Greetings Chemin de Fer Enthusiasts, We are so excited to present this year’s Chemin de Fer! Chemin, whether online or in person, is a great opportunity for friends of the Academy to gather and celebrate all that we love about our school and all that we hope for its future. We are more than ready for a cause to celebrate! So pull out your best lederhosen or dirndl, don your evening wear or enjoy the event in comfy casual attire- all are welcome aboard the Academy train. Just as with any travel, make sure you review the Virtual Chemin de Fer Book so that you can make the most of the experience. It is going to be an exciting week online as we ready ourselves to travel to the Swiss Alps and preview the auction items. Let us also express our gratitude to Chemin Chairs Cortney and Steve Pearce and Co-Chairs Dana and Tom Burns who along with many wonderful volunteers have planned every detail of this virtual journey. A special note of gratitude goes out to our Special Events Coordinator, Anna Godfrey ’07, for her vision and drive to bring our auction to the online environment. Our gratitude for their hard work can be best expressed through enthusiastic bidding that will deliver the hoped-for success they envision at the conclusion of this Chemin journey. Thank You from the Chairs Welcome to the 2020 Virtual Chemin de Fer Experience! We are so excited to present this year’s online auction with you. This evening we will all be enjoying the auction from the comfort of our own homes. While the venue is certainly different, the goal is still the same! We will still get to see firsthand the generosity and heart that our school is built upon. We will still enjoy the camaraderie of coming together for one worthy cause. We will still make this a Chemin to remember because we are the Academy of the Sacred Heart. There are so many people to thank for planning, implementing, and supporting a successful Chemin! First, we would like to thank Anna Godfrey, Nora Brooks, Will Yates, and the Advancement and Business offices for their dedication and hard work preparing for Chemin. It is through their support and guidance, pulling off such an important event seems more fun than work. Next, we would like to thank all of our Chemin Committee members. Chemin is a big commitment and takes so many willing and creative volunteers. Although for some of the committees, we don’t get to see the fruits of your labor online, we know how much pre-planning and effort went into taking us on a train ride through the Swiss Alps! A special thank you to the committees that worked to take this journey to the virtual platform. We sincerely appreciate all of your work! Finally, we would like to thank the Administration, Faculty and Staff for all of your support. Your words of encouragement, fund-raising, and ever-present positivity make this celebration what it is. AC ADEM Y T UI T ION A SSISTANCE PROGR AM I am a child of the Sacred Heart…Across the Network of Sacred Heart Schools our youngest students offer this daily prayer… I am a child of the Sacred Heart. Each day, dear Lord, I will love as You love, study and learn, help those who need me, be a friend to all and make wise choices. Saint Madeleine Sophie, hear my prayer, Saint Rose Philippine, hear my prayer. Amen. From this simplest of prayers, our children begin to learn about the Goals associated with their Sacred Heart education. They learn it is not enough to just be smart. It is not enough to just believe in God-- it is important to put one’s faith into action by helping those in need. It is not enough to hope for something for yourself-- but rather hope should be shared with others through the act of generous friendship. They learn that they will be faced with choices across their lifetime and that is important to consider the outcome of those choices. Our students are on the path to becoming…each day they grow in their readiness to fulfill the purpose that God has established for each. We all are ultimately the beneficiaries of their faith, intellect and service. The 2020 Fund-The-Need focuses our attention on the Academy’s Tuition Assistance Program and the support it offers deserving students and their families. Through that support, the dream of an exceptional education for their child becomes possible for families demonstrating need. Specifically, Tuition Assistance helps bridge the gap between the price of a year’s tuition and that which a family can realistically afford to pay. Now more than ever, the need for our support of Tuition Assistance is evident. It all starts with “I am a child of the Sacred Heart.” Please support this year’s Fund-The-Need by doing so you will help to support the great start that leads to so many wonderful opportunities. 14
