asked is this: What is the best way to treat the symptom, debt?

Enter equity. Any student who has taken a basic business, accounting or economics class has probably heard of equity. For businesses, it takes the form of stocks and shares. But it also has the ability to work for students in the form of an income-share agreement. Investors (usually a university entity) will cover your college expenses if you agree to give

them a certain portion of your future income for a predetermined amount of years.

Simple, less stress, fewer lives ruined, and the potential for a fundamental change in the way life after a degree is treated. Universities facing the debt crisis head-on, like NC State, need to implement income-share agreements immediately.

Usually amounting to around 3-4% for up to 10 years, income-share agreements have a few basic benefits. Perhaps the largest is that if the borrower’s source of income is somehow jeopardized by them being laid off or making less, they don’t have to worry about keeping up with payments, unlike loans. After all, 3% of $0 is

still $0. So if alumni cannot immediately find a job with their degree, their life is not going to crumble around them.

Of course, there is a caveat to this. Borrowers are on the hook for the full 10 years, and if they are unemployed for a portion of that, the clock stops. But this safeguard is far preferable to ruining someone’s credit score.

With income sharing, universities also have to believe in the value of an education. The argument that degrees are overrated and job markets are oversaturated is one that has few consequences on the actual educator. NC State doesn’t need to care what happens to us after we get

a degree.

In a system like this, however, institutions have a direct and vested interest in the success of alumni and would want to make sure they receive high-quality educations that prepare them for the workforce, rather than just “surviving.”

There is even a possibility that once a university has invested in a student, they could work with that student to help increase the probability they are hired and paid well. Alumni would then be set up well even after the agreement is over due to resume building and their current positions. Actions like these are logically sound and mutually beneficial, so it is reasonable to hope that they are a possible outcome.

Income-share agreements are spreading, with colleges all over the country launching their own programs. Even other engineering universities like Pur-

due, whose average debt per borrower was close to ours in 2017, offer ISAs. But NC State cannot do this without a few ground rules. The first is that only the university should be a student’s investor.

Until this practice is more widely used, it needs to take place in the most controlled environment to ensure students are not preyed on due to a lack of knowledge.

This also means that students need to be aware of what they are signing, which considering that this type of agreement is largely unheard of has the potential to be a problem. Lastly, the autonomy of alumni cannot be sacrificed. If a graduate gets a degree but wants to do something unrelated, NC State cannot have “voting rights” over them.

There really is nothing stopping NC State from adopting this within the next year. In fact, the merits of income-share agreements make me hope that NC State adopts a system like Purdue’s soon. Simply offering this option to students in need is a choice that they deserve, and it could go a long way for the future graduates of NC State.

321 Coffee provides opportunity, encouragement Bryan Cambra Staff Writer

People with intellectual and developmental disorders (IDD) are heavily stigmatized in contemporary society, especially within the workforce. However, one group of students and volunteers seeks to change this standard with a new approach: a cup of coffee.

321 Coffee is a volunteer-led coffee shop located at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh. The organization was founded by Lindsay Wrege, current CEO of 321 and a third-year studying business administration. The “321” in the business’ title relates to Down syndrome being a third copy of the 21st chromosome, as well as the orga-

Wrege has worked with peers who’ve had various forms of IDD since she was young, and these interactions have helped her develop a sense of empathy and understanding towards their conditions.

ing Wrege’s first semester at NC State. She and several of her peers joined forces with a goal of somehow making the world easier for people with IDD. “The first [step] was just deciding I wanted to do it,” Wrege said. “It had always been an idea of mine that I thought would have been really cool, but saying it and having other students tell me ‘yes, let’s make it happen!’ is truly where it all started.”

From there, Wrege and several other students started working on making that dream a reality: becoming a student organization, designing a logo and website and starting a GoFundMe. Their efforts earned them plenty of publicity at the local level, even garnering an interview with ABC11.

With their publicity, more people from NC State and around Raleigh joined the 321 team. Among them was Nick Wirtz, a fourth-year studying business administration and the chief operations officer

of 321 Coffee.

Wirtz joined the team because he hadn’t done any volunteer work with people who have IDD since high school, and Wrege gave him a perfect opportunity to get back into the field.

“I met [Wrege] in class and she was talking about starting up a coffee shop for ind iv idua ls with IDD,” Wirtz s a id . “It w a sn’t until that second semester when I heard her speaking so passionately about it and I started thinking back to high school when I served.”

Menu items at 321 have a theme of simple, yet delicious. Coffee is available in hot or cold brews, as well as tea and hot chocolate. Lattes are the most recent additions to the menu, and caramel, pumpkin spice and French vanilla f lavors can be added. Baked goods are available as well.

leigh. Soon, people who had tried the coffee and wanted more started asking the volunteers about establishing a regular location and schedule.

“Someone recommended the State Farmers Market and we looked into it,” said Wrege. “We started with just Saturdays because we didn’t have a lot of staff or availability. Saturday is the most popular day, so it made sense.”

While it did provide some great scenery, this made the staff vulnerable to the weather, and openings had to be canceled many times due to rain or extreme temperatures. However, as of late March 2019, 321 Coffee has secured a spot in the Market Shoppes of the State Farmers’ Market.

“When you give someone that type of joy, you get so much from it,” Wirtz said.

“It’s not the primary reason we do this, but just knowing we can impact someone that way is phenomenal.”

As the team grows, Wrege and Wirtz plan to expand their services beyond 321 Coffee and look to establish other locations, providing different food and employment opportunities.

According to Wrege, the most important part about 321 is the opportunities it creates for people to learn from and interact with adults with IDD. “What sets us apart from other coffee shops is the experience you get from ordering at 321,” Wrege said. “It’s not about making the fanciest drink, or how fast you can get it and leave. It’s about the conversations you have with the volunteers here who have IDD and seeing the sense of pride they have in their work.”

Both the NC State women’s and men’s golf teams will be in competition at the ACC Championships this week, with both tournaments starting Thursday and wrapping up Saturday.

T h e Wo l f p a c k women will head to Sedgefield Countr y Club in Greensboro, while t he men w i l l be competing at the Old Nor t h State Club in New London.

T he NC S t at e women’s team will enter the 12-team event as the nine seed, coming off of an eighth-place finish at last year’s championships. The Wolfpack will kick off competition Thursday morning, where it will be paired with seventh-seeded UNC-Chapel Hill and eighth-seeded Louisville.

The Pack has three set golfers in its tournament rotation, with three others fighting for the final two spots at ACCs. Seniors India Clyburn and Laura Kowohl will lead the way for the Pack, as the two have been NC State’s most consistent,

reliable golfers throughout the year.

Kowohl has a team-best stroke average of 74.13 and is coming off her best finish of the season at the Bryan National Collegiate, which finished back on March 31. Kowohl tied for 12th with a threeround score of 1 over pa r at t hat event, and heads into ACCs playi ng st rong gol f.

She has experience at the conference t ou r n a m e nt , a s she finished 12th at ACCs last year with a 3 over par.

Clyburn is averaging an 18-hole score of 74.78 this year, and has two top-10 finishes to her name. Clyburn placed eighth at the Bryan National Collegiate with a 1 under par. At last year’s ACC Championships, Clyburn placed 23rd.

The Wolfpack’s other consistent starter is junior Mim Sangkapong, who is averaging a 75.91 this year. Like Clyburn and Kowohl, Sangkapong’s best finish came at the Bryan National Collegiate, where she finished 18th. For Sangkapong, this week will mark her first trip to ACCs. The other two spots for the Pack women will be filled by either freshman Lea

Wolfpack travels to Wake for key ACC series Will Thornhill Correspondent

NC State baseball will head to the Triad for a pivotal three-game ACC series against Wake Forest starting Thursday.

Going into this game, the Wolfpack (308, 12-6 ACC) is in second place in the ACC Atlantic, trailing Louisville by one run after getting swept in Raleigh by the Cardinals last weekend. The Demon Deacons (21-16, 9-9 ACC) are currently sitting in fifth place in the ACC Atlantic and are coming off two series wins against Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh.

The Wolfpack ended its five-game losing streak Tuesday night against UNC-Wilmington, as the NC State bats exploded for 14 runs. Unfortunately, the win may have come at a cost.

In the second inning, junior shortstop Will Wilson hit a two-run home run, but as he was rounding first base he collided with UNC-Wilmington’s first baseman and was unable to round the bases. He was forced out of the game and his status for this weekend is unknown.

Wilson is NC State’s second-leading hitter with a .340 batting average and is the team leader in home runs with 13. If Wilson is unable to go this weekend, look for freshman Vojetch Mensik to move to shortstop

from third base, sophomore David Vazquez to move from second base to third base and sophomore J.T. Jarrett to be inserted in the starting lineup to play second base.

Senior first baseman Evan Edwards, sophomore catcher Patrick Bailey and freshman center fielder Tyler McDonough will all look to stay hot, especially if Wilson is unable to go. Edwards leads the team in batting average at .348 and in RBIs at 48. Bailey, the powerful switch-hitter, is currently batting .336 and leads the team in doubles with 14.

McDonough, also a switch-hitter, has been a great addition to the Wolfpack this season, batting .333 on the season for the Wolfpack.

The NC State pitching staff allowed a total of 34 runs in their three-game set with Louisville last weekend and will look for junior Jason Parker, who has been NC State’s number one weekend starter all year, to bounce back from a rough start last weekend. In his worst start of the season, Parker allowed 10 earned runs on 13 hits in five innings of work.

Sophomore Reid Johnston, who has established himself as the number two starter for NC State, also will be looking to bounce back from a rough weekend. In game two of the doubleheader last weekend, Johnston only made it through 3.1 innings while giving up nine earned runs on ten hits.

was early deficits; the Wolfpack at one point trailed by eight runs in game one and game two of the series against Louisville. If the Wolfpack can get good performances from its starting pitchers, look for the Wolfpack offense to feed off that energy and score plenty of runs off the Wake Forest pitchers which have a team ERA of 5.88.

The Demon Deacons will be lead by Patrick Frick, who holds the second-highest batting average in the ACC at .391. Fellow teammates Bobby Seymour and Chris Lanzilli own averages at .373 and .344, respectively. It will be big for the NC State pitchers if they can keep

these three from having productive weekends, as they account for 132 RBIs as a trio.

Colin Peluse has been the leading pitcher for Wake Forest this season, posting a 5.82 ERA in 51 innings pitched. Look for Peluse, Morgan McSweeney and Jared Shuster to all pitch significant innings this weekend for the Demon Deacons.

The three-game series will begin Thursday night at 6 p.m. at David F. Couch Ballpark in Winston-Salem, with game two Friday night at 6 p.m. and game three at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Some of the teams invited to the UVA Challenge are West Virginia, Wake Forest, VCU, Pitt, Michigan State and Ohio State.

Senior Javonne Antoine and sophomore Michelle Cobb are signed up for the women’s long jump at the UVA Challenge.

In the last meet at the Tennessee Relays, Antoine and Cobb placed in the top 10 in NC State history.

Other competitors signed up for this upcoming meet include senior Gabriele Cunningham for the women’s 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash as well as the

100-meter hurdles. Junior Grace Gaudin will be participating in the women’s shot put.

Freshman Alan Alvarez, senior Shannon Patterson and juniors Junpai Dowdy and Cravont Charleston finished fifth in the 4x100-meter relay during the Wolfpack’s previous meet.

All four members of the Pack are currently signed up for the men’s 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash for their upcoming meet.

Redshirt sophomore Tyson Fortenberry finished his last meet in the top 15 for men’s discus and will be competing in both the men’s shot put and discus.

The Wolfpack will begin the UVA Challenge and Duke Invitation Thursday and will conclude Saturday.

sported her third strikeout of the day by sitting down the next batter, but a single down the left-field line to tie it up 2-2.

Junior Devin Wallace came in to relieve Nester with the score tied 2-2 with runners on the corners and one out. A ground out to second put two away, but the leading run scored for the Phoenix.

Not too long after, a run scored off a wild pitch, a walk and a double to left field gave Elon a three-run lead over the Pack heading into the top of the sixth.

The seventh inning was the Pack’s rally when a walk, hit-by-pitch and single loaded the bases with two away. Visser secured her third hit of the game when she brought in two runs to close up the lead from Phoenix by one. A f ly out ended the threat to give the Wolfpack a 23-21 overall record on the season.

NC State will be back in action this weekend as it travels to Duke to compete in its next ACC series. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m.

Like Franken, Paxton is coming off his best finish of the season at the Stitch Intercollegiate, where he tied for 15th. Paxton also has ACC experience, as he finished tied for 38th at last year’s ACC Championships.

Senior Harrison R hoades f inished alongside Paxton in 38th at ACCs last year, and is averaging 73.52 strokes per

round this year. Rhoades’ best finish of the season came back in October, when he finished in 18th at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate.

The Wolfpack men’s final golfer is the only one on the team without ACC Cha mpionsh ips ex per ience. Ju nior Christian Sa lzer is averaging 73.37 strokes per round, and has a top-10

finish on the year. He tied for ninth at the Bandon Dunes Championships in March, and will wrap up the members of the Pack likely to compete at ACCs. While neither NC State team is likely to take home an ACC title this week, both squads have a great mixture of skill and experience, and could look to make some noise in a competitive field.
