“OnSundayJuly20,twocoachesand threeambulancesarrivedattheRoyal FreeHospitalinLondontotransport kidneypatientsandtheirfamiliesto ClactononSea.

Theweatherwasbleakbutwhocares, we’reofftotheseaside.Let’sgo!

Wehadagreatjourney,information abouttheKPAandtheNKFwasgivenout onthecoaches Ononecoach,apatient evenprovidedmusicthatwecould‘bop to’throughoutthejourney.

So,wearrivedinClactononSea,shock horroritwasraining!Nottobe deterred,wemadeourwaydownto thepromenade.Itrained…Wehadfish andchips…Itrained…Wefound shelter…Itrained…Wehadteaand cakes.Suddenly…Thesuncameout…It was3.00pm.Didwecomplain?No,we utilisedthetimewiselyandhadfunin thesun!

Lookatthephotos,onepatienteven pitchedagazeboonthebeach!Weall hadawonderfultime!Wereturnedto Londonhappybuttired,adaywell spent.LookoutforourDayTripnext year.Joinusifyoucan!”

Thereweresmilesallaroundaspatientsandstaff fromtheLucyDeaneDialysisUnitinNuneaton cametogetherforaheartwarmingdayout,a rareandmuch-appreciatedtreatmadepossible bythesupportoftheCoventryandWarwickshire KidneyPatients’Association(CWKPA).

Thegroupenjoyedadeliciousbuffetmealatthe GriffinBeefeaterinNuneaton,completewith plentyoftea,refreshinglemonade,anda beautifulspreadofhomemadecakes Manyof thepatientsdressedupfortheoccasion,andthe atmospherewasfullofjoyandconnection.You couldtelljustbylookingattheirfaces–theywere havingatrulygooddayout.

Forpatientswhospendlonghours eachweekreceivingdialysis,and whooftenfacesocialisolation,this eventmeantfarmorethanameal.It wasachancetosocialiseoutsidethe clinicalenvironment,toenjoya senseofnormality,andtofeelpartof asupportivecommunity.

TheLucyDeaneteam,ledby dedicatedstafflikeNurseLauraPasca, wasdelightedtoseepatientsrelax, laugh,andconnect.

Laurasays,"Iamwritingtoexpressmy sinceregratitudetoyouandthe CWKPAformakingtherecentpatient dayoutpossible.Ihavereceived wonderfulfeedbackfromthepatients, allofwhomthoroughlyenjoyedthe day.Ittrulyhadasignificantand positiveimpactonthem.

Thiseventwasanexcellent opportunityforpatientstobuild relationshipsandsupportoneanother.

Ibelieveitisthestartofmanylasting connections Thesocialimpactofthis daywasevidentinthestrengthened bondsbetweenpatients,fosteringa greatersenseofcommunityand mutualsupport.Thebenefitsextended beyondsimpleenjoyment;itprovided avitalboosttotheirmoraleandwellbeing.Itbroughtmeimmensejoyto seetheimpactonthem–theirsmiles andthegoodtimetheyhadweretruly heartwarming."

Washyourfeeteveryday

Washyourfeeteverydayinwarmwaterandwith amildsoap.Rinsethemthoroughlyanddrythem carefully,especiallybetweenthetoes.

Moisturiseyourfeeteveryday

Ifyourskinisdry,applyamoisturisingcream everyday,avoidingtheareasbetweenyourtoes

Toenails

Carryoncuttingyourtoenailsasyourpodiatrist hasadvisedyouto.

Avoidwalkingbarefoot

Alwayswearfootwear,evenonthebeach.The sandcanbecomeverywarmandyoumayburn yourfeetwithoutrealising.

Prescriptionshoes

Ifyouhavebeensuppliedwith prescriptionshoes,donotwearany othershoesduringyourholiday (exceptwhenyouareinthesea).

Takeasmallfirstaidkitcontaining sterilegauzedressingsandMicropore tape
