HUMANITIES BUSINESS AND ENTERPRISE ONE SEMESTER

This exciting new semester length subject specialises and investigates Business and Enterprise.

With the purpose of providing in depth and specialist preparation for VCE Business Management, in Business and Enterprise students will learn what is takes to start and manage a small business. This subject is studied for one semester. Students will also learn what it takes for a small business and other enterprises to become successful in a competitive market and the ways in which they aim to cater for consumers.

Students will learn about the importance of small business and other enterprises in their contribution to our economy. They will have their own opportunity to develop their own business concept during the semester and apply their knowledge through various business and enterprise case studies.

Students will have the opportunity to visit small businesses and see first-hand the way they operate through an outside shopping experience, with the opportunity to communicate with small business owners.

HUMANITIES HISTORY ONE SEMESTER

Learning Focus Students will investigate how Australia developed in terms of social, political, and cultural structures and traditions. They learn about the increasing global interconnections in the twentieth century. Theydiscover that history is not only narrative, but also a means of participating in the broader society.

Excursion: To the Jewish Holocaust Museum, as part of students’ studies on World War Two.

LAW AND ORDER ONE SEMESTER This new and exciting subject will encompass an in-depth study of legal and justice studies, an analysis of the Australian Constitution and will also include a closer look at the importance of government systems and their influence on the law. The subject is studied for the length of one semester. This subject aims to thoroughly prepare students for the VCE Legal Studies pathway.

It will start with a focus on the Australian government system and investigate the importance of such on society, looking at its influence on laws that impact all individuals. To provide context, the students will study and analyse the framework of the Australian Constitution and analyse its impact on normal, everyday citizens, with particular focus on the ways it impacts the justice system.

The course will also see students study the key features of Australia’s Court System and how civil and criminal disputes are handled, with particular focus on the Victorian Court hierarchy. Students will analyse the purpose of the court hierarchy and look at both the positive and negative impacts of court cases, sentencing and sanctions, on not only the accused, but the victims and broader community. The students will analyse many current and existing case studies that have occurred in Victoria, wider Australia and around the world.

HUMANITIES Year 10 Global Economics and Finance This new and exciting subject will offer a dual study in both Global Economics and the broader area of Finance for a semester. The students will analyse a variety of economic standards from around the world, as well as develop a knowledge and understanding of financial literacies including accounting and other key components. This subject will adequately prepare students for a VCE pathway in both Economics and Accounting.

Students will investigate Australia as a trading nation and learn about its place with Asia and the global economy. They will identify and learn to explain the indicators of economic performance and examine how Australia’s economy is performing in comparison to other economies from around the world. Students will learn to explain the links between economic performance and living standards, including the variations that exist within and between economies and give reasons for the possible causes for variations.

As a part of the course, students will learn to explain why and describe how people manage financial risks and rewards in the current Australian and global financial landscape. As a part of their study on a broader financial landscape, students will also develop refined accounting skills. In finance and accounting, students will explore how financial records are kept and their importance for small business. Students will look at the effects of transactions on a business’ balance sheet and will develop skills in calculating profit and loss and keeping records of assets and liabilities.
