By Kendra Ansley, NATM Executive Director
A new year is upon us and the 2022 Annual NATM Convention & Trade Show is just around the corner. With winter weather stretching across much of the US, the Tampa sun and a little warm weather is a welcome respite. Even without sunny weather, the NATM Convention remains my favorite event of the year and one I have been looking forward to for nearly two years since we were all together. With more than 900 members spread across the globe, the convention allows me to connect with over 1,000 attendees all in one place. This year we’re excited to welcome trailer dealers for the first time in show history! Dealers are an integral part of the trailer manufacturing industry and I know we’re all looking forward to being together under one roof!
2022 marks the final year in NATM’s current strategic plan and there is a lot in store! Focusing on resources members can utilize to attract and retain a skilled workforce and upskill their existing workforce is just part of what members can expect to see unfold. NATM is creating new marketing plans to increase the value of the NATM Decal and better engage end users. In the spring, I will be hitting the road with Assistant Director Meghan Ryan to meet with dealers across the country to talk more about the value of the Compliance Verification Program and how we can support dealers via our mission to promote trailer safety and industry growth. The Association is also in the process of developing strategic partnerships to grow the reach of Trailer Safety Week and better utilize industry expertise to improve trailer safety. The Association will also be launching a new website, bringing a refreshed look and increased functionality to member and site visitors alike. The 2019-2022 strategic plan may be sliding into home, but the NATM Board is already beginning to think towards the future. In summer 2022, the Board will be hosting its 20232025 strategic planning session. Members can expect to receive surveys and outreach from NATM and its strategic plan facilitator to help guide your association into the future. Keep an eye out!
New committees have been assigned for the year and goals refreshed to propel the industry forward. NATM’s technical committees will be updating technical documents like the Safely Towing a Trailer Brochure and focusing on improvements to the Compliance Verification Program. The Membership Committee will be looking closely at member benefits and evaluating opportunities for improvement. The Finance Committee will be evaluating NATM’s long-term financial plan and setting strategic course to ensure the Association continues to grow alongside its members and can support expanding programing and benefits. The Government Affairs Committee will continue to tackle big issues like workforce and supply chains, while the Education Committee will develop new content for members based on current needs. With these new committees set to start their work soon and new Board members bringing fresh perspective and industry expertise, NATM is poised to generate more value for members in 2022.
Happy New Year! May your 2022 be filled with success and happiness! ■
