2022 SENIOR/JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP

Cook & Woods Claim Senior / Junior Championship at Orinda CC Congratulations to PGA Professionals Mike Cook from Pine Mountain Lake CC and Mike Woods from Haggin Oaks GC. Cook and Woods defeated PGA Professionals Laird Small and Norman Blanco from Pebble Beach. Cook and Woods over 36 holes of Better Ball and Scramble carded rounds of 62–60 = 122 winning by 3 strokes to claim the 2022 Senior / Junior Championship title.

The Championship Match was held on a windy Monday morning, May 16th, at California Golf Club. Congratulations to our 2022 Champion, Chelso Barrett (CordeValle)! Chelso and Chris Ingram (Pasatiempo) had a great match with Chelso coming out on top 2&1.

Thank you to everyone that competed in our 2022 Assistant-Associate Division Match Play Championship. Also additional thank you to Brett Morrison and Marlene Cuatlatl at Corica Park for hosting our Championship, Bryan Sterling for elevating the event with our Championship gift, and Matt Viguerie at California Golf Club for hosting our finals match.

2022 WOMEN'S DIVISION EVENT RECAP

The NCPGA Women’s Division held its first event of the 2022 season at Quail Lodge & Golf Club on May 8-9 and it was a great success. On May 8th the WD combined a practice round with a “Friends and Family” tournament giving the Division members an opportunity to spend more time together with each other and extended family. On May 9th, one of our biggest pro-series fields of 11 competitors took to the course as gusty winds blew through increasing difficulty around the track and on the slick greens.

LPGA & PGA member, Pat Hurst led the scoring with a 2 under par score of 69, with five birdies including three of them on the par 3 holes, for a 1st place finish. She was followed by a pair of 78’s for a 2nd place tie from Denise Bondurant of Kings CC and Katherine Marren of Quail Lodge, while Lake Merced’s Paige Phillips carded a 79 for 4th place.

The next NCPGA Women’s Division event will be at Stanford Golf Course on June 7, the Stroke Play Championship is at Half Moon Bay Golf Links on July 25 and another regular event is scheduled for Incline Village on August 22-23.

The NCPGA Women’s Division would like to thank Quail Lodge’s Head Pro, Bobby Barrett, and Superintendent, Denis Kerr, for hosting the first event of the season. Quail Lodge named, “the Best Conditioned Golf Course on the Central Coast,” every year since 2016 lived up to its moniker and was in spectacular shape.

2022 INAUGURAL LEGENDS CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP

Bitticks Claims Title at the Inaugural Legends Championship at Haggin Oaks Congratulations to PGA Professionals Chris Bitticks from Haggin Oaks. Chris carded over 36 holes at Haggin Oaks MacKenzie course a score of 146 for a demanding 6 stroke victory over PGA professional Frank Panetta from CordeValle GC. A gracious thank you to the Staff at Haggin Oaks, Ken Morton, Tom Morton and Head Professional Mike Woods for hosting the inaugural event that produced 29 super seniors throughout the NCPGA.

2022 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship

I would first like to thank all the members at The Club at Castlewood for the support and encouragement that you gave me while I got to live a lifelong dream. All of your support carried me onto the golf course. Playing in the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship has been by far the greatest highlight of my playing career. Although I didn’t play like I wanted to, 78-78 to miss the cut, I gained experience for when I play in the next event. Most of all, I made memories that will last a lifetime. Having my daughter, Chloe, caddying for me on Monday before Brett arrived only added to the experience. Playing practice rounds with Jean-Fransua Remsey on Monday, Cameron Beckman and Tom Byrum on Wednesday having Mark Hensby walking for a few holes on the back 9. Almost hitting Rich Beam with a half-shanked wedge during the practice round on Wednesday. Talking to Darren Clark on the chipping green about a chipping drill, hitting chips with long irons and making them land “soft”, that he learned from Seve Balesterios.

Getting to meet Corey Pavin, who won the US Open in 1995, the same year my son Corey was born. You guessed it; my son was named after him.

While I was playing, there was only one person that could be inside the ropes with me to listen when I hit a good or bad shot, talk me out or into a shot, or help me with reading a putt or getting a yardage. That person was my caddy, Brett Faulkner. I can’t thank him enough.

When I teed off on Thursday I saw my family off the tee behind me, my mom up in the grandstand behind the tee, but couldn’t find my dad and never knew where he was until Saturday at dinner. He showed me a picture of when I hit my first shot. He was at the very top of the grandstand and wanted to make sure to capture the moment, they all wanted to capture the moment. I am glad they did because I don’t remember.

When I went back on Saturday to watch some of the play, it really hit me. Looking around at all

the spectators watching 3 guys putting, all watching 152 of the best senior players in the world, Champions, and for one week... I was one of those guys.
