NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT COMING TO GIBBINS PARK North Arlington residents will soon be able to enjoy a major makeover at Gibbins Park in The American Dream City! The Arlington City Council approved a plan at the evening meeting on June 11, 2019 to install new playground equipment at the park. The current playground is about 15 years old. The City is working with Texas-based KOMPAN to update the park. The company specializes in research-backed equipment it says goes beyond just a fun time, with a focus on helping with children’s physical and cognitive development.

The new equipment will meet all American Society for Testing and Materials standards and Consumer Product Safety Commission guidelines. The project also includes updates to the park’s safety surfaces and drainage system. The new playground will be installed this fall and is part of the City Council’s priority to Champion Great Neighborhoods.

WORLD'S ONLY MLB-BRANDED COURSE The City of Arlington and the Texas Rangers celebrated the official grand opening of the world’s only Major League Baseball-branded golf course — the Texas Rangers Golf Club — on Monday, June 3. This collaborative branding partnership, along with $24 million in course renovations under the direction of Colligan Golf Design, affords the opportunity for Arlington to offer a destination golf course for both Arlington residents and visitors alike. Texas Rangers Golf Club underwent a total renovation and updated routing of the existing golf course with improved turf grasses and additional water features. A new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse, set to open in late 2019, will feature a full-service restaurant and bar, covered patio overlooking the golf course, pro shop, locker rooms, and numerous rental and event spaces. “This thing has been voted the top golf renovation in the United States and the second best in the world,” said former pitcher and current Rangers broadcaster C.J. Nitkowski, who emceed Monday’s ceremony. The grand opening event included remarks from City of Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams, Texas Rangers Executive Vice President of Business Operations Rob Matwick and course architect John Colligan. Concluding the ceremony, the ceremony speakers were joined by City Manager Trey Yelverton, and former Rangers catcher and Hall of Fame member Iván Pudge Rodríguez for a ceremonial opening tee shot. Also in attendance representing the Rangers were Co-Chairman Ray Davis, Manager Chris Woodward, former Rangers third baseman, coach, and current front office executive Steve Buechele, assistant hitting coach Callix Crabbe, and many other current/ former players including Jesse Chavez, Jeff Frye, Chris Martin, Jeff Mathis, Shelby Miller, David Murphy, Pete O’Brien, Todd Van Poppel and Adrian Sampson. Under the agreement, the City of Arlington will still maintain ownership and management of the daily operations of the course and will not be charged for usage of the Rangers trademarks. The Texas Rangers will promote the golf course through various pre- and ingame advertising opportunities throughout

the baseball season, and on its website and social media channels. TRGC will also become the host site of various Rangers and Texas Rangers Baseball Club Foundation events upon completion of the clubhouse. “The Texas Rangers brand is perfect for this area,” said Rangers pitcher and Arlington native Chris Martin. “I think it’s going to attract a lot of new people coming into the city and they are going to stay a few more days to check the course out.” The golf club is the closest 18-hole golf course to Arlington’s Entertainment District, offering a chance to play golf in conjunction with a visit to a Texas Rangers or Dallas Cowboys Game, Texas Live! concert, or the numerous other events at AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Park and Globe Life Field, UTA or Downtown Arlington. “We’re in the heart of the Entertainment District. We’re close to all of the amenities that folks come to Arlington for,” said Lemuel Randolph, Arlington Parks and Recreation director. “Now they can add the Texas Rangers Golf Club as part of their bucket list experience.” Since a soft launch in mid-February, Texas Rangers Golf Club has been well received by both golfers and the media. TRGC was voted the top public golf course renovation in the United States and second-best in the world in a recent poll by Golf Inc., while 97 percent of golfers have rated their experience excellent or above average. Despite an unseasonably wet spring, average weekly revenue was up 142 percent in the first 10 weeks of operation in comparison to the final year of operation at Chester Ditto Golf Course. Residents of Arlington receive a 20 percent discount on all posted daily rates, while both resident and non-resident golfers age 62 and older receive further discounts off most posted rates. For more information on the course, please visit ArlingtonGolf.com. Naturally Fun Magazine • F A L L 2 0 1 9

NEW PLAYGROUNDS COMING TO THREE ARLINGTON PARKS The new equipment and playground area improvements will take place at Marti Van Ravenswaay Park, Jake Langston Park and Carl Knox, Jr. Park. The new equipment will enhance playground safety by replacing older equipment at these locations. The scope of work includes demolition and removal of existing playground equipment, as well as removing the subsurface drainage and safety surfacing.

The new playground improvements also feature interactive, sensory and imaginative-play components. The playground design encourages strength building, hand-eye coordination, balance and problem-solving skills in children. Council approval for purchase and construction of playground equipment, in the amount of $257,480, was received on June 25, 2019. The tentative start date for construction is early fall 2019. Arlington Golf and the Texas Rangers have partnered to build the world’s only Major League Baseball-branded golf course — the Texas Rangers Golf Club — which opened in February 2019. This collaborative branding partnership, along with $24 million in course renovations, affords the opportunity for Arlington to offer a destination golf course for both Arlington residents and visitors alike. “As the world’s only MLB-themed golf course, this course is sure to be a ‘bucket list’ item for baseball fans across the globe, especially our Rangers fan right here in Arlington,” Mayor Jeff Williams said.

TIERRA VERDE

It’s hard to find a more beautiful course than the award-winning Tierra Verde Golf Club. Tierra Verde is the first golf course in Texas, and the first municipal course in the world, to be certified as an Audubon Signature Sanctuary. Walk onto the first tee and enter an environment where golf and nature come together in harmony. Opened in 1998 and carved from 250 acres of secluded terrain, the course’s unsurpassed layout encompasses a variety of natural settings and offers an outstanding playing experience on every hole. The course has hosted many prestigious events, including the Byron Nelson Qualifying Tournament.

The golf club is open to the public seven days a week. Texas Rangers Golf Club is the closest 18-hole golf course to Arlington’s Entertainment District, offering a chance to play golf in conjunction with a visit to a Dallas Cowboys or Texas Rangers Game, TexasLive!, or the numerous other events at AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Park, UTA or downtown Arlington.

Tierra Verde has been named the top golf course in the Metroplex for three years (2012-14) by AvidGolfer magazine.*

A $24 million project, Texas Rangers Golf Club involved a total renovation and updated routing of the existing golf course with improved turf grasses and additional water features. A new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse, set to open in early 2020, will feature a full-service restaurant and bar, covered patio overlooking the golf course, pro shop, locker rooms, and numerous rental and event spaces.

The facility features a state-of-the-art golf learning center, a lighted driving range, three-hole practice course and large chipping and putting green complex. Lessons and clinics are taught by PGA/LPGA professionals and apprentices, an outdoor pavilion and full-service restaurant, Ventana Grille, that complement every event from small corporate outings to large fundraising tournaments.

Each hole has five sets of tees, sculpted fairways, strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards - all accented by stately trees and beautiful native grasses.

Lake Arlington Golf Course is a beautiful, 18-hole facility nestled on 185 acres on the north shore of Lake Arlington. The course was designed with all types of players in mind. With the newly renovated fairways and greens, the course provides a great golfing experience at an exceptional value. Lake Arlington’s time-honored design blends open and tree-lined fairways, long challenging par 3’s and scenic greens to appeal to every level of player. A challenge for the professional as well as the beginner, the four sets of tees, ranging from 5,485 yards to 6,637 yards, provides a fair playing field that appeals to every level. The clubhouse features a well stocked pro shop and grill. Lake Arlington’s combination of enjoyable golf, convenient location and professional staff create the perfect setting for group outings and tournaments.

Be sure to visit ArlingtonGolf.com to see a list of upcoming events at Ventana Grille. Whether you are attending one of our special holiday functions, Ticket to Travel dinners or are just enjoying a meal away from home, Ventana Grille promises to be a delight to the taste buds.

The course offers challenging golf along with a practice putting green and chipping area at an exceptional value.

Catering, wedding receptions, private parties, to-go orders and special requests are welcome. Take the stress off and let us handle the details for your upcoming event.

Avid Golfer voted Lake Arlington the most kid-friendly course in DFW in 2013, while the layout garnered a Top50 public course ranking in the publication too.

For reservations or additional information, visit ArlingtonGolf.com or call 817-548-5047.

PGA Head Professional Michael Berneburg and his staff offer golf lessons for all ages and ability levels. Call 817451-6101 for rates and availability.

A Ralph Plummer design, the course was renovated in 1998 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013.

MEADOWBROOK PARK

GOLF COURSE 817-275-0221 1300 E. Dugan

fb.com/MeadowbrookParkGolfCourse

Arlington’s tradition of outstanding golf began in the 1920’s with Meadowbrook Park Golf Course. Conveniently located just east of downtown Arlington, the golf course provides an excellent choice for families and leagues. The golf course is the centerpiece of Arlington’s first city park. Arlington purchased the 52-acre site in 1923 and it was sponsored by the Arlington Rotary Club. The site includes picnic grounds and the tree-filled nine-hole golf course. Many of the holes feature vistas of nearby AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Meadowbrook Park is the perfect facility to learn golf and sharpen short-game skills. The 9-Hole, par-33 layout consists of six par 4s, 250 to 300 yards in length, and three par 3s, approximately 150 yards in length. The course can be easily walked or played under time constraints and has a long-standing commitment to beginning adult and junior golfers. Golf legends Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson once led golf clinics here. Its small greens and narrow fairways are designed to challenge every level of player. The clubhouse offers a full line pro shop, concessions, and golf cart rentals. Exclusive facility rental opportunities are available for both golf and non-golf outdoor activities. With a long-standing commitment to environmental enhancement and preservation, Meadowbrook Park Golf Course is like a walk in the park for the whole family! 58
