Weekend 1 is June 7-8 and Weekend 2 is June 14-15. Studios are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, unless otherwise noted.
Join us this year for North Coast Open Studios Art Night, Friday, June 6, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A listing of participating artists and Art Night-specific maps are on pages 4-5.
North Coast Open Studios, a DreamMaker project of the Ink People, is an annual showcase of local artists and their art in Humboldt County. Included in this guide, you will find listings for artists who are opening their studios (their “natural habitats,” if you will) to the public, allowing art lovers a glimpse into the creative process.
Visitors to North Coast Open Studios will have an opportunity to see what happens inside an artist’s creative space. Meet the artists and see work from a wide array of art styles, including painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, glass, fiber, jewelry, ceramics, and more. During this free showcase for the arts, visit mid-career and emerging artists in traditional and non-traditional spaces. Talk to artists about their creative process, see their recent works, and purchase art.
Visit our website at northcoastopenstudios.com for maps, additional images, artist information and more! Want to keep up-to-date on what is going on? Follow North Coast Open Studios on Facebook and Instagram!
The artist listings are arranged alphabetically by community, listed regionally from South to North. Browse through to discover the artists you wish to visit. Check the maps, shown with each community listing, to find studios based on location. Looking for a specific artist? Check the Alphabetical index on page 37. Each artist listing has general information about the artist, including an image of their work, the type of artwork they create, art categories (for the Visitor BINGO game on page 7), directions to their studio, contact information, and which weekend (or weekends) they will be open. Artist listings also tell you whether or not the studio is wheelchair accessible (wheelchair logo) and if the artist is new to the event (this will be handy for the Visitor BINGO game).
At the end of the artist listings is a special section of artists who will not be open during either Open Studios weekend, but are open by appointment only, year-round. Also, if you can’t visit an artist during their open weekend, keep in mind that many artists enjoy visitors, and most will open their studios by appointment throughout the year.
However you plan your visit to North Coast Open Studios, you will find a dazzling display of fine arts and crafts to fit all styles and budgets. Get to know your local artists and enjoy the amazing variety of art Humboldt County has to o er! North Coast Open Studios is a free event, so there is no admission charged at any venue.
North Coast Open Studios is a DreamMaker project of the Ink People Center for Arts and Culture, and is supported by Humboldt County artists, businesses, and community members like you. NCOS would not be possible without the generous support of many people.
First and foremost, thank you to the artists who start responding to my registration emails as soon as the link goes live. Decades long participants and folks who are new to the event hold the same amount of space in my heart. Y’all are what I love about this event.
Thank you to my husband, Robot Adams, who reminds me to take creative breaks throughout the event coordination season, delivers me snacks and drinks as I pore through spreadsheets and map placements, and makes me laugh. And my kiddo, Alton, who’s doing his best to rebel against “art”... wish me luck with that.
Thank you to Holly Harvey, our Guidebook Layout Goddess at the North Coast
Journal, without whom I can’t imagine tackling this project — the rare graphic designer who also catches typos… Holly is one-of-a-kind.
Huge thanks to the crew at the 101 Things Publication who created most of the maps we have used for decades, and to Kirk Shelton who stepped in to create this year’s Alton map and help with renumbering the rest.
Thank you to my Ink People co-workers, Executive Director Leslie Castellano and Marketing Director Sage Juarez. Sage is this year’s poster designer and a new NCOS participating artist.
Thanks so much to Jesseca Waggoner, who wrangled all of the delicious and refreshing treats for our May Arts Alive! gallery reception; the Ink People’s Gallery Director, Katie Uber; and all of the volunteers who hung the beautiful gallery show, checked out guidebooks, and poured drinks at the reception. Also, the Eureka Cultural Arts District and Hum-
boldt County Visitors Bureau, with which the Ink People’s Brenda Tuxford Gallery shares a space at 422 1st Street. Your support means so much to this event.
Thank you to the Humboldt Creative Alliance for a grant from the Measure J funding that allowed North Coast Open Studios to provide a series of marketing workshops by Holly Hilgenberg of Society of Air to this year’s participating artists, free of cost.
And thank you, Headwaters Fund, for sponsoring this year’s event with a mini-grant.
Finally, but certainly not least, thank you to our event sponsors! This event couldn’t happen without all of you!
~Monica Topping-Adams~ Coordinator & Participating Artist, North Coast Open Studios

North Coast
Open Studios 2024 showcased more than 160 artists around the county, and a variety of creative media. Here are some of our favorite photos of artists at work in their studios last year, along with this year’s listing number and location.

North Coast Open Studios is led by a team of working artists and community members dedicated to opening doors to artists in our community. This crew helps design posters and guidebooks, wrangle funding and treats for the May Arts Alive gallery reception, and spread the word about this annual event throughout the community.
To find out more about North Coast Open Studios or get involved call (707) 442-8413 or email contact@northcoastopenstudios.com.
Sage Alucero (they/them) is a multimedia artist. Their Earth-inspired creations are brought into being to enchant our spirits. With experience in printmaking, painting, and poetry they hope to uplift the Queer community and the interconnections we all share with nature. Sage works at the Ink People as the Marketing Manager and Administrative Assistant. You may also see them co-coordinating workshops with Color Maíz, an itinerant art lab centering BIPOC 2S/LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent communities in Humboldt. Sage wishes everyone an abundant and inspiring Open Studios!
Leslie Castellano (she/her) is the Executive Director of the Ink People Center for Arts and Culture. Leslie is also a city councilperson, working artist, aerial dance instructor, event producer, and community organizer. Leslie works to create opportunities to deepen community wellbeing through art and culture, supporting and developing emerging social practices and a wide range of creative endeavors. She has a deep appreciation for the roles that artists and cultural keepers play in a vibrant and healthy community.
Holly Harvey (she/her) has one foot in the art world and the other rooted in science. She is an artist, birdwatcher, gardener, fermenter, and cat lover. Professionally, she is a graphic artist and Production Manager for the North Coast Journal.
In college, she balanced biology course work with studio art classes including painting, printmaking, weaving, and scientific illustration. She practices Japanese tea ceremony, and her affiliation with the Eureka-Kamisu Sister City Association prompted her to paint an otter for the North Coast Otter Project in 2020.
It has been her pleasure to be part of the North Coast Open Studios and witness its growth since its beginning with artists Susan Fox and Sasha Pepper.
Monica Topping-Adams (she/her) has coordinated North Coast Open Studios since 2014. She has more than 20 years of event experience between her time as a co-founder and board member of Kinetic Universe, helping her family with motorcycle events, and serving on various local boards of directors. Monica worked in various facets of local media for nearly two decades and prides herself on being a conduit between artists and culture bearers, and local resources and connections.
Monica has been a Rutabaga Queen since 2004, a Kinetic Art Judge since 2014, sat on the City of Eureka’s Art and Culture Commission since 2016, won the Victor Thomas Jacoby Award in 2016 for her work turning recycled glass into wearable art, was chosen as the City of Eureka’s Artist of the Year in 2020, and works at the Ink People Center for Arts and Culture as the Administrative Director.
Outside of North Coast Open Studios season, Monica is the owner and jewelry designer behind Rock Chick Designs.
Jesseca Waggoner (she/her) has worked and volunteered in Humboldt for the last 20+ years. She is currently utilizing the skills acquired from her recently acquired MBA from Cal Poly Humboldt, while working as an assistant and cheerleader for multiple local artists. Always eager to throw a party, she was excited to be brought on board this year to assist with the NCOS Gallery Show and Reception!
From a young age, Jesseca has always kept her hands busy with crocheted and knitted projects, but never considered herself artistic in any way. It has only been recently that she has begun to accept that traditional fiber, and the not-so-traditional plastic bag yarn (plarn), are her own artistic media, and she’s been an artist all along. You can see more of her artistic endeavors on Instagram @lifestyleart_by_jess and Facebook @lifestyleartbyjess.
