If you want to hire a web designer and you are confused how to do so! Don’t be!

Here’s how you should do it. Ask the following questions to yourself and you will automatically come to know which web designer is best for you.

1. What type of designer do you want?

The first thing you need to decide is what type of designer do you require. A freelancer or full time? A freelancer won’t be working at your office instead at his home / his convenient place whereas, a full time web designer will be working at your office. If, you cannot spend your resources for taking follow ups every now and then with the freelancer then your choice should be a full time web designer. The perk of hiring the full time working web designer is that you will be able to supervise his work. He will be under your surveillance. You can discuss regarding the project (for example if there are any alterations) without having to wait for conducting meetings.

2. Do you want to hire a single designer or a firm?

If you have decided not to a hire a full time web designer and to give your projects outside to a freelancer or a firm for designing it, then there are two options to do –

1) If you have a bunch of projects, then better to go for a firm to get a fast output.

They would charge according to the projects.

2) if you don’t have much projects and just a few ones then go for a single designer as most of them charge by per hour work done.

Choice wholly depends upon you. So choose wisely.

3. Who do you need to hire, a fresher or an experienced?

The second thing you need to think about is do you need an experienced person or a fresher would do? Let me explain it to you with an example: if a website is to be made, a fresher will make it but the finishing which is to be provided to appeal the customers to buy it is done by an experienced person. It’s not that the fresher is not capable of but it’s about the experience. Experienced one knows about the market, how to design the pot in order to attract the customers and also for that what strategies are to be applied. The same thing goes with the website designers. If there isn’t much complex work and it can be done by a fresher, then hire a fresher. But if you need a more perfect and complex part to be designed then hire an experienced.

4. What do you want him to design?

What do you want a designer to design is really important! Do you want him to just re-design your previous/ existing website or do you want him to design it from the scratch? If you hire a designer as an employee in your office, then he would have a fixed salary no matter he is told to re-deign the website or to design it from the scratch. But if you hire a freelancer or a firm then they would charge accordingly.

They have different rates for re-designing and to design from scratch. So if you want to just re-deign your website instead of hiring a designer as an employee we would suggest you to go for a freelancer or a firm as it would cost you a bit cheap comparatively.

5. Which platform do you finalize for your website?

It’s crucial that you discuss and finalize a platform suitable to your website in the beginning itself. Most of the designers use the open source ones like magento, drupal, wordpress etc. whereas, some of the firms use their own CMS. So it’s good to have a talk on CMS and decide one suitable to your website.

6. Do you want a local designer or from PAN level?

If you are going for a freelancer, then are you looking for PAN level or just the local ones? Actually it’s better to look for local ones as you can conduct meetings and discuss face to face. It would be much more reliable one indeed.

7. At what rate do you hire?

Hiring at the correct rate is very crucial. Before starting the hiring process, you should make a survey about the rates given to the specific level of experiences to a designer from other companies or people in the same industry. After interviewing and discussions based on their previous work done and number of years of experience or sample test given (in case of fresher), decide a rate the designer is worth for.

8. What terms and conditions you finalize?

Now after you have got all the answer to the questions above you need to amend the terms and conditions for the same. These terms and conditions should content all the necessary points such as – What should be the deadline of the project, can the deadline be waived if necessary and in what conditions, time to time follow ups, what if some corrections are required after the final delivery of the project. These are just an example of the terms and conditions. You can add the rest of them as you require.
