Northbrooks’ Story The Beginning
思源
Northbrooks Secondary School started at the dawn of a new millennium on 2 January 2000 with eight Secondary 1 classes. Built at a cost of over $23 million, the school is fully-equipped with IT facilities and is set amidst the beautiful natural surroundings of Yishun Park. The school is united in its desire to do its very best for its students and to prepare them for the future knowledge-based workplace. Besides developing their capacity to learn, the School also focuses on building the character of its students and helping them to develop compassion for others. The name Northbrooks is derived from the Yuan Dynasty proverb 饮水思源. This is one of the core moral values inculcated in all Brooksians: to always remember their roots and to be grateful to their family, teachers, friends and country for the success they achieve in life.
The Brooksian Crest
Just as WATER is the basis of life, the school will provide a nurturing and challenging environment to inspire all Brooksians to learn and grow. Just as TREES like Aspens and Giant Redwoods grow in groves supporting one another with their roots intertwined, people too are connected by a system of roots (our family and friends). When pounded by the storms of life, we need to hold one another up; like the Oak with their deep, penetrating roots, the school will build a strong foundation of moral values in all Brooksians so that they will have the moral courage to make the right choices in life; like the Oak spreading their branches to provide shelter and nesting place for birds, the school will provide opportunities for Brooksians to develop their talents and abilities to the fullest, so that they in turn can reach out to touch the lives of others. GOLD Background With a firm foundation in moral values to guide their thinking, Brooksians will have the confidence to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world. They will be well-balanced individuals, anchored by strong roots and equipped with wings to soar to great heights to achieve their dreams with integrity; and they will become people with values, of value to their community and to the nation.
The Brooksian Vision
Every Brooksian A Champion, Impacting the Community.
The Brooksian Mission
To empower Brooksians to develop a passion for learning, strong moral values and a keen sense of duty and community.

Brooksian Anthem With Brooksian fervour Lift up our voices Each day a new beginning Let hearts be open With hopes arising Our promise don’t deny. We’re friends who offer compassion Whatever the circumstance With fortitude we will overcome Be strong, be true, be free! Reach for tomorrow Take hold our future Let’s building a brighter new day We’re soaring, yet rooted Take flight And see our hopes and dreams come true Our fears to conquer Stand tall Discover who we are and more Making champions of us all Volatilis tamen radicalis O see our dreams come true Our fears to conquer Stand tall Discover who we are and more Making champions of us all Making champions for us all!

NORTHBROOKS SECONDARY SCHOOL
From the Principal’s Desk To everything, there is a season … A time to gain, and a time to lose A time to keep, and a time to cast away. For each of us, 2014 was a season of experiences, moments and memories the record of which this book is reason Joys bygone, savoured in reveries. Seeking always something to be gained Even in losses, learning has a place Though deeply troubled and sorely pained The spirit triumphs in the champion’s race. Dear Brooksians, Here in this place, we grow champions. Each one here has the potential for growth although not all are destined to grow at the same pace. Planted in Northbrooks, we must unceasingly strive to better ourselves, or else we cannot hope to bloom in Graciousness, Integrity, Fortitude, Teamwork, Empathy and Discipline. This has been a good year for Brooksian champions. Ever seeking to teach better so that our students can learn better, our teachers dare to experiment with new pedagogies and are generous in sharing resources and good practices with one another, with colleagues in other schools and even with colleagues in our twinning school in Changsha, China. We have done well in Mathematics, Science, English and Mother Tongue Language competitions. Our CCAs too, have shone, some even setting the standard for national and inter-school competitions. In celebration of talent this year, Northbrooks staged its Brooksian Talent Showcase for the performing arts and its inaugural Visual Arts Exhibition, to the delight of parents. Holistic development of the Brooksian champion remains key. With the objective of developing social conscience in Brooksian champions, opportunities are provided to students to impact the community in different ways. We collaborated with our long-term community partners in Arts Outreach projects and in our Values-in-Action programme and sought to meet the needs of beneficiaries in our ServiceLearning endeavours. Recognised for its consistent effort in being responsible to the environment, Northbrooks received its fourth Sustained Lotus Award from the National Environment Agency. We celebrate also our student leaders, who are the voice of their peers and who have modelled the way in showing what responsibility to the school environment means. In the fourth term, we welcomed our second Vice Principal, Mr Ng Aik Boon, to the Brooksian fraternity. We look forward to working with him to take Northbrooks further in our journey towards excellence. Move forward we must, be it in small steps or great strides, for in staying still, we risk being left behind. Let us not be content to rest on our laurels. Onward, Brooksian Champions! An exciting 2015 awaits us. Blessings, Mrs Helen Chong Principal
