During the past four years, the Historical Archive of Celje (Slovenia) and the Town Archives of Ieper (Belgium), have co-ordinated a publication developed around records from European archives in order to celebrate the International Archives Day (9 June). In this exercise, an archive from each European Union country presents a document related to a chosen theme.
This year, the International Archives Week coincides with the elections to the European Parliament. Thus, the theme chosen was Democracy. This publication presents archives as bearers of democratic ideas and promoters of democratic values, since free access to archival material protects citizens’ rights and promotes transparency and accountability.
The National Archives of Malta joined 22 archives in presenting stories about democracy from their holdings.
