Australian School Based Apprenticeships (ASbAs) For students who are absolutely certain of their career pathway, there are opportunities in some trades to commence an Australian School Based Apprenticeship whilst enrolled in VCE VM. This means an employer takes you on and trains you on the job. In some cases, this may mean that you spend 2 days at work each week and have your TAFE training delivered to you there or in the school holidays. You are also assessed on your skills and knowledge at work. Other ASBA students actually attend TAFE. There are further incentives for the employer to keep you on in employment after you complete the 2-year ASBA.

I went to the Nursing Home with Mr Nathan as a volunteer. I talked to the residents and played cards. I learnt how to make a cup of tea!

Part E: Career Pathway Plan or Goals Describe your career pathway goals and how you consider the VCE VM program will help you achieve your goal (a paragraph minimum) eg I really want to be a chef. When I spoke to the Chisholm VET Coordinator at the Careers Expo, she told me about the Catering Services Certificate. There I get to specialise in Kitchen Operations and learn how to cook. When I have finished my Certificate II at Chisholm, I would really like to go to William Angliss College in the city as they have a really good name and top chefs go to them to get apprentices.

I will be 18 then and will have transport to work and study in the city. One day, my dream is to travel throughout Asia to learn about their cooking. VCE VM allows me to start my TAFE VET studies in Year 11 and I will reach my goals earlier. Because you have to work in teams and be an independent learner in Hospitality, VCE VM suits my learning style.

What further education or training will be required after leaving school before you reach your goal?

What information did you learn from the Nazareth Careers Expo on Subject Selection Night ? eg If I don’t have an apprenticeship straight after Year 12, I will complete my Certificate IV at Chisholm and apply for the Diploma at William Angliss.

In signing up as a potential VCE VM student I understand the following commitments to a VET Subject in VCE VM:

VET subjects commence at the start of the school year

VET classes take precedence over camps, SIS sport, appointments, exams etc

After March 6, students may NOT change VET courses

•

A VET subject involves a commitment to 90% attendance and the completion of all tasks and assessments for that school year (except the MIPPs six month course)

Year 12 VCE VM students have the option of trying a new VET subject in Year 12

Students who do not pass a VET subject through in Year 10 or Year 11, will not be offered a place in VCE VM the following year

Parent /Guardian Permission to Disclose Personal Information It is very important to provide necessary information to VET Providers about Special Learning Needs (e.g. ASD, Auditory Processing, English as an Alternative Language, etc) or Medical Conditions (e.g.

Diabetes, Asthma, Anaphylaxis, etc) so that your son/daughter can be supported in their new learning environment and with competency-based assessment. Management Plans and Teaching and Learning Strategies will be followed as per Nazareth College Guidelines. Information will only be released with the aim of increasing educational outcomes and ensuring your son/daughter’s wellbeing.
