L atinos and H ealth Coverage: K entucky by the Numbers L atinos1 are more likely to be uninsured than any other racial or ethnic group in the U.S. +RZHYHU +LVSDQLF IDPLOLHVœ DFFHVV WR KHDOWK LQVXUDQFH YDULHV E\ VWDWH (see F igure 1). In K entucky: ™ L atinos have inadequate access to the cur rent health coverage system. In 2008, only about one-quarter (25.3%) of all Latinos living in Kentucky had employersponsored health insurance, and nearly to one-third (30.4%) were covered by 0HGLFDLG RU WKH &KLOGUHQœV Health Insurance Program.2 ™ As a result, L atino families are at risk for uninsurance. That year, nearly one-half (46.7%) of all Latinos in Kentucky were uninsured, and more than one in six (17.4%) Latino children under age 18 had no form of health coverage.3 ™ L atinos are over represented among the uninsured. Although Hispanics made up 2.4% of the total state population in 2008, they represented 7% of KentuckyœV uninsured.4
