We have seen new developments in the chaplaincy service this year, due to the support and encouragement of our leaders, both spiritual and administrative. Now the seeds sown in years of dedicated service are beginning to bear fruit and we all thank God for his faithfulness, both personally and as part of the pastoral team.

organising the recent summer
camp and staff retreat weekend which owed much of their success to her hard work. Nana says, “My desire is to establish a bible study in the afternoons, where staff members can meet, discuss and pray together. Please pray for God’s guidance as we research this and try to get the right time and format together.”
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17

Staff Retreat Weekend
As we look back at the year, we can see how the work of the Chaplaincy department has not only continued but also grown and developed.
Madeleine Bernath was the wife of Dr Hans Bernath, Superintendant of the Hospital in the 1980’s, and sadly passed away this year. Known for her skill with languages, her heart for the Lord and for Nazareth, Madeleine was a truly inspiring woman. A memorial service was held for her in the Hospital chapel and was attended by many who knew her both from the Hospital and the town.
In November, the Chaplaincy Department held a retreat weekend, the first of its kind for most of those attending. Five families attended with their children and ten others, with an additional member of the Child Evangelism Fellowship to provide activities for the children. The weekend was led by Rev Iain Macritchie, of Raigmore Hospital, Inverness and centred on “Encouraging one another”. The programme inlcuded daily worship, along with sessions aimed to help evaluate Christian witness at the Hospital.

At the end of October, the children’s ministry continued with the start of a fortnightly Good News club for children of hospital staff. With an average attendance of 20 children, this work, although in its infancy, is already being blessed!
Held in the beautiful surroundings of the Golan Heights the retreat was attended by CEO of EMMS Nazareth, Joseph Main, Director of Nursing Services, Randa Elias and Director of Nursing Education, Amal Khazin, as well as many others! The retreat went well and many of us returned feeling refreshed, encouraged and invigorated!

Also in November the annual conference of the United Christian Council in Israel was held at the Hospital. Mr Joseph Main, CEO, was invited to speak at the conference, along with Chaplain Suheil Bathish. The conference was attended by about 80 people from Christian groups and organisations from all over Israel.
