AMERICAN RIVERS: CONNECT & PROTECT
at the National Sporting Library & Museum
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MIDDLEBURG, Virginia – March 18, 2025 – On Thursday, April 17, the National Sporting Library & Museum (NSLM) will host a cocktail reception followed by an important discussion with Tom Kiernan, President and CEO of American Rivers, about the vital role rivers play in ensuring clean water and protecting nature and how we can help build a healthy future for our rivers and waters.
Tom Kiernan became President and CEO of American Rivers in February 2021, leading the 110 staff that make American Rivers the nation’s most trusted and influential river conservation organization. Throughout his career, Tom has been dedicated to protecting the nation’s lands and waters, broadening the conservation movement and advancing innovative solutions to benefit people and nature.
The survival of every living thing depends on clean water, most of which comes from rivers. Rivers are critical to our health and natural heritage. These precious waterways help us connect with nature and enjoy the great outdoors — from fishing to hunting to hiking, the sky’s the limit.
Today, pollution, crumbling infrastructure, and increasingly devastating storms threaten our rivers and water. These factors have a profound impact on our health and well-being. Nature is suffering, too. Freshwater wildlife is dying off twice as quickly as land or ocean species. Everything we cherish is on the line. It’s time to band together to protect and restore the rivers on which all life depends.
