EMBRACING CONSERVATION AUTHENTICALLY In July 2018, following over four decades of Thinking Bigger and Treading Lightly™, we introduced Eco Pals®, the first of its kind holistically eco conscious plush. At the time, we hoped to be a “catalyst for positive, sustainable change” and welcomed others to follow our lead. And follow our lead they have…not only here in North America, but also internationally. Plush companies all over the world are following in our steps to become more eco conscious, and while other lines are not as holistically eco, every step matters. But we are more than a brand…we are genuine about our conservation initiatives. Beyond the global impact of Eco Pals, we have: • Eliminated all microplastics in our products, including plastic taggers and unnecessary beans. • Eliminated all inner carton plastic bags as even biodegradable bags are still plastic that degrade to microscopic plastic which contaminates our oceans and the creatures that inhabited them. • Will not use glitter or sequins given how extremely harmful they are to the environment and wildlife. • Eliminated or replaced virgin plastic wherever possible across all aspect of our business.
Additionally, through the fear of the pandemic and the anxiety of the supply chain issues, we never lost sight of how hard the pandemic hit worldwide conservation efforts. From the onset of the pandemic to the end of 2021, thanks to you, our partners in conservation, Wildlife Artists raised and donated over US $100,000 towards conservation and continued to provide vital support to our rural African partners and their communities.
To put it simply…we walk the talk, authentically so. Thank you for continuing to give us the opportunity to do what we love.

In only six decades, the mass production of plastic has created more than 7 billion tons of waste. Alarmingly, only 9% of that plastic waste has been recycled. That means that more than 5 billion tons of bags, bottles and other single-use plastics have rapidly accumulated in landfills that just can’t handle the sheer amount of waste. So, much of this plastic ends up flowing into the ocean where it suffocates, starves and drowns marine life. Scientists predict that by 2050, our seas could contain more plastic waste than fish.

We’re on a mission to transform our industry and this is how we’ve gotten started:
INNER CARTON PLASTIC BAGS PER YEAR
In 2013, we first eliminated plastic whiskers from all of our plush. In 2014, we eliminated plastic beans because these microplastics end up in waterways and oceans, killing hundreds of thousands of marine organisms every year. We are still the only company to eliminate these unnecessary microplastics. In 2018, we transitioned all our plush to sustainable fill made only from recycled PET bottles, the first company to do so. And, another industry first, in 2019, we eliminated all inner plastic bags & microplastics (including plastic taggers) because there’s nothing eco about them. These single-use plastics, even the biodegradable ones, don’t degrade once they are buried in a landfill or floating in the ocean and still pose a grave threat to the environment. We won’t use glitter, sequins or any other trending plastics as we choose planet over plastic…authentically, every time. 20

SNARE WIRE IS USED IN THE ILLICIT PRACTICE OF SNARING, WHICH KILLS AND WOUNDS THOUSANDS OF ZAMBIA’S WILDLIFE EACH YEAR. WITH EACH PIECE OF MULBERRY MONGOOSE JEWELRY SOLD, PORTIONS OF THE PROCEEDS ARE DONATED TO CONSERVATION SOUTH LUANGWA’S ANTI-SNARING PATROLS THAT REMOVE SNARES FROM THE BUSH AND RESCUES SNARED ANIMALS. Wildlife Artists was introduced to Little Ndaba during one of our sourcing trips to Africa. Little Ndaba creates toys with a mission. Groups of women from Zambia gather to knit and crochet these gorgeous animals which are designed to help raise awareness and for the conservation of many endangered animals. The plush animals provide a vital source of income for women who have limited opportunities to earn money. Increasing opportunities for women, while decreasing the dependence on poaching for income, Little Ndaba is changing many lives for the better. Mulberry Mongoose partners with anti-snare organizations, turning confiscated snare wire into coiled and hammered “beads” and mixing these beads with locally purchased semiprecious stones, freshwater pearls and hand carved wooden beads to create handcrafted, stunning one-of-a kind pieces of jewelry. This jewelry (and their ‘chitenge’ pouches is designed and shaped by courageous Zambian bush craftswomen in the remote Zambian bush, where poverty and unemployment is rife, especially for women. Every piece of jewelry sold not only supports the livelihood of locals, lessening the need for people to turn to poaching in desperation for money, but also with each piece, Mulberry Mongoose makes a donation to anti-snaring patrols to support their work of wildlife protection and save animals that have been caught in snare wires, raising over $126,000 to date. Mulberry Mongoose is more than a jewelry company.
