Dare to Dream Every Brooksian who walks through the gates of Northbrooks starts an adventure. A journey towards their hopes and dreams, which like mountains loom in the distance, daring one to conquer them. Guided by visionary leaders, nurturing teachers and caring parents, who like stars light the way forward, they find their pathway and surmount challenges, as they take steps towards their goals. Along the way, they fill their backpacks with essential gear to prepare for the future, whether to tackle unexpected circumstances, or to bounce forward after a failure. They acquire knowledge about the world, leadership skills and cross-cultural competencies. And at the heart of it all, the G.I.F.T.E.D. values keep them rooted. As night falls, they take their seats around the warm glow of the campfire, and pause to celebrate and bond with their companions on this journey with them. Together with their fellow adventurers, they pitch their tents and reminisce about moments they have shared so far, tired but proud of how far they have come. Morning dawns and the mountain beckons. Principal’s Message

What an awesome year it’s been! That aptly summarises our 2019 Northbrooks Story. This is the first implementation year of our 5-year Strategy Plan (20192023); it has been a fruitful, exciting and meaningful journey. In Northbrooks, we are steadfast in charting our way ahead to foster a caring, positive and innovative learning environment for all. I would like to show my deepest appreciation to my Team Northbrooks (educators and administrative support team), affiliated partners (School Advisory Committee, Parent Support Group, alumni and parents), as well as our external community and international partners for their unwavering support towards the school. I’m also grateful to our dedicated publications team for working tirelessly on yet another wonderful and distinctive Yearbook. The theme for our 2019 Yearbook is ‘Dare to Dream’, a fitting phrase that captures our hopes. We want to see a Champion in each Brooksian, someone who dares to pursue his or her dreams. To realise these dreams, we want our Brooksians to strive to be better each day, and to confidently face any challenge along the way. We want

our Brooksians to embrace the joy of learning, not for the sake of competing with others, but for their own growth. And finally, we want our Brooksians to develop the self-discipline and inner motivation necessary to learn for life. Indeed, our Team Northbrooks believes that every Brooksian has his or her own talent, potential and strengths. Each Brooksian too, can achieve something great in life as long as they set a clear and purposeful goal for themselves and work towards it, with grit and resilience. To that end, we will continue to instill the courage and confidence in our Brooksians to take that leap of faith to make that effort to fulfil their hopes and dreams. We will continue to put each and every Brooksian in the centre of what we do, focusing on their well-being and preparing them for the fulfilling life ahead of them; precisely as our Minister for Education, Mr Ong Ye Kung shared in his Opening Address at the Schools Work Plan Seminar 2018 (28 September 2018), “We know that our students need to be resilient, adaptable and global in their outlook. They must leave the education system still feeling curious and eager to learn, for the rest of their lives.”

I strongly believe that a school needs to be a place where everyone finds it safe to try and experiment with new ideas. In addition, we ought to embrace the ‘tryfail-try’ spirit as we do so. A refreshing and meaningful school life depends on all of us, as we each try to make a positive difference to ourselves and to others during our engagements with the community. This year, it is crystal clear that we have set forth towards that positive change. It is truly amazing to see a number of our Brooksians and educators embarking together on a multitude of innovative and authentic learning experiences, such as in the newly opened Makerspace and the inaugural Humanities trip to Vietnam. As you browse through this Yearbook, you will be able to catch a glimpse of more of such opportunities. Through all these well-designed learning experiences, we have made multiple deliberate efforts to encourage social mixing, working in teams, peer leadership, character building, opportunities for student voice, deep thinking and connection-making for our Brooksians. I am thoroughly elated by my colleagues’ efforts and for believing in our School Mission:

Even as we create joyful learning for our students, how can teaching, too, be joyful? What keeps us going and energised in what we do here in Northbrooks? What makes teaching so exciting and refreshing, is not only because we warmly welcome new students to our school each year, but because we find meaning in honing our craft and working with our colleagues to learn and create value, through shared experiences. Here in Northbrooks, we take our professional development very seriously. In fact, it is etched onto our DNA signature, and evident as we strive to learn, unlearn and relearn as part of our continual efforts to become competent reflective practitioners. ‘Learning from Self, from Others and with Others’ is our key approach towards professional development. I’m elated that we are focusing on Critical Inquiry processes to improve the theory-practice nexus. We have provided a wide range of formal and informal opportunities for learning such as Open Classroom and

Peer Classroom observations, Good Practice Sharing during Staff Meetings, Professional Learning Teams (PLTs), Knowledge Cafes, Peer Coaching and so on. At the same time, we have developed various in-house tools and systems to help us in improving our processes: Lesson Observation Tools, Heart-to-Heart, Effective Feedback, Character Index, just to name a few. We are also very proud to announce our second Northbrooks Research and Inquiry Publication, Quest@Northbrooks (QN) (Volume 2, 2018) this year, and we look forward to the next publication for 2019. Finally, I am happy to share that we have had very good Secondary 1 enrolment for the past two consecutive years, with improved academic attainments and quality school programmes in our Cognitive and ChAMPS (Character, Aesthetics, Moral, Physical and Social) domains. All these will not be possible, if not for our committed Team Northbrooks. Thank you Team! Our Team Northbrooks will always remain devoted to our cause – ‘Every Brooksian a Champion, Impacting the Community’ – Our School Vision, which you will hear us echoing repeatedly. Indeed, there is so much potential in every Brooksian that we are always looking forward to their learning taking shape in class, outside of class and out in the community. Together with our Northbrooks Community of Skillful Champion Teachers and our strong Home-School-Community partnerships forged, we will continue to develop quality authentic curriculum and co-curriculum experiences for our Brooksians and fully realise our School Vision. Message from the School Advisory Committee (SAC) Chairman

The theme for this yearbook – Dare to Dream – is an inspiring and uplifting one. Indeed, I’m heartened by the school’s greater emphasis on encouraging students to pursue their hopes and dreams, big or small. There are countless stories of Brooksians from the past and present who embody this courage to dream – for instance, the tight-knit group of athletes from this year’s graduating cohort, who dared to dream of competing in Track and Field events at the National level; Mr Melvin Ang from the Class of 2004, who surmounted many personal challenges to fulfil his dream of setting up his own ramen restaurant; or, more recently, Hillary Heng Jia Xin from the Class of 2017, who worked extremely hard to achieve her dream of studying social work at a polytechnic. We all need a little support and encouragement to keep pursuing our dreams, or sometimes, we might even need some time to simply discover our passions and interests. This is why the SAC is committed to partner and collaborate with the school to help students to dare to dream of possibilities for the future, and to realise their hopes and dreams in life. To that end, the SAC works in collaboration and consultation with the Principal to discuss and plan ways we could enhance the educational experiences of the students, whether through vocational experiences or other means. Here, I would like to record a word of thanks to all the other SAC members who have played an important role by sharing their observations, comments and opinions, and contributing their time and resources to this end.

Even as students continue after completing their education in Northbrooks to chart their own paths towards their dreams, many continue to remember their roots, and are grateful to the ways that their Brooksian experience has shaped them. This was clearly evident in this year’s successful Homecoming event, which brought together a record number of past graduates who have walked through the school’s gates. It was organised by a group of dedicated alumni who dreamt of bringing past graduates together and fostering stronger bonds with their alma mater. I am pleased to know that behind all the successes and achievements, there is a team of very dedicated and professional administrative and teaching staff led by the Principal, Mr Nick Chan, who have all made tremendous contributions in teaching and nurturing the students with each passing academic year. Finally, I would like to congratulate Northbrooks on another successful year of nurturing and equipping Brooksians, so that they can embark on their own adventurous journeys towards their dreams.

Message from the Parent Support Group (PSG) Chairman

In 2018, when my son was posted to Northbrooks Secondary School, I was concerned about his transition to secondary school life. Keen to see how I could support him in his journey, my wife and I decided to join the PSG. Looking back over the past two years, being a part of the PSG has given me, and many other parents, multiple opportunities to bond with our children. We had great family bonding time when we came as a family to support the school events such as the Annual Cross Country Championships and the Brooksian Arts Festival & Talent Showcase, Father & Child Bonding workshop at Ground Up Initiative and NBrSS Performing Arts CCA Year-End Concert. This year, as the Chairman of the PSG, I told myself that we must bring the ‘Dads for Life’ programme to the next level, as I firmly believe in the importance of fostering stronger bonds between fathers and their children. I was glad that we saw a huge increase in the participation in Dads for Life activities, such as Learn to Fish @ ORTO and Archery Learn to Play. It was really heartening to see so much bonding and interaction at these events. Besides forging stronger bonds with our teens, we also strive to support parents to relate better with their teenage children. One of the crucial aspects of parenting is good communication, which is key to building good relationships between parents and their children. Not only that, I believe that the way parents communicate

with their children has a significant impact on how they will communicate in the future. The school regularly organises various parenting talks and workshops, such as the Triple P Parenting Seminars, to help us to better communicate and relate with our children. Not only that, members of the PSG go beyond supporting their own children, and contribute to a larger group of students in the school. This year, we supported many school events such as the Secondary One Registration, Parents Appreciation Day and the Open Breakfast Programme. The PSG believes that being supportive partners of the school will enable us to nurture our Brooksians to be contributors in the community. We look forward to more parents coming on board this partnership adventure to discover their strengths and help us to support Brooksians, as they grow from strength to strength. I hope more parents, especially fathers, can come and join PSG and journey these 4 or 5 years with our teens.

The Beginning Northbrooks Secondary School started at the dawn of a new millennium on 2 January 2000 with eight Secondary 1 classes. Built at a cost of over $23 million, the school is fully-equipped with IT facilities and is set amidst the beautiful natural surroundings of Yishun Park. The school is united in its desire to do its very best for its students and to prepare them for the future knowledge-based workplace. Besides developing their capacity to learn, the school also focuses on building the character of its students and helping them to develop compassion for others. The name Northbrooks is derived from the Yuan Dynasty proverb 饮水思源. This is one of the core moral values inculcated in all Brooksians: to always remember their roots and to be grateful to their family, teachers, friends and country for the success they achieve in life.

Just as WATER is the basis of life, as a school, we will provide a nurturing and challenging environment, to inspire our pupils to learn and grow.

Just as TREES like Aspens and Giant Redwoods grow in groves supporting each other with their roots intertwined, people too are connected by a system of roots (our family and friends). As teachers, we always wonder: Beyond the grades, how do we know our students are learning? How have we made a difference to their learning? - MRS RITA TEO (School Staff Developer)

Executive and administrative staff and the operations support officers learn about becoming service design thinkers to better serve our school community. This is part of their professional development journey to deepen their understanding of service excellence.

Our bi-annual learning festivals bring together all teaching staff to celebrate the joy of learning with and from one another. Besides learning about interesting facilitation strategies from knowledgeable peers, the project experiences offered by every professional learning team also deepen our collaborative inquiry as a professional learning community.

Staff develop their intellectual capacity and bounce innovative ideas off one another at a Knowledge Café session. These sessions allow both key personnel and staff to engage in meaningful and deep conversations to expand their understanding of emerging global trends, so as to develop better leaders and classroom innovators.

As the keynote speaker at Hougang Secondary School’s Learning Festival, Mr Ng Song Beng (Lead Teacher, Mathematics) shares about the school’s open and peer observations. Our teacher leaders actively seek out opportunities to share good school practices with other schools and gain learning insights from them.

Book characters come to life during the ELLF, as staff and students come dressed as all kinds of book and movie characters, from Iron Man to Pikachu.

For the third year running, Brooksians do their bit for the less fortunate by taking part in the Read For Books charity drive. For every 10 people who read for 15 minutes, one book was donated to charity by a sponsor.

Nur Syaura Qistina Bte Yahya [L] and Edwin Huang Jingkai [R] (4E) closely examine an exhibit at the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City. As part of the overseas learning journey to Vietnam, our History students saw the interpretation of the Vietnam War through the eyes of the local Vietnamese.

Happy faces of both our visitors from Tran Van On Junior High School, and our Champion Brooksians. We hosted our Vietnamese friends in school to return the hospitality they showed us. We shared the experience of scaling the Northbrooks rockwall with them.

Secondary One students peer intently at their iPad to complete their Geographical Investigation task. The Geography team designed a learning experience that was conducted at the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park as part of the Secondary One Level Camp, where students examined how the various features of the park affected the quality of the reservoir water.

Pails away! Students obtain water samples from the reservoir, as the park becomes their classroom and the topic of ‘Water Resources’ comes to life.

Hosting the Vietnamese guests was truly memorable. They were really friendly and open in sharing their stories with us. It was an eye-opening experience for me as I enjoy getting to know people from around the world. - ALEXIS

Secondary One students focus on a presentation by a guide at The Bicentennial Experience – the main exhibition commemorating Singapore’s 200 years of history. History teachers also crafted a learning experience for students to make the links between the exhibition and the learning of History more explicit.

Guess who this teacher is? Not only did Mrs Sasidharan Indra Devi (Lead Teacher, History) lead a team of students through the learning experience at The Bicentennial Experience, she was also a guide at the exhibition for members of the public!

On behalf of his team, Artiaga Tan Ren Lennard (3I) delivers a speech during a Moot Parliament Session, conceptualised by the Social Studies team to better engage our students in examining the issue on foreign labour in Singapore.

The students proudly display their mini cakes, ready to be judged by the judges. The theme of the competition was ‘Space Adventures’. “We showed teamwork by helping one another when we encountered challenges such as getting the decorations right on the mini cakes,” said Belden [R].

Brooksians and Tomeikan Junior High school students and teachers with their beautiful ondeh-ondehs at the Spice Garden, located outside the Culinary Lab, where the pandan leaves, one of the ingredients used to make the local kueh, are planted. It was a memorable activity as part of the Tomeikan-Northbrooks Exchange.

The Secondary Three Food and Nutrition (F&N) students prepare to deep fry chicken for the protein challenge. Mohammad Noor’Izwan B Abdullah (3E) shared, “I usually love to eat fried chicken, but frying chicken for my loved ones to eat is a totally different experience.”

This activity was part of the Secondary Three Express Mathematics Trail, which was organised for students to apply mathematical concepts and skills to solve real-world problems.

Students have some fun playing Monopoly together. In addition to the gameplay, the learning journey allowed students to improve their social skills as the game emphasised the importance of cooperation and good sportsmanship.

Normal Technical (NT) Programme 1

They made the best out of the situation and the rain actually made the experience more memorable for everyone!

Secondary One to Four NT students participate in a cohort dragon boating activity as part of the termly NT camp. This activity provides students with the opportunity to strengthen relationships and to also develop fortitude and teamwork.

After the dragon boating activity, the heavy rain does little to dampen the studentsâ€™ high spirits.

2D students work together with Mr Eng Sze Shean and Mr Sanjay Radakrishna to plant a tree in school. This Values-inAction activity taught students about the importance of caring for the environment through a hands-on approach.

Students from 4D visit a children orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City to learn about the effects of war on the Vietnamese people. “I felt a great sense of empathy towards the children and understood the importance of peace and harmony in a country. It made me appreciate Singapore even more,” said Muhammad Rafiqin B Roomaizan.

Advanced Elective Modules (AEM) 1

20 Secondary Two and Three Express students pose for a photo while attending the “A Day In The Life Of An Air-Traffic Controller” module held at Republic Polytechnic. This AEM helped these students better understand airport systems and structures.

As part of the module, students worked together to plan and design their ideal airport. The AEM experience also provided students with an opportunity to work together in teams, share ideas and to accommodate the views of others in their projects.

To gain greater insight into airport management, students also embarked on a learning journey to Changi Airport to understand how it was run.

After hours of planning and discussion, this group of students pose with their final airport design.

Another group of Secondary Three students had a memorable experience at KF1 Karting Circuit as part of the Insights Programme where students gained a better understanding of various industries.

Ding Zhao Yang (3E) positions his camera strategically to capture the best angle of various food dishes, during his 1-week internship at Successpedia, where he learnt more about the advertising industry. His photos were subsequently used in an article about the famous dishes found at Old Airport Road Food Centre.

Eager to learn more about the beauty and wellness industry, Yee Mon Oo (3T) tries her hand at hair-washing, during her internship at Mirror’D International College. “I learned that a seemingly simple task such as hair-washing is actually very challenging, as you have to ensure that the customer has a comfortable experience throughout,” shared Yee Mon.

Overseas Immersion Trip to Vietnam 1

I hope that we brought a smile to their faces. This experience affected me greatly as I learned to show kindness to the less fortunate.

Japan Twinning Programme (Tomeikan) 1

In line with the Ministry of Education’s digital literacy plan, through this workshop, students were exposed to computational thinking skills to perform short missions and compete in robotic soccer competition.

In a cross-cultural twinning programme, Brooksians and their Japanese buddies from Tomeikan Junior High visited the Singapore Maritime Gallery to learn more about Singapore’s history. Here, they are looking at the artefacts that dated from the 14th Century.

Led by the student councillors, Secondary One students let loose and unleash their dance moves as they practised for the mass dance in the school hall.

Supportive and eager parents whip out their smartphones to capture moments of their children’s journey. “When I saw my daughter having fun with her new classmates during the orientation, she looked very excited and lively. I felt very pleased and relieved that she has already made friends in school,” said the parent of Erra Suhazliyah Bte Ramlee (1F).

Lo Hong Kai (1I) finally reaches the finish line, successfully completing the 3.7km race. “I was extremely happy to come in 8th place as I did not even expect to be in the top 20 for my level. I learnt that it is important to give my best regardless of the odds,” Hong Kai beamed.

I had to work with new people and I learnt that it is not easy to come up with a solution that pleases everybody. Special Pull-Out and Re-integration (SOaR) Programme 1

The Ultimate Frisbee Sports Programme, which was conducted weekly for selected students, aims to encourage them to lead an active lifestyle and inculcate self-discipline.

Students de-stress after a long day in school by coming in with their friends and playing their favourite games on the PlayStation 4. Students are encouraged to show graciousness by limiting their playing time so that others can get a chance to play too.

We worked as a whole class to come up with a long dragon so that most of my classmates could join in the dragon dance. It was fun and I feel that we bonded together as a class and depicted the value in our class name - Teamwork! - MUHAMAD NUR ZULHUSNI (4T) [2nd from left]

I had a great time performing with my CCA teammates, especially since it is my last year here in Northbrooks. I am glad to be a part of this performance as I got to learn more about the Malay culture.

A Brooksian project showcases the collective work of storyboards by Secondary 2 5 classes for the Inter-class Storyboard Competition. The vibrant and informative bicentennial exhibition tells the stories and events of Singapore’s history for over 200 years.

Sports competitions 1

3 Mid-air challenge between players from Secondary 3G and 3I during the preliminary round of the Secondary 3 Inter-Class Volleyball Competition. The matches for both boys and girls teams were played on 22 May.

Deserving Champions of the Secondary 3 Inter-Class Volleyball Competition (Boys) on 22 May. The 3D team planned several practice sessions to improve on the skills that they learnt during PE lessons.

Intense football match played between the girls teams from 4G and 4E. The match was played during the Secondary 4 Inter-Class Football Competition on 18 July. For the first time, the competition also catered to Girlsâ€™ teams so that the girls could demonstrate the skills they picked up during PE.

Northbrooks Representatives for the N6 Cluster Frisbee Competition during the Health Fiesta at Yio Chu Kang Secondary School on 7 April. The team was formed by students from Secondary 2 Empathy who had practiced as a team during PE lessons.

The match was a good platform to display camaraderie between the staff and student teams. There was sportsmanship and great joy as we enjoyed the company and the opportunity to have fun together. We certainly showed a different side of teachers to the students during the game.

Teachers’ Day Celebration 1

Northbrooks’ teachers recite the Teachers’ Pledge and renew their dedication and commitment to the teaching service. “Reciting the Teachers’ Pledge affirms my belief and passion that teaching is heart work, and it is a reminder to myself to be the best teacher I can be to my students,” said Mr Sanjay s/o Radakrishna [centre].

Mr Muhammad brings the house down with his rendition of ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ by Britney Spears in the game show, Don’t Forget the Lyrics’. “I felt extremely surprised and entertained by this segment of the concert, especially by Mr Muhammad’s spontaneity!” chirped Belden Tan Liat Hong (3T), one of the students in the audience.

With wide grins across their faces, teachers in Northbrooks participate actively in the Great Singapore Workout, one they are familiar with from their childhood memories.

Secondary 3F students play a round of ‘Blow Wind Blow’ as part of the Form Teachers Appreciation segment with their form teacher, Ms Kerina Tan. “I enjoyed the game segment that my class planned!” she exclaimed.

School Tour @ Northbrooks 1

Neo Yu Xuan Amaris Lois (3F) [R] exudes confidence as a leader as she shares with the parents of Primary Six students on how the school’s Opus Magnum room is used to showcase Brooksian’s stained glass pieces. “This tour has helped me to understand Northbrooks better and developed my leadership skills. I have also become a confident speaker after leading the tour for the parents and students,” said Amaris.

Showing his pride as a Brooksian, Ding Zhao Yang (3E) [R] introduces the school’s Applied Leaning Programme - Aerospace to a parent. All Brooksians attend ALP lessons when they are in Lower Secondary. “Leading the tour has helped me to build my confidence in public speaking. I have also learnt the importance of adapting to the needs of the different audience and I customise the tour accordingly,” said Zhao Yang.

Drama Club 1

Dramalites celebrate the successful staging of their play at this year’s Singapore Youth Festival (SYF), titled ‘Not Enough’. The play, inspired by their own real life experiences and dilemmas as teenagers, clinched the Certificate of Accomplishment.

During the rehearsals for the SYF, Holmberg Glennis (1T) [centre] took on the assistant stage manager role for the first time. She said, “I was feeling nervous even though I was just standing in for the rehearsal, because it was the first time I was on stage and my role was important to ensure that the rehearsal goes smoothly.”

Belden Tan Liat Hong (3T) [L], Vice-President of Drama Club, rehearses with his juniors who are performing in school for the first time for the National Day celebrations. He said, “It was an honour to perform at a school event.”

Prior to the final performance for the year, the Dramalites went on a learning journey to dive into the world of puppetry. Excited about the workshop, Amirul Rifqi B Maszrudean (3I) [centre], President of Drama Club, said, “It is a good experience for all of us to learn a skill that not many of us know. It is also a time for us to bond.”

Dramalites are all smiles after their final public performance for the year, a puppetry piece devised by the students titled “The Attitude of Gratitude”. The performance was part of the Community Film & Theatre Festival at Radin Mas Community Centre. Victoria Tan Si Qi (2D) [centre, in orange], played the main role as a ‘live puppet’.

It was quite stressful but fun seeing how the performance came along and how the puppets were being made. I was also happy that my family and teachers came to watch and support us for the show. - VICTORIA YEARBOOK • 2019

The Sec 5 students put in such commendable effort for SYF. They only had 3 months to learn and practice the songs while their juniors had learnt and practised for almost a year. They were great role models who inspired their juniors.

The Guzheng Ensemble plays festival songs during the Chinese New Year Concert, captivating the audience with their music.

Koo Jia En (3G) [L] teaches students from other CCAs how to play a simple guzheng tune during the Visual and Performing Arts CCA Camp. “Teaching others is really interesting and it’s helped to build up my confidence,” she said.

Dancers use movement and facial expressions to convey happy and carefree emotions, during their performance on Speech Day. Environmental Art Club (EAC) 1

The entire Badminton team gathers for a barbecue session in school, to send off the graduating students. It was a bittersweet moment as the seniors bid farewell to the school team.

Led by Claire Aviles Raneses (3G), the girls from the ‘B’ Division team warm up before the start of the North Zone Badminton Tournament, preparing to fight hard in their matches against other schools.

After a friendly match with Woodlands Ring Secondary School (WRSS), the boys’ team players from both sides shake hands and applaud each other’s efforts, in a show of sportsmanship.

‘C’ division floorballers cheer on their teammates, along with other Brooksian supporters. The ‘C’ division boys successfully made it to Round 2 of the National School Games ‘C’ Division Floorball Competition.

Our ‘B’ division boys went to Penang for a cultural immersion trip, where they took part in a number of friendly games, including one with the Penang State Team.

After a gruelling competition period, the team enjoys a hearty bonding time with food, no less. The team believes firmly in the quote, “Work hard and play hard.” All smiles!

Red Cross Youth (RCY) 1

Through this programme, we aim to promote mutual understanding and international friendship between the youths of both countries. To welcome them, we planned a series of activities to showcase our Singaporean and Brooksian experiences. - MR SANJAY RADAKRISHNA (Teacher-in-charge)

Amber Chua Yi Ting (2T) leads her fellow cadets at the CCA’s PassingOut Parade and Promotion Ceremony. “It was certainly a proud moment to be part of the Passing-Out-Parade where we honour and appreciate our graduating seniors for their dedication and hardwork. They have shown us how to serve and also displayed integrity and fortitude in their relentless efforts to guide us juniors,” said Amber.

RCY cadets beam with pride after conducting their inaugural Blood Donation Drive held in school. Medical professionals came to help with the operations of the blood donation drive which saw Brooksians as well as the public coming forward to donate blood.

School leaders, School Advisory Committee (SAC) members, and Parent Support Group members welcome the Guest of Honour, Mr Melvin Ang (Class of 2004) [5th from left]. This year’s theme, ‘Soaring Yet Rooted’, is also our school motto. It acknowledges the generations of Brooksian alumni who, like Melvin, have grown into individuals who have taken flight and achieved success in their own ways, while rooted in values.

Members of the different Uniformed Groups collaborate with the Youth Flying Club to produce the Emergency Preparedness Performance, which highlighted how the different groups each play an important role in Singapore’s security and defence.

During the Emergency Preparedness Performance, Siti Rahmah Bte Hamran (4G) plays the role of the Red Cross Youth and collects additional first aid supplies that were flown in via a drone during the crisis.

Valerie Tan Yun Qian (4D) proudly displays the token of appreciation that she co-created with her art teacher, Ms Diana.

4I students listen intently to the speech given by their class chairperson. “It was a heartwarming moment to give my appreciation to my classmates and teachers who have journeyed with me through secondary school,” said Zenneth Tay, Chairperson of 4I.

Class leaders of 4T, Eryyan Shah Khan B Mohamed Z [L] and Ong Jun Xiang [R] give their heartfelt speeches to the 4NA cohort. Jun Xiang said, “The memories that we made with our class will always have a special place in our hearts.”

A sweet surprise ice-cream treat! “I’m so happy to share in the excitement of the Secondary 4 graduation day, and so very proud of them, too!” said Mrs Celine Goh, who has been the Form Teacher of 4D since they were in Secondary One.

The 4 Express / 5 Normal (Academic) cohort gathers in the Brooks for a celebratory photo. “I truly believe that the Brooksian core values that have been instilled in me will continue to guide me as I move on to another phase of my life,” said Ng Hong Yew Glenn (5G). Glenn was promoted to the Normal (Academic) stream after Secondary One and went on to take his ‘O’ Levels in Secondary Five.
