Message from the CEO

PROJECT OPTIMA

NCN Health has now officially gone live with Optima. Optima is now NCN Health’s primary rostering and leave management system. This is a significant milestone project for our organisation and reflects months of preparation, testing, training and teamwork across many departments.

A special acknowledgement goes to Director People Safety and Engagement, Heather Flynn and the Payroll Team, Roster Managers and the Optima Project Team for the extraordinary effort that has gone into delivering this project while continuing dayto-day operations and supporting our people.

This project set an ambitious timeline, but was delivered in comparatively record time.

Project Optima modernizes NCN Health’s rostering and leave management system in line with best practice standards.

A friendly reminder that with this new rostering system comes a greater emphasis on staff signing in and out of each shift. This ensures you are paid accurately and on time. Thank you for your support.

PEOPLE MATTER SURVEYACTIONS

NCN Health had a 52% response rate on the People Matter Survey, which will provide a significant body of feedback and valuable data to help inform future improvements.

A working group is being created to turn this feedback into action and staff are invited to get involved. The working party will; explore survey insights, identify priority actions and shape improvements and change across the organisation. Please contact ncnpeopleculture@ncnhealt h.org.au for more information.

This is an exciting opportunity and your input is invaluable.

WORKFORCE

NCN Health welcomes Ali Beatson back to her role as Director Clinical Services (DCS) following some recent leave. Thank you and acknowledgement to Carolyn Hargreaves for her DCS leadership at Nathalia Campus in Ali’s absence and for Melissa Neal’s leadership in the Acting DCS role at Cobram Campus.

COMMUNITY TRANSPORT PROGRAM - DIALYSIS

The Community Transport Program for Dialysis patients commenced on June 1 . This is a significant project that will support access to dialysis treatment for Moira Shire residents and surrounding communities. This program is led by Volunteer Coordinator Jacquie Hughes and is facilitated by volunteer drivers. Congratulations and thank you to Jacquie for her work in getting this program on the road. st

DIALYSIS AND

SAME DAY CANCER CARE IN COBRAM

Alongside the Community Transport Program, NCN Health received funding to undertake a discovery and planning project to determine whether a dialysis and same day cancer treatment service could be developed at the Cobram Campus. This work is focused on understanding the infrastructure, workforce and operational requirements needed to deliver these services locally, helping to improve access to care for our community closer to home. It is important to note that this funding supports planning only.

Message from the CEO

Once completed, the planning work will be submitted to the Department of Health for consideration. While it is a positive step, it does not guarantee future funding for construction or service delivery However, completing this planning work is an essential first step in demonstrating the need for, and feasibility of, these important services at NCN Health

NCN Health has launched its Community Transport Program. The program supports local residents, with a focus on dialysis patients, to access essential medical appointments outside the immediate area, such as Shepparton, Yarrawonga and Kyabram.

Following a successful test drive of the program in May, NCN Health has established a growing pool of volunteers and a coordinated roster with transport officially starting on June 1 . st

Public Sector Residential Aged Care Numurkah

We are excited to share that construction for the Public Sector Residential Aged Care Service (PSRACS) in Numurkah will be commencing in the coming weeks and you may start to see some activity in and around the work site

This marks a significant milestone for the project and NCN Health after many months of planning and preparation. The new facility, which will be built off Hurley Court, adjacent to the current NCN Health Numurkah Urgent Care Centre and Karinya Nursing Home, will eventually replace the current Numurkah Pioneers Memorial Lodge.

As works begin, you will notice an increase in activity across the site, including construction personnel, vehicles, and general movement. While construction vehicles will not be parking in Hurley Court, there will be increased traffic in the surrounding areas, along with some noise and disruption during working hours.

We will continue to keep you informed and provide updates as the project progresses. This is an exciting step forward and we look forward to seeing the project come to life

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Operations Manager Bronti O'Connor, Bronti.OConnor@ncnhealth.org.au . We look forward to keeping staff informed about the many exciting developments to come

Framing the Lodge

A photographic event to celebrate Numurkah Pionee Memorial Lodge’s 50th Anniversary

This August ‘The Lodge’ will celebrate its 50 year annivesary. As part of these celebrations we are calling on keen photographers to capture the stories, memories and moments that make ‘The Lodge’ unique.

The Archibald - Resident Portraits

Inspired by The Archibald - but in photo form, we are inviting photographers to capture the faces, personalities and experiences of our residents in a portrait. Through your lens, we’re looking for more than just a photograph Who is this person? What matters to them? What does their story reveal? These portraits will celebrate the individuality, humour and depth of the people who call ‘The Lodge’ home.

The Building – Bricks, Mortar & Memory

Alongside our portraits, we’re inviting photographers to turn their focus to ‘The Lodge’ itself As we look ahead to the construction of a new residential aged care facility, this is a moment to reflect on the building that has been at the heart of our community for 50 years

Selected works from both categories will be exhibited as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations. We encourage local creatives of all skill levels to get involved, have some fun, share some stories and help us celebrate 50 years of ‘The Lodge’

Take a Seat!

The concrete seats at the front of Nathalia Campus have had an upgrade. These refurbishments came about following feedback from the Nathalia Consumer Committee. The feedback noted that the seats were both cold and difficult for some to access, as they were quite low to the ground and had no handles/arm rests.

The maintenance team improved the depth of the seat by adding wooden slats and improved safety and accessibility wtih the addition or rails at each end.

Well done to all involved, they look fabulous.

REWARD AND RECOGNITION MAY

RACHEL O’DWYER - DISTRICT NURSING MANAGER

I believe Rachel to be a source of inspiration, a fantastic motivator who manages staff with consistency and fairness. Rachel always demonstrates respect, accountability and partnership. The high level of morale within the DNS team is largely due to her presence and initiatives. Rachel lives the values.

ANDREA PACKER - RADIOGRAPHER

She approaches every day with a friendly, happy, and approachable attitude, creating a welcoming environment for patients and staff alike. No matter how busy the department becomes, she remains calm, compassionate, and always willing to help. She never says no when assistance is needed and continually demonstrates exceptional teamwork and patient care.

ASHLEE CLIFFORD - PRACTICE NURSE, COBRAM MEDICAL CLINIC

Nothing is too much trouble for Ash. Whether it is having to re-arrange her day to help the Nurses in the treatment room or helping our patients with their forms. She is friendly to all our patients and everything is done with a smile

ANGELA THORNE - EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST

When we are short staffed Angela is the first person to offer to jump in and assist our intake team at any time, ensuring incoming referrals and client appointments are booked in a timely manner. This has been a huge help to our entire intake team relieving pressure off our team and ensuring the service is running effectively to benefit our community and clinicians

ANNIE, CAROL, SINI AND MARY - THE LODGE, NUMURKAH

These four lovely staff members work really hard overnight to help ease the load of work each morning for day staff. They all go above and beyond to help out the residents, all whilst doing it with a great attitude.

LISA AQUILINA - OHS OFFICER

Over the past few months Lisa has worked tirelessly across campuses to support staff within her role. She has actively engaged with staff in OH+S matters to ensure we are making meaningful, positive sustainable change. (Partnership). She has always shown accountability within her role while maintaining an amazing level of compassion and respect for those she has been working with in relation to delicate issues. She has also been a key driver in improving some processes to ensure the safety of ourselves and those within our care. (Innovation). We are a better place for having Lisa looking out for us.

KESTO GOES LIVE

On Friday 22 May 2026 “Kesto” went Live. nd

Kesto is a new Digital Invoice Processing system

Phase 1 is the automation process where the invoices are scanned and the data is extracted from the invoice and purchase orders which shows any variations. After validation the data is then imported to Oracle Finance System. This program eliminates the manual keying process.

A great achievement for the Finance Team, HRHA & Kyocera to have this implemented.

All In for National Reconciliation Week 2026

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, learn from one another, and consider how we can contribute to reconciliation in our everyday lives and workplaces.

Why this week matters

National Reconciliation Week is held each year from 27 May to 3 June and recognises two significant milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey: 27 May – Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum, when Australians voted overwhelmingly to amend the Constitution to include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the census.

3 June – Mabo Day, recognising the historic 1992 High Court decision that overturned the legal fiction of terra nullius and recognised native title rights

What is reconciliation?

At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians, built on listening, trust, respect, honesty, and equity Reconciliation is not a one-off event, but an ongoing commitment to learning from the past and working together toward a more inclusive future.

Why does it matter?

In a health setting, reconciliation matters because it directly influences health outcomes, cultural safety, and trust in the care we provide.

Strengthening reconciliation helps ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples receive care that is respectful, safe, responsive, and traumainformed.

The impacts of colonisation are not just part of history they continue to affect individuals, families, and communities today. Understanding this is an important part of delivering compassionate, culturally safe, and traumainformed care. Reconciliation means acknowledging these truths, listening to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, and ensuring communities are involved in shaping the solutions and services that affect them.

What can we do?

Staff play an important role in reconciliation every day. This includes:

Providing culturally safe and respectful care

Listening and learning from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, families, and communities

Reflecting on our own practice and unconscious bias

Participating in cultural learning opportunities

Challenging racism or discrimination when it occurs

Supporting Aboriginal-led initiatives and partnerships

Small, consistent actions from all staff contribute to meaningful change and help ensure our service is welcoming, respectful, and safe for everyone.

Reconciliation Action Plan Update | Progress & Next Steps

We would like to sincerely thank all staff, stakeholders and community members who have contributed their time, knowledge and voice to the development of our new RAP. Your input has been invaluable in shaping a plan that reflects our organisation’s commitment to reconciliation. We are now pleased to advise that the RAP has been endorsed by the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and will now progress through NCN Health’s governance structure for further approval. Following this, it will be submitted to Reconciliation Australia for formal endorsement. We are currently anticipating the launch of the new RAP in August/September 2026. If you are interested in joining the Reconciliation Working Group, please contact Sheridan Davies at Sheridan.davies@ncnhealth.org.au .

Learning, Reflection & Resources

As Reconciliation Week comes to a close, we reflect on the importance of continuing this work beyond the week itself. To support your learning, a range of resources are available on the NCN Health Intranet under the Diversity Page > Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples section. These include cultural learning resources, organisational commitments, and workforce information. We also encourage staff to take time to listen to local voices and lived experiences, and to reflect on how we can each contribute to culturally safe and respectful care within our services. Small, ongoing actions from all staff contribute to meaningful change and help create a safer, more inclusive, and culturally responsive health service for everyone.

Pride Month

Pride Month is a special moment for many to reflect on the impacts of our shared queer histories from around the globe, and how that has played out a profound impact of joy and pride to many. We also reflect that in our own country, whilst we pause and share in that joy, that pushback and challenges specific to our own community continue to occur. For many of us, both is true this pride month, where we feel joy, connect to community, but are also reminded of the origins of this movement.

Report to your Direct Manager or After-Hours Manager if unwell...

This is a friendly reminder to complete your mandatory training. All mandatory modules are required to be finalised by 30 September 2026, or if you are a new staff member, within 3 months of your commencement, so we encourage you not to leave this until the last minute getting started now and completing modules progressively can make it much more manageable.

In Kineo, you will see a section titled “Mandatory Training”— all modules within this section must be completed. There is also an “Other Courses” section, which includes optional modules that are not mandatory but are strongly recommended to complete.

Please note that additional modules may be added from time to time, so it’s a good idea to revisit Kineo periodically to ensure everything is up to date.

To help us manage enquiries efficiently and ensure that your learning records are up to date, please direct all Kineorelated queries including attendance sheets, certificates, or RPL records to NCNLearningDevelopment@ncnhealth.org.au.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

We are pleased to confirm that NCN Health has now officially gone live with Optima. This is a significant milestone for our organisation and reflects months of preparation, testing, training and teamwork across many departments.

A special acknowledgement goes to the Payroll Team, roster managers and the Optima Project Team for the extraordinary effort that has gone into delivering this project while continuing day-to-day operations and supporting our people.

What this means

Optima is now NCN Health’s primary rostering and leave management system. All roster managers can now stop managing rosters in both Optima and Roster On, please only update and use Optima for roster changes. The next pay will now be based only on Optima.

Soon we will communicate dates for Roster On decommissioning, this will be done in a phased approach and until then, you can still use Roster On to check historical information and future rosters not yet created to Optima. NCN now enters the next phase with the vendor RL Datix called hypercare, which ensures any issues will continue to be triaged quickly with them.

Important reminders

Please continue to check your roster regularly and notify your manager quickly if anything appears incorrect

Roster managers are asked to continue maintaining good roster governance and timely approvals

Some minor issues or adjustments may still arise as part of normal post-go-live activity and hypercare support. If this occurs, please be assured the project and payroll teams are actively monitoring and responding quickly.

PYSCHOCIAL HAZARDREPORTING PORTAL

The new Psychosocial Hazard Reporting Portal (PHRP) is now available via the intranet (under Popular Hangouts, or the OHS page).

This platform allows staff to report workplace issues that may impact mental health, safety or wellbeing—with the option to remain anonymous.

Reporting early helps us identify risks, provide support and improve workplace culture. All reports are reviewed by the OHS team, managed confidentially, and used to inform improvements across the organisation.

For more information, training opportunities or support, contact NCNOHS@ncnhealth.org.au.

Psychosocial Hazards

New Victorian regulations clarify that psychosocial hazards must be managed in the same way as physical risks. Hazards such as bullying, harassment, violence, and exposure to traumatic material can cause serious psychological injury.

The Occupational Health and Safety (Psychological Health) Regulations 2025 introduce specific duties for Victorian employers to identify psychosocial hazards, control associated risks, and regularly review those controls.
