THE LEGACY CONTINUES Each year, at Closing School Mass, we take a moment to honor alumni who have chosen to continue their Nazareth legacy by sending their children to our beloved school. At Mass, both alum-parent and Class of 2022 graduate were invited to step forward, pass along the light from the alumni candle to their sons and daughters and receive a blessing. On Sunday, May 22, 2022, Nazareth Academy’s Class of 2022 celebrated their Graduation. They were the first class to graduate from Alexine Chapel, which was filled with graduates, faculty and families; the ceremony was also live-streamed for the convenience of our Nazareth Family. Commencement was the capstone event of senior-themed celebrations including Circle the City; Closing School Mass with the traditional passing of the flame during “Go Light Your World;” Awards Ceremony in full cap and gown; and Graduation Mass led by Father Ken Baker. The class includes 29 Illinois State Scholars, a National Merit Finalist, two National Merit Commended Scholars, three National Hispanic Scholars, an Appointment to the United States Naval Academy, two Chick Evans Scholars and our first Quest Bridge National Scholar. Their achievements in Scholarship, Service, Spirit and Unity continued to grow in resilience and hope no matter what the obstacles. In her Graduation Address, Valedictorian Caroline Workman encouraged her classmates, saying. “Let us take our values of hard work and care for our dear neighbor and continue to practice them in our journey through life. Let’s keep being resilient and keep persevering through all of our challenges. Let’s build a world where everyone is loved for who they are.” Caroline will attend the University of Chicago. Students from the Class of 2022 were accepted to colleges and universities all over the country, including Boston College, Clemson University, the University of Chicago, Wake Forest University, the University of Wisconsin, Syracuse University, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Michigan. At Commencement, Josiah Luke Brabham was honored with this year’s Sister Oliver Donlin Service Award. Principal Hawkins said, “Luke has been an outstanding leader and is a young man who excels in all four of our pillars. He is a clear example of Nazareth’s commitment to educating the whole person and gives his time, energy and ideas to make our school more welcoming, inclusive and fun. His contributions have truly left a mark on Nazareth Academy and in the hearts of all of us who have been lucky enough to know and work with him.”
Nazareth Academy has no doubt that the Class of 2022 will continue to go out and light this world.
