Support Series for Coping with Grief

The Pathways Center for Grief & Loss will present a six-week virtual grief support series, From Surviving to Thriving, every other Tuesday from February 28 through May 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The group is for those which are 18 months or longer from the date of the death of a loved one.

The series offers the opportunity for participants to reflect upon their current stress level and satisfaction in different areas of life. Two of the sessions will focus on the basics of good nutrition and the connection between eating healthy foods and better mental and physical well-being. Educational tools and discussion will help participants learn how they can thrive, rather than simply survive after a loss.

Group facilitator and bereavement counselor Sonya HersheyVelasco says, “Many people have a tendency to hibernate and become less active in the winter months. If they are coping with the loss of a loved one, they may be struggling with some physical aspects of their grief experience. It is important to make a concerted effort to take good care of yourself.”

Attendance is free with RSVP. Register by Feb. 17. For more information, call 717-391-2413, email Pathways@HospiceCommunity.org or visit PathwaysThroughGrief.org. See ad, page 22.

Mind/Body Coaching for Chronic Pain

Renee Mendenhall has opened Mind/Body with Renee, located at the historic Warehouse, 210 West Grant Street, Suite 304, in Lancaster. Her intuitive mind/ body coaching helps clients get to the root causes of their chronic physical or emotional pain and find healing. She says, “The mind and body are intimately connected. The root of chronic pain is often unresolved stress and emotions, negative thought patterns or limiting beliefs.”

Sessions include education about the mind/body connection and intuitive insight, as well as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), PSYCH-K and Eden Energy Medicine. “EFT, also known as tapping, is a self-help tool that involves stimulating acupressure points on the body while focusing on a particular stressful situation or feeling. When these points are tapped, a signal is sent to the amygdala (the part of the brain which is in charge of determining whether there is a threat). This communication calms the nervous system, bringing you out of fight-or-flight and into rest-and-digest mode.”

PSYCH-K is an interactive, whole-brain approach to changing self-limiting and self-sabotaging beliefs in the subconscious mind. Eden Energy Medicine is a set of techniques that reduce stress. In-office and remote sessions are available.
