FIRST-YEAR STUDIO

HANDWOVEN SAMPLE COLLECTION For this project, students were challenged to create original textile designs by hand, using unconventional looms and yarns. The resulting woven samples were then Photoshopped onto original fashion design sketches, creating unique patterns.

STUFFED ANIMAL PROJECT COLLECTION In this project, fashion and textile design students worked in groups to create collections of soft, animal-inspired toys. Each group also developed an original storyline, similar to that of a children’s book or cartoon, with each stuffed animal representing a specific character in the story.

FTD 200: T-SHIRT PROJECT In their first-year studio, fashion and textile design students learn how to work within design constraints. For this project, they’re challenged to take a simple flat t-shirt pattern and adapt its design and structure to create something fresh and original.

COLLABORATIVE MINI COLLECTIONS This was the final project for FTD 200, where students worked in small groups to design and produce a mini collection together. The collection below, titled “Threads of the Tide,” was created by Melyn Hales, Allie Albrecht and Andrea Castillo and focuses on sustainability and the beach.
