We are excited to bring to you this first edition of the Situation Report. Look for this special update throughout the year to keep you, our closest supporters and friends, informed of details of Navy SEAL Foundation mission critical programs and activities for our Naval Special Warfare family. Your trust is something we do not take lightly, and we will strive to earn it every day without hesitation.

Honoring our warriors. Supporting their families. This is more than a tagline; it is what the Navy SEAL Foundation does every day for the Naval Special Warfare (NSW) community and their families. While Naval Special Warfare is capable of addressing the challenges of increasing global responsibilities on its own, the Navy SEAL Foundation stands behind them proactively working to promote the readiness and resiliency of our force and the strength of our families. In 2013, we focused on our families. We invested more than $640,000 in programs to help NSW children

overcome adversity, learn leadership, set goals, and gain strength. We continue to fund NSW resiliency programs – educating and equipping our families for the stresses of multiple deployments. Our educational programs were expanded to provide more grants to dependent children, and we added post graduate scholarships for spouses and active duty NSW personnel. In total, the Navy SEAL Foundation has budgeted over $4.5 million to ensure our force and families are able to adapt and respond to the demands of Naval Special Warfare, and we are honored to provide this support. After many years with the Foundation serving in various roles, I was promoted to Chief Executive Officer. As CEO, I am focused on strategy, program development, structure and nonprofit operations. Our Board of Directors is comprised of ten former SEALs and two NSW community supporters, all with a vast knowledge of the unique challenges associated with service

in NSW. And we can’t do it alone. We have a dedicated staff of fantastic people with a wealth of knowledge, innovation, and passion for our mission. The team makes me more optimistic than ever about the Foundation’s potential to serve the community. We are always available for assistance or questions you may have; please contact us at 757-363-7490.

Our Future The Navy SEAL Foundation is looking forward to 2014 and planning for the next five years. We anticipate growth in most of our programs and are preparing to meet the next big community need $7,000,000

by ensuring the Foundation is ready to respond. We are committed to increasing our program support from $4.5 million in 2013 to more than $6.3 million by 2018.

The Navy SEAL Foundation holds education in the highest esteem. SEALs and their families can count on the Navy SEAL Foundation to assist them in reducing or eliminating the financial burdens of college. In 2013, we awarded 149 scholarships to the men, women, children, and spouses of Naval Special Warfare. These scholarship opportunities include one to four-year grants for educational, vocational, certificate and leadership programs. Our scholarships are awarded on merit and academic potential. Thanks to your generous donations, last year we were able to provide $544,807 in scholarships and an additional $183,939 in tuition assistance for active duty NSW personnel to help bridge the gap of resources not already provided by the U.S. Navy. Next year, we plan to increase the opportunity to empower this community to reach their academic and personal goals. This program is only possible because of you, our supporters.

and their families or was retained for future mission use. Our team will continue to provide streamlined support and strive to achieve the impact our community desires.

Gratitude Your generous donations have a significant and positive impact on the Naval Special Warfare community and their families. Each year, we receive countless thank you cards, phone calls and emails from active duty service members, their families and our Gold Star families expressing gratitude for the assistance and support we are able to provide. We wanted to share a few of their words with you so that you can see how your support is making a difference.

Warrior S u p p ort an d Fa m i ly S e rv i c e s “I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude for funding my YMCA membership while my husband is deployed. It is such a blessing to our family! We are very appreciative and get plenty of use of the membership. Thank you!”

“I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank you, and extend to you my deepest appreciation in recognition of your support in making our Holiday Party a success. As you know we are remotely located on the very small island of Guam, and a great part of our mission success is taking care of the families of military personnel assigned here. Your generosity has helped us achieve this, and I wish to commend you in all you do in support of Naval Special Warfare and our Great Nation!”

“I would like to personally thank you for presenting me with a check for being selected as Sailor of the Year. Most importantly I would like to thank you for all of the support and hard work you have been providing to my fallen friends and their families. Without your help this trying time would have been almost unbearable. Thank you for everything you do.”

“Thank you for the support of the “Princess and the Frog Dance”. With over 200 guests, we feel sweet memories were made for so many little NSW girls and their NSW escorts. Thanks for the fantastic support!”

“Your support of so many NSW programs is nothing short of a Godsend for so many families, couples, and children of NSW that are struggling after 11 years of war and countless deployments.”

“Thank you for all your support to NSW families. The pre and post deployment retreats are very rewarding to NSW families. We hope you continue to support us in the future!”

“I would like to thank the Navy SEAL Foundation for your generous assistance. Your generous donation allowed us to hold a Family Day much earlier than anticipated. As a newly commissioned command, it provided the right setting to introduce new families to Naval Special Warfare. This is especially important since over sixty percent of our families are new to this community. From many of the comments I received during and after the event, I can assure you it left a very positive impression on Navy SEAL Foundation’s genuine commitment to families. It is through such generosity that NSW continues to be recognized as a great community to be associated with. We could not have pulled this event off without your assistance and it has assisted our command in bringing new families into the NSW fold. Thank you for continued support to Naval Special Warfare, it truly makes a difference.”

By awarding me this scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on school. I hope one day to be able to help students achieve their goals just as your Foundation has helped me.” “I wanted to say a final thank you for supporting me these past 4 years. If not for being granted this scholarship, I don’t know how the enclosed announcement would be possible. I thank you and everyone else involved in this program.”

“I am sincerely honored to have been selected a recipient of the Navy SEAL Scholarship. Thanks to your generous support I am able to attend Virginia Commonwealth University for another year. Furthering my education is very important to me and I couldn’t do it without your help. I hope that I can use what I have learned at VCU to make a difference in peoples’ lives the same way that you have made a difference in mine.Thank you again for all you do. Hooyah!” “I am very excited to be going out into the collegiate world, and experiencing the college hub of the United States that is Boston. I will always appreciate your confidence in my abilities. I promise that I will utilize this reward so that I can truly appreciate my college experience.”
