However, holistic education and care can provide the tools necessary to help. Nazarene child development addresses not just one aspect of a child’s life and growth but all aspects: spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, and relational growth. Holistic support for children provides the tools children need to succeed in all major areas of life. Providing educational and social support gives children the confidence and tools to succeed in school and beyond. Holistic Care Leads to Success in Zambia At one Child Development Center in Zambia, 64 children receive care through meals, socialization, physical activity, and homework help. Mary*, grade 8, has been attending for about five years. She struggled with staying focused when she was going to school hungry. However, now she has found that access to meals and extra support has helped her succeed in school. “I started coming to the CDC when I was in grade three. At that time, I couldn’t read or write because I was going to school on an empty stomach. It was hard to concentrate,” Mary explained. “The moment I started going to the center, things changed. Each day, I receive a meal and then get helped with my schoolwork. Now I can read and write. Last year, in December, I wrote my grade seven (exams) and passed very well. I’m currently doing grade 8 and enjoying school.”
