About NCC Education General Manager, NCC Education

NCC Education is an awarding organisation and global provider of British education. We offer the complete education solution to our Accredited Partner Centres in more than 50 countries.

The Expert Industry Panel aims to draw on the expertise from its members to update our qualifications, so they stay relevant to the education market today and satisfy the ever-changing needs for skills that resolve tomorrow’s problems.

We began offering computing qualifications and gradually expanded our higher education portfolio to include Business, English Language and Foundation level qualifications.

Originally part of the National Computing Centre, NCC Education was established as a computing initiative by the British government in 1966.

In 1967, we became independent from the British government and established ourselves as an awarding organisation of British qualifications.

We work in partnership with our Accredited Partner Centres and universities worldwide to provide students with an affordable pathway to a university degree or masters qualification in Business and Computing.

Our qualifications are recognised by universities, professional bodies and employers globally and have boosted the careers of over 157,000 students around the world.

What is the

EXPERT INDUSTRY PANEL The Expert Industry Panel is a half day event where local experts within the IT industries are invited to our Head Office in Didsbury, Manchester.

The event consists of taking our Level 4 and Level 5 Computing Diplomas into consideration and reviewing their suitability for current requirements and skill sets within industry.

Why do we do it?

We conduct these panels annually to assess the validity of our qualification portfolio to ensure we remain relevant in the IT marketplace in the UK and internationally.

Ofqual NCC Education is recognised by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) as an awarding body of quality British qualifications. The Office regulates qualifications, examinations and assessments in England, to ensure that all students receive the highest standard of education. Students are invited to attend their Graduation Ceremony, which is held at the Preston Guild Hall in the UK.

BSc (Hons) Computing Specialisms available in: • Information Systems • Network Systems

Delivery method: Classroom Duration: 1 year full-time Final year of honours degree pathway Delivered face-to-face by NCC Education Accredited Partner Centres, awarded by the University of Greenwich.

Students are invited to attend their Graduation Ceremony at the University campus in London UK.

Level 4 Diploma in Computing makes up the first year of the NCC Education degree journey. The qualification is equivalent to the first year of an IT degree in the UK university system.

Students will be given the opportunity to develop essential thinking and study skills, not only within the computing domain, but also within the context of business through a balance of academic and vocational subjects.

• Skills for Computing – This module provides essential skills required by computing students.

The skills taught include study, presentation, report-writing and data handling skills. It will prepare students for successful outcomes in their studies and provide them with skills that can be applied in the workplace.

• Computer Networks – This module helps students to develop a good understanding of basic theory and useful practical skills of networking and communication that are vital in today’s connected world.

• Computer Systems – This module addresses the development of practical skills in the configuration, maintenance, fault finding and troubleshooting of modern computer systems and develops knowledge of computer architecture.

• Designing and Developing a Website – This module provides students with the practical skills required in website design such as understanding of mark-up languages,

style sheets, design techniques and testing.

• Databases – This module provides students with thorough training in practical techniques for the design and development of database systems and develops a sound understanding of the underpinning theory.

• Designing and Developing ObjectOriented Computer Programmes – This module provides students with a thorough grounding in programming methods, and a detailed knowledge of developing programs using C#.

• Software Development Techniques – This module addresses the wider issues of software development together with a languageindependent survey of useful data structures and algorithms.

• Office Solutions Development – This module teaches students to develop practical skills in the automation of common office applications to support a variety of tasks.

Level 5 Diploma in Computing

I gained the NCC Education Level 5 Diploma in Computing and then the BSc (Hons) in Business in Information Technology Top-Up Degree. What I enjoyed the most is the fact that I was able to live among my family and friends and at the same time as I studied for a British qualification.

The Level 5 Diploma in Computing makes up the second year of the NCC Education degree journey and builds upon the knowledge gained during the NCC Education Level 4 Diploma in Computing.

Exposing students to greater detail and more advanced topics in a range of areas including database development, information systems analysis, network security and cryptography.

• Professional Issues in IT – This module highlights the professional issues that impact the development, deployment, maintenance and use of computer systems. It equips students with the knowledge surrounding social, ethical and legal issues applicable to the IT field and also a working understanding of software quality.

• Network Security and Cryptography – This module provides students with the underlying theory and practical skills required to secure networks and to send data safely and securely over communications networks.

• Information Systems Analysis – This module equips students with a range of tools to analyse the function and requirements of information systems, as well as the skills to compare systems analysis models and to examine them in the wider context of the Internet and the social, economic and political climate of an organisation.

• Dynamic Websites – This module builds on existing knowledge of both databases and web design in order to

build dynamic websites and also equips students with a range of skills to present content on the World Wide Web. • Analysis, Design and Implementation – This module provides students with indepth knowledge, skills and experience in the use of objectoriented techniques for the development of software. It develops students’ expertise in object-oriented analysis, design and coding, and the testing of systems.

• Database Design and Development – This module allows students to develop skills in the design and development of databases and database management systems, as well as investigating enterprise applications of databases.

• Agile Development – This module explores the processes, people, practices and principles of agile development systems.

It prepares students for future trends in software development and reinforces their understanding of the information systems development process.

• Computing Project – This module provides students with the opportunity to utilise the skills needed to develop a computing artefact to solve a problem, which involves research, analysis, design, coding, testing and project management knowledge and expertise.

Level 5 Diploma in Cyber Security

The NCC Education Level 4 Diploma in Computing covers the foundation of IT and business, as well as practical skills in computing. This British diploma is recognised worldwide and provides me with the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue a career in the IT industries.

The Level 5 Diploma in Cyber Security makes up the second year of the NCC Education degree journey. This builds upon the knowledge gained during the Level 4 Diploma in Computing (L4DC).

This qualification is designed to develop the specialist skills necessary to protect and secure data systems from ever-increasing threats in today’s evolving digital society. Six Core units include (three units created by the EC Council* and three units created by NCC Education) • Network Security Threats and Defence Mechanisms - Provides students with the skills to eliminate or reduce the risks associated with network vulnerability and protects valuable information held by organisations* • Computer Forensics and Incident Investigation – Understanding the investigation requirements and prosecution of cyber criminals. Students will learn the necessary processes required for the acquisition, inspection, and reporting of information stored across computer

networks related to criminal incidents* • Ethical Hacking and Information Security Assessments – Understanding of the concept of ‘ethical’ hacking and the essential elements; such as information security, threats and attack vectors of information security, hacking and ethical hacking concepts including risk management* • Network Security and Cryptography – See above in Level 5 Diploma in Computing • Information Systems Analysis – See above in Level 5 Diploma in Computing • Analysis, Design and Implementation (elective) – See above in Level 5 Diploma in Computing • Professional Issues in IT (elective) – See above in Level 5 Diploma in Computing On successful completion of the qualifications at Level 5 (L4DC and L5DCS), students will be able to complete the final year of a degree with one of NCC Education’s partnership universities.
