Welcome to the NBA Newsletter Your Monthly Circle to the Noosaville Business Community
Welcome to the 2027 NBA Committee
Meet the team leading the Noosaville Business Association into another strong year. What a way to close the NBA calendar year. A strong turnout marked the Noosaville Business Association’s 2026 Annual General Meeting, followed by Business After Five at Land & Sea Brewery, where members gathered to welcome the new committee and reflect on a year of solid progress. It has been an impressive year for the association. Across 13 events in total — four Business Over Brews coffee connects, two luncheons, six Business After Five evenings, and the Noosaville Activation Workshop — the NBA delivered consistent opportunities for local businesses to connect, collaborate and grow. Three grants from Noosa Council, together with Noosa Twilight, helped support activity across the precinct, and a special thank you goes to Sunshine Coast Music and Events for their support of the Activation Plan. The first stage of the NBA Strategic Plan is now complete, and the association closed the 2026 AGM with more than 80 financial members — a clear sign of the strength and engagement of the Noosaville business community. Thank you to the eight outgoing committee members for the time, energy and expertise you have given the association. In particular, a big thank you to Jasmin Holmes (Cleantech Network) and Hamish McGrath (Ablebuild Constructions) for their contributions over the past year. We wish them both every success in their future endeavours and look forward to seeing them at future NBA networking events.

commitment to doing things properly. She and Jay also enjoy travelling together when they can. What inspired you to join the NBA Committee? I’ve been a member of the NBA for over 16 years. Back then, apart from Tourism Noosa, it was the biggest and busiest networking group in the area. I joined to meet other local businesses and to build stronger relationships with our clients.
Meet the 2026/2027 Committee
Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I made for the business. In Noosa, it often comes down to who you know as much as what you know. Those connections, combined with a focus on good service, played a big part in our growth. The NBA has been a real support along the way. What do you love most about Noosaville? What’s not to love? The river, the atmosphere, the food, and the people - it all makes Noosaville a special place. When you look at the wider Noosa region, Noosaville stands out as the busy hub. It’s home to a great mix of restaurants, shops, places to stay, cafes, art galleries, and all kinds of service and trade businesses.
President
From the relaxed feel of Gympie Terrace and the areas behind the Foreshore, to the busy Industrial Precinct and the Marina - with Tewantin right next door - Noosaville has a bit of everything. Whether you live here or you’re visiting, it really does have a lot to offer.

certified specialist that helps small and medium businesses move to the cloud without the headaches.
Nicky cares about doing good work and supporting the local community. She’s active in business networks and enjoys connecting with other local business owners. She’s also been a strong voice for women in the pest control industry. She started the Women in Australian Pest Management Association and set up the industry’s first recognition awards for women. This came from her own experiences and her desire to make the industry more welcoming and supportive for women. Nicky co-hosts the podcast Pestie Profiles with Jay. It shares practical pest advice and industry stories and has been downloaded more than 47,000 times. What she’s most proud of, though, is being a mum to her three adult kids. Two of them now work in the business with her and Jay. Laguna Pest Control is a true family business, built on hard work, passion, and a shared
About Mathew Mathew Hoffman is the founder of Cloud Computer Company, an Australian Google Workspace
He has worked in IT since 1981, holding senior technology and management roles at the State Bank of NSW, Minet Australia, Wilhelmsen Lines and Rothmans of Pall Mall. A career highlight was working on the IT infrastructure for the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Mathew has run his own consultancy since 2001, and became one of Australia's original Google Partners in 2008. He rebranded the business as Cloud Computer Company in 2017, focusing entirely on cloud technology and business communications. A long term resident of Noosa, his approach is deliberately personal and founder-led: when clients call, they get Mathew and a team who already know their business, not a ticket number. Away from work, Mathew is an active Surf Patrol member at Sunshine Beach and has been known to strum a ukulele. He played and coached cricket for many years in Sydney and on the Sunshine Coast, and still spends plenty of time with family, at the beach and on the golf
course. What inspired you to join the NBA Committee? Having operated a business locally for many years, I value building strong connections with fellow business owners. I also believe it is important to give back to the community. The Noosaville Business Association does meaningful work for our local commercial ecosystem, deciding to get involved an easy one. What do you love most about Noosaville? An early morning walk along the river with my wife and dog. It's quiet, the air's fresh, and you'll usually get a nod from a few familiar faces. Simple, but it's a good way to start the day.

business owners and give back to the community that I’m proud to be part of. I’m excited to be involved and play a small part in helping local businesses grow and succeed. I love that you can’t go far without seeing someone you know, whether it’s along the river, grabbing a coffee or at one of our amazing local restaurants. It has such a genuine community feel, and I feel very lucky to call it home.

Committee Member Cheryl Lacey Pertot & Co Mortgage Brokers About Cheryl Cheryl moved to Noosa in 1993 and owned and managed Davo’s Bait and Tackle on Gympie Terrace along the Noosa River until 2012. During this time, she sponsored and supported numerous community groups, received several Noosa Tourism awards, initiated the “Take a Kid Fishing” program, and hosted multiple episodes of Rex Hunt’s Fishing television series filmed in and around the Noosa region. Cheryl and her family have a strong connection to Noosaville, the Noosa River, and the local community and lifestyle, which has provided an ideal environment in which to raise a family. A member of the Noosaville Business Association since 1999, Cheryl has worked to promote the area as a family-oriented tourist destination on the Noosa River. Following 15 years with Bank of Queensland Noosa, she is now semi-retired and is honoured to serve on the Association’s committee, continuing to support local businesses as a representative of Pertot & Co Mortgage Brokers. What inspired you to join the NBA Committee? Having been one of the original founders who helped establish the Noosaville Business Association back in 2000, my connection to the NBA has always run deep. Over the years I have seen firsthand how a strong, united business community can help promote Noosaville and the Noosa River as a wonderful family-oriented destination. After some time away, the opportunity to return to the committee filled me with heaps of excitement. I am passionate about supporting local businesses and contributing once again to the area that my family and I love so much. It is a privilege to be back, working alongside fellow members to continue the vision we started all those years ago. What do you love most about Noosaville? I have a deep love for Noosaville and the Noosa River. For my family and me, this has always been home — a beautiful place with a strong sense of community and a lifestyle that is hard to match. The river, the local atmosphere, and the feeling of belonging make it the perfect place to to be part of something special. Even after all these years, that connection remains just as strong.
Committee Member Therese Kosmer ZECURA Smart Living About Therese With a career history as an experienced business and government leader, and more recently as a business owner
with multiple ventures, Therese understands both what is happening at the global and national scale of business, and also the challenges, opportunities and realities for small business. As Head of Strategy and Growth at ZECURA Smart Living, a local business that delivers the luxury home experience, she is always curious about the dreams and aspirations people have for the luxury living experience of their home and making it possible. What inspired you to join the NBA Committee? Noosaville is a special place. It has such a creative, diverse and welcoming business community. The events that NBA deliver are a wonderful way to for the local business community to come together in a relaxed setting, have fun, develop friendships, and build a network of support - which is so important as a small business owner. What inspired me in particular is that the events are always something to look forward to because they feel like catching up with friends rather than traditional business networking. What do you love most about Noosaville? It's hard to pick just one, can I say two? Meeting with friends on Gympie Terrace to hang out with the pelicans, enjoy the energy and atmosphere of the walkers, runners, people meeting for a social catchup, happy dogs, and the quiet steady motion of the Noosa River. You can't have a bad day when you have a takeaway affogato from across the road and are contemplating the world while taking all the happy energy in. What makes it really special are the small businesses that line the terrace. As you meander down it has an almost European feel with all the alfresco cafes and boutiques, experienced in the quintessential laid back way Noosaville is so well known for. My other favourite is showing people the artisan trail of Noosaville. There are so many innovative, creative, luxurious and delicious local product offerings secreted away in every street that make the hide-andseek experience of Noosaville so special.
Committee Member Jesca Maas The Event Artisan About Jesca Jesca Maas is the Founder and Festival Director of the Noosa International Surfilm Festival (NISFF), and director
of event management business The Event Artisan. Jesca has called Noosa home for more than a decade. Before that, she founded the Yallingup Surfilm Festival in Western Australia in 2010 and 2012, one of the most successful surf film platforms of its time. In 2023 she brought the concept to Noosa, and NISFF has just completed its third year: three days of surf and ocean films from Australia and around the world, with premieres, filmmaker Q&As, a legends panel and a growing calendar of festival gatherings. The 2026 festival drew 52 film submissions from more than a dozen countries. Through The Event Artisan, Jesca brings over eight years of industry experience to film and music festivals, community events and private celebrations, backed by a postgraduate degree in Arts and Entertainment Management from Deakin University. Jesca is passionate about events that bring people together and drive visitors to local businesses. Through the Festival Perks program, NISFF already partners with local dining and accommodation providers, and she looks forward to building more of these connections on the Committee. When she’s not planning events, you’ll find her at Doggy Beach with her two dogs, or at home in her little piece of paradise at Noosa North Shore. What inspired you to join the NBA Committee? I love what the Noosaville Business Association is becoming, and I share its vision of bringing Noosaville’s business people together to connect, mentor one another and grow our businesses. Networking events are at the heart of the Association, and that’s exactly where my passion lies. Creating events that bring people together is what I do every day, and I’m excited to put that experience to work for our local business community. What do you love most about Noosaville? The river, of course. It’s beautiful, and it has a wonderful way of bringing people together. I also love the variety of businesses here, from industrial and retail to hospitality and the creative industries. There’s a real energy in having so many different kinds of business side by side.

NOTEBOOKLM: the AI that only answers from your own documents
Most AI tools answer from the whole internet, which means they can be confidently wrong. Google's NotebookLM works the other way round, and that makes it genuinely useful for local business. Upload your documents (Google Docs, PDFs, web links, even videos) and NotebookLM becomes an expert on exactly those documents. Ask it a question and it answers only from what you gave it, with a citation pointing back to the source every time. No guessing, no invention, no

trawling through folders yourself. For a small business, that turns the shoebox of PDFs, policies, quotes and meeting notes most of us sit on into something you can actually interrogate.
What it does well
Summarise and interrogate. Drop in a 40-page contract and ask "what are the payment terms?" or "what happens if either party terminates early?"
Compare documents. Load two supplier quotes and ask where they differ.
Brief the boss. Paste a stack of research links and get a grounded briefing with references.
Get across the paperwork. Load up a grant guideline PDF or an industry code of practice and ask it what actually applies to you, with the page cited.
Audio Overviews. It turns your sources into a podcast-style audio discussion you can listen to on the school run. Sounds like a gimmick until you try it on a stack of reports.
The key point: NotebookLM does not make things up from general knowledge. If your documents do not contain the answer, it says so.
What about privacy? The question every business owner should ask about any AI tool. With NotebookLM, your uploaded documents are not used to train Google's AI models, in any version of the product. And for Google Workspace customers
it runs as a core Workspace service, under the same enterprise-grade data protections and admin controls as the rest of your Workspace.
Getting started NotebookLM is free with a Google account, and Workspace users get it as part of what they already pay for. Start small: one notebook, a handful of documents you know well, then test it with questions whose answers you already know. That is the fastest way to see how well it cites.
How to find it Go to notebooklm.google.com and sign in with your Google account, the same one you use for Gmail. Click + New notebook, then add your sources: upload files from your computer, pick documents straight from Google Drive, paste in web links, or paste text. Once your sources are in, just start typing questions in the chat box. There is nothing to install and no setup beyond that.
Worth trying first Make a notebook from your business's own policies and procedures, then ask it the questions your staff ask you most. It is a surprisingly good first line of support for your own team.

What’s happening in the Noosa property market this Spring?
How are we almost halfway through Spring already!? This is traditionally one of the busier times of year for property, and there’s certainly plenty happening across the Noosa region. But if you’ve been following the headlines, you might be wondering what’s actually happening with property prices. The short answer? It depends where you look. While some of Australia’s major property markets have started to cool, the Noosa region is showing a much more mixed picture. Some suburbs are still recording solid annual growth, while higher-value areas have started to see prices come back from recent highs. For example, the latest available suburb data from Realestate.com shows: Tewantin – median house price of $1.27m, up 9.7% over the past 12 months. Cooroy – median house price of approximately $1.24m, up 17.7% over the past 12 months. Peregian Beach – median house price of $1.95m, up 13% over the past 12 months.
Noosaville – median house price of around $2.0m, broadly flat over the Written by Tayla Phipps past 12 months. Noosa Heads – median house price MPF Home Loans of approximately $2.03m, down 19.6% over the past 12 months. That gives us a pretty good example of why “the property market” isn't one single market. What’s happening in Noosa Heads can look very different to what’s happening in Tewantin or Cooroy. And even within the same suburb, the result can vary significantly depending on the property type, price point and location. Interest rates are back in the spotlight There’s been a big change on the interest rate front. At its September meeting, the Reserve Bank of Australia increased the cash rate by 0.25% to 4.60%. That takes the cash rate to its highest level since 2011. The next RBA decision is scheduled for 3 November 2026, with the minutes from the September meeting due to be released on 13 October. So, understandably, there’s plenty of discussion about
whether we could see another rate rise before the end of the year. The answer is: nobody knows yet. Some economists are expecting another increase, while others believe the RBA may hold at 4.60% and wait for more inflation data. Inflation is still the problem The latest ABS figures show Australia's annual inflation rate increased to 4.0% in August, up from 3.5% in July. Underlying inflation, measured by the trimmed mean, remained at 3.6%. That’s still above the RBA’s target range, which is one of the key reasons interest rates remain under pressure. The next quarterly inflation figures are due on 28 October, just before the November RBA meeting. For borrowers, this means it’s worth keeping an eye on your current home loan rate rather than simply assuming your bank is giving you its best deal. And with lenders continuing to adjust their pricing following the latest RBA increase, there are plenty of reasons to review your loan. As new buyer demand cools in some areas, we are seeing banks offering very sharp deals to new borrowers. This includes those refinancing from other lenders. Not a great look for existing clients but a real opportunity if you are moving banks. Thinking about buying? If you're planning to buy this spring, getting your finance organised before you start seriously looking can put you in a much stronger position. A pre-approval can give you a clear idea of:
Your borrowing capacity
Your likely repayments
How much deposit you'll need
Your overall buying budget
Which lenders may suit your circumstances

The Sleep Debt Your Business Is Paying Every business owner knows the trade: one more email, one more quote, one more hour. The cost is quietly deducted from tomorrow.
The catch is that broken sleep feels normal. You've forgotten what rested feels like, and your baseline becomes the benchmark.
Daytime sleepiness isn't just feeling tired. It's slower decisions, sharper mood swings and a mind that rereads the same paragraph three times. Research has linked chronic sleep loss to impaired judgment comparable to mild alcohol intoxication, and most owners wouldn't dream of negotiating a contract after two drinks, yet do it every day on too little sleep.
Loud snoring, waking unrefreshed, morning headaches or dozing off in afternoon meetings aren't quirks of a busy life. They're worth investigating, and it's worth having a sleep study. A simple test, now often done in your own home, can pinpoint whether sleep apnoea or snoring is quietly draining your days.
The numbers compound. Fragmented sleep raises blood pressure, disrupts blood sugar and dulls emotional resilience, so the pressure lands harder and recovery takes longer. Productivity slips first in the small things: missed details, snap decisions, a shorter fuse with staff and customers.
