OtherVermeerteammemberbenefits: Vermeer offers its team members several other differentiated, highly soughtafter benefits. These include an onsite health care clinic and pharmacy, where both doctor visits and prescriptions are more cost effective than they are elsewhere, and a chaplaincy program.

Both team members and their dependents are eligible to use the clinic and the pharmacy (features Vermeer has offered for 25 years) and many do.

Vermeer has multiple chaplains across the company’s locations. These chaplains are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to “support the emotional needs of the team,” Vanden Bosch said. “It is without question one of the things our team members most value.”

Childcareadviceforothermanufacturers: “Child care is hard right now,” Vanden Bosch said. “Businesses have to go into it with the belief that it’s an investment in the workforce of today and tomorrow, knowing that there will likely be some costs they won’t recoup. But it’s one of the most viable ways to create a workforce.” ■

NATM Hires Scott Simons as Membership Outreach Specialist

By Meghan Ryan, NATM Assistant Director

Introducing Scott Simons

The National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) is excited to announce Scott Simons joined the staff as the membership outreach specialist in April. In this position, Simons’ focus will be to grow membership in the organization and support retention of existing members. Scott will be responsible for overseeing NATM’s recruiting efforts, and focusing on meeting with prospective members and dealer affiliates.

“NATM created the membership outreach specialist position this year as part of its strategic plan to grow the NATM Dealer Affiliate Program and membership overall,” said NATM Executive Director Kendra Ansley. “This is an exciting expansion of our team and the future of NATM. Scott’s background in sales in the utility equipment realm will serve him well as he meets with dealers and trailer manufacturers across the country. In his first month, Scott was already able to leverage existing industry relationships and we’re excited to see his value add over time.”

Scott received his bachelor’s degree in communication with an emphasis in business from Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. He has worked in sales since 2014 and spent the last three years working for Triple C Manufacturing, Inc., focusing on the sale of cable and reel handling utility equipment. Outside of work, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife Aly and their two sons, 5-year-old Jack and 1-year-old Reid. He enjoys golfing, attending Jack’s sporting events and spending time outdoors with family.

Scott is excited to learn more about the needs of NATM’s Dealer Affiliates along with the needs of the light- and medium-duty trailer industry as a whole. He also looks forward to meeting current members as well as prospective members across the country. Welcome Scott to the Association by phone at (785) 272-4433, or by email at Scott.Simons@ntam.com. ■

Member Spotlight

Maine Trailer Inc.

By Erin Mohwinkle, NATM Marketing Coordinator

When asked about his National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) membership, Rod Hathaway, chief operating officer, Maine Trailer Inc. says, “I put a lot of value in networking and the NATM networking as a dealer affiliate has put a new perspective on this activity for me. “I tend to have a greater respect for those manufacturers that have made the NATM commitment for their business and have taken that commitment to a higher level of quality in building trailers. Those of us who have been in the industry for a while have seen the loads of trailers arriving and had issues with quality the minute they rolled off the truck. So having that NATM Decal means a lot to me and we speak to it during our customer presentations as well.”*

Founded in Bangor, Maine in 1985, Maine Trailer Inc. has been working hard for the consumer for 37 years and continues to focus on bringing the customer great value, with trailers that fit their needs all while keeping the pace with the ever-changing technology and newest components.

Maine Trailer does work with a lot of government agencies however they tend to find their “sweet spot” in meeting the everyday needs of the homeowner, contractor and landscapers.

Education and communication are key to safety and selection of a trailer for each customer’s needs. Hathaway said throughout the years he has seen the customer become much more educated. The consumer has an idea of what they are looking for and are asking more direct, technical questions leading to a better match.

As a dealer, Maine Trailers Inc. knows quality is very important but being able to present the customer with a good value that is right for the job is most significant and rewarding.

“Taking a customer's needs and being a good listener helps us match the need with the correct trailer,” said Hathaway. “Then having them reach back out to me and say thanks—that is a big incentive for me. That is a huge plus as we have had customers return and ask for that same trailer when considering a replacement.”
