L atinos and H ealth Coverage: O regon by the Numbers L atinos1 are more likely to be uninsured than any other racial or ethnic group in the U.S. +RZHYHU +LVSDQLF IDPLOLHVœ DFFHVV WR KHDOWK LQVXUDQFH YDULHV E\ VWDWH (see F igure 1). In O regon: ™ L atinos have inadequate access to the cur rent health coverage system. In 2008, only about one-third (35.7%) of all Latinos living in Oregon had employer-sponsored health insurance, and one-quarter (25.3%) were covered by Medicaid or the &KLOGUHQœV +HDOWK ,QVXUDQFH Program.2 ™ As a result, L atino families are at risk for uninsurance. That year, nearly two in five (38.1%) Latinos in Oregon were uninsured, and more than one in six (17.6%) Latino children under age 18 had no form of health coverage.3 ™ L atinos are over represented among the uninsured. Although Hispanics made up one-tenth (10.2%) of the total state population in 2008, they represented nearly onefourth (23.9%) of OregonœV XQLQVXUHG 4
