CONNECT TO US

The National Theatre of Scotland is a theatre company with an adventurous streak and at our heart is a strong desire not to do things conventionally. Everything we aspire to challenges the notion of what theatre can achieve. With no building of our own we’re free to make theatre wherever we can connect with an audience.

LONG GONE LONESOME Written by Duncan McLean Directed by Vicky Featherstone Featuring the Lone Star Swing Band

THEATRE CALENDAR SEPTEMBER – DECEMBER 2009

THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA By Federico García Lorca, in a new version by Rona Munro Directed by John Tiffany One of the most celebrated European dramas of the 20th century is thrillingly transposed to the tough communities of Glasgow’s East End. Following the gangland execution of her husband, Bernarda Alba will do anything to safeguard her family’s dubious fortune and the future of her five daughters. Faithfully preserving Lorca’s sense of boiling tension and impending tragedy, the play lines up a stunning cast of twelve Scottish women to bring this classic text thrillingly up to date.

Long Gone Lonesome tells the story of Thomas Fraser, a Shetland fisherman who sang, played and, some would say, lived the blues. Preferring the privacy of his own croft, recording himself obsessively on reel to reel tapes and avoiding public performance, Fraser’s life was dedicated to his art, mastering the styles of his heroes and making their songs his own.
