Dear TCAN Members, Welcome back to TCAN! They say that “absence makes the heart grow fonder” – and I say with certainty that performing artists throughout the country, and the audiences who love them, can’t wait to get back together again. TCAN’s survival during the pandemic was made possible because our audiences saved us. Members renewed their memberships, even though we could present no programs. Donors, sponsors and local foundations made generous gifts to ensure we would return from 17 months of closure. Ticket buyers waited more than a year for concert events to occur after being rescheduled multiple times. When presented with refunds for cancelled performances, many chose to donate the funds to TCAN instead. We are eternally grateful for your belief in our mission, and in us. We will work to preserve the faith and trust you placed in us.

TCAN STAFF David Lavalley Executive Director

DIRECTOR’S NOTE As you might guess, we are excited and hopeful to reopen and resume programs starting in July. We understand that our ability to reopen is the gift of all of those in Massachusetts who fought the spread of the virus by getting vaccinated. Thanks to you for making reopening possible for us! This month we are pleased to welcome the newest member of the TCAN staff – Nina Scibelli of Boston is our new Theater Operations Manager, having spent years working at Club Passim in Cambridge. In this important role Nina will support our box office and event volunteers, manage our ticketing system processes and keep TCAN’s back office running smoothly. We also bid a heartfelt farewell to Josh Valentine, who departs TCAN later in July for sunny Los Angeles to pursue a career in the movie industry. Congratulations and best of luck to Nina and Josh!so saw the first MetroWest Student Film Festival, special events David Lavalley, staged by TedxNatick, Wellesley’s Parents Executive of Performing Students (POPS), Director Natick Education Foundation, Opera del West,

MARC COHN JUL 23 | 8PM

After winning a Grammy for his soulful ballad “Walking in Memphis,” Marc Cohn is revisiting another corner of American music’s rich heritage with the Blind Boys of Alabama on the Grammy-nominated song “Let My Mother Live,” and also worked with David Crosby on the album Lighthouse. As powerfully influenced by the singersongwriter tradition as he is by the legacy of soul and gospel, working with the ‘60s icon was a project that got right to Marc’s creative core. Moving forward, he continues to do what he does best: infuse American music with both a fresh perspective and a reverence for its deep roots. $60 public | $55 members order online | natickarts.org/calendar | 508.647.0097

BLUES

POPA CHUBBY AUG 13 | 8PM

While Popa Chubby would have preferred spending 2020 touring and celebrating his album “It’s a Mighty Hard Road”, the compilation of his 30 year career, instead he created “Tinfoil Hat.” Musically, it’s Popa Chubby at his best, a concentrate of blues-rock energy with a touch of romance at times. He made this album all by himself and adds in a reggae track, highlighting his musical eclecticism, far from the blues-rock genre he is used to. It’s birthed from love, desperation, fear, frustration, pain, joy, sorrow, and resolution. “Like you, I have been pushed to the limits of my humanity by the pandemic. But music sweet music has set me straight once again and I offer this work with humility and devotion to you all.” $30 public | $25 members order online | natickarts.org/calendar | 508.647.0097
