2024 Northern California PGA Operating Plan
OverviewThe 2024 Operating Plan, reflecting a Net Operating Income of $17,475 (NOI, summary below), is a revenue cautious plan given the continued economic uncertainties and the everchanging business environment along with continued inflationary pressures. The Northern California PGA income stream is a short menu. Revenue is derived from Member and Associate Dues, Partner Agreements, Association Development Program (ADP) funds, Tier Funding, and national royalties, keeping in mind that the majority of Partner Agreement income is designated to event purses, which are therefore paid out. 1) Key Factors: The following is a list of material considerations in the Plan: • 4% Dues increase in active classifications, excepting Life Member categories. This increase results in $18,000. • 8% increase in Health Insurance (Employee Benefit) costs. The Northern California PGA pays 100% of this benefit for our staff members after 60 days of service and are exploring options to revise into 2025. • NCGA/NCPGA bi-annual Competition is budgeted at $32,000. This includes our three competitive divisions: Hanna-Wehrman; Stadler- Jetter; and Women’s Division. • Cost sharing exists between the Northern California PGA and the Northern California PGA Foundation. These shared costs include wages, rent, employee benefits, overtime, shared subscriptions, supplies, etc. • The Northern California PGA staff expanded in 2023 with the addition of Michael Merritt, PGA, Assistant Executive Director, and Will Floyd, PGA Works Fellow. These additions serve to allow us to move strategically and purposefully in achieving net growth to our programs and adhering to the mission of Member service and expansion of the participating population.

In 2021, the PGA of America introduced Tier Funding, a program allowing us to “earn” additional revenue for the General Fund. The targets set have been successfully attained each year, resulting in funds of $ 46,238 for the year ended December 31, 2023. Meeting cost increases, such as the Summer and Annual Meetings, outpace our ability to pass along the proportionate increase to attendees as this is a two-prong increase, both food and beverage costs as well as lodging. Alternatives, including reviewing host facilities are critical as we move forward. The revitalization of our Committees will allow for a sustained aggressive approach to Partner Development. Each Partner Agreement does include general funds in the Marketing revenue stream, assisting in deferring departmental costs. Office space needs are being evaluated to ascertain if the current situation is Long-term financially viable. Our lease terminates December 31, 2024 and it is clear that though we hoped to possible move to the new Lagoon Valley development, the structural component will not be ready by end of year. We are looking for local alternatives.

Education/Mentoring Committee met on January 30, 2024 to discuss first steps. The committee also met with Tom Son, PGA on February 7th, 2024 to discuss the success he had with the Southern California PGA Associate Mentoring Program. The Education/Mentoring Committee has come up with a plan to expand education for Members and Associates. The committee is also focusing on mentoring as a key focus for the year. Meeting Discussions, Tasks, and Committee Education Goals and Additional Committee Members: The Committee discussed: • Process to find Mentors, create an Associate letter, and start a webinar • Co-Chairs Jordan and Ostler have reached out to four possible committee members (Donn Achen, Brooks Bultemeier, Gus Jones, and Will Manning) Tasks Delegated and Actions Underway: • Committee met with Tom Son, PGA about mentoring and is now developing a plan for program in Northern California • Committee has lined up the first two webinars for March and April and looking for presenters for the rest of the year. Jason posted a one under par 71 at a difficult Cordevalle Golf Club to win the 2024 NCPGA Pro Series season opener defeating Steve Hummel, PGA from Wolf Run GC and Ryan Williams, PGA from Woodbridge CC by one this past Monday to capture low professional honors amongst a strong field of 64 NCPGA professionals. Board of Directors Meeting February 13, 2024 – Castlewood CC PLAYER ENGAGEMENT CONSULTANT REPORT JUNKO HARKINS, PGA 2024 is starting out strong for our PGA of America Player Engagement Department, especially for PGA Jr. League. For the first time ever, we have had player registration open in January – almost a whole month earlier than we normally do. This has helped a lot of in-house leagues and professionals who would like to get ahead and plan earlier. This first month of the year has been a huge focus on PGA Jr. League and making sure everyone who is engaged with the program is ready to go for the whole year. There have also been some changes and updates as we move away from the Regional Model at the PGA – however, this will not change the support and services the section will receive from myself. The collaborative efforts with Career Consultant, Caitlyn Doyle, will continue as well! PGA Jr. League (Nationally as of December 2023 – to wrap things up) • • • • •

The 2023 PGA Jr. League #GameChanger Awards were awarded to the following PGA Professionals in the NCPGA: The PGA Jr. League #GameChanger Award for Largest Program in the Section – Derek Felciano, PGA @ Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club This award celebrates the PGA Jr. League Coach who had the largest program(s) in the local PGA Section by the number of total players registered. Derek had 139 total players.
PGA Jr. League #GameChanger Player Engagement Award – Derek Felciano, PGA @ Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club and Mark Naylor, PGA @ Round Hill Country Club This award celebrates PGA Jr. League Coaches who embrace a wide array of player engagement programming at their facilities. We’ve had some facilities decide not to participate this year due to staffing levels and course availability, but we’ve also had some new and lapsed facilities join us. Some exciting new leagues have been formed as well and there are a few new 17u leagues. Coaches and facilities can still register and publish programs for 2024. Looking forward to a great 2024 PGA Jr. League year! It’s never too late to start, so please reach out if you have any questions. PGA Family Golf REMINDER: PGA Family Golf can be offered by ANYONE! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A PGA JR. LEAGUE COACH! We ended 2023 for PGA Family Golf on a very high note. We held the very first PGA Family Golf Championship back in December on the Mountain and Dunes Courses in Southern California! We had family teams from all over the country participate and it was definitely amazing to see the magic take place amongst the families out on the golf course. Families from Maine, New York, Florida, Texas, all over the West Coast as well, came out to sunny California for the weekend. We even had a professional division and had golf pros from all over the country come out, from states like North Carolina and Utah. We would love to see more NCPGA facilities participate in 2024 and even encourage to send a team to represent their facility in the 2024 National Championship event.
