TEXTILE PIONEER SCHOLARSHIP
The college’s first need-based scholarship provides access while also diversifying the Pack.
The Textile Pioneer Scholarship Program in the Wilson College of Textiles at NC State University aims to support students from North Carolina’s non-metropolitan areas and with first-generation university attendees. This scholarship program is increasing the college’s student quality while simultaneously enhancing access for students from diverse geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds — which is a critical challenge facing universities across the nation.
In North Carolina, counties are categorized by tiers based on four factors:
• Average unemployment rate
• Median household income
• Percentage growth in population

• Adjusted property tax base per capita
LESS THAN 27% of Wilson College students come from North Carolina’s Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties
Ascending in order of magnitude, Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties pose the greatest economic challenges and barriers to higher education. Currently, fewer than 27 percent of Wilson College of Textiles students come from North Carolina’s Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties. The remainder comes from more affluent Tier 3 counties.
The need-based Textile Pioneer Scholarship was established in 2018, in alignment with NC State’s land-grant mission, to diversify the college’s student body while maintaining the excellence to continue providing educational innovation.
Textile Pioneer Scholars receive:
$14,000 per year for four years
$4,000 in enrichment funds (for study abroad, leadership programs, career development, etc.)
Lifetime career services (personalized career counseling and support throughout their lives)
Make the Wilson College accessible by donating to the Textile Pioneer Scholarship Program
Funding to NC State from the state of North Carolina diminishes every year. Private support ensures that the most deserving students have access to a world-class education at the only college in the United States devoted entirely to textiles.
How you can support:
Funding a Textile Pioneer Scholarship annually
Every year, annual giving donors remove barriers and open doors by investing in life-changing scholarships, like the Textile Pioneer Scholarship. To fund an annual Textile Pioneer Scholarship, the donor contributes each year for that year’s scholarship.
Endowing a Textile Pioneer Scholarship
Endowments provide donors with opportunities to create living legacies. An endowed Textile Pioneer Scholarship is permanently funded by a donor, and scholarships are awarded from investment income. Endowed scholarships may be funded over a period of time if the donor desires.
Support to the Textile Pioneer Scholarship Program can be designated for a minimum length of five years through an annual fund or perpetually through the creation of an endowment, which requires a $350,000 investment. Endowed funds are invested into the North Carolina Textile Foundation and grow over time — with or without additional contributions.

“When I learned I was a recipient of the Textile Pioneer Scholarship, I was overwhelmed, humbled and super excited. The scholarship has enabled me to attend NC State University and have enough funding to meet my financial obligations for completing school.”
