Drawn towards the waters edge, Nathaniel Ebert chases curiosity along the oceans waves and their confronting coastlines. His work focuses on the surreal allure provoked by the ever-changing romance of light and liquid creating atmospheric works that evoke emotional undercurrents. Its along the surface Ebert captures this dance, but his eye tends to wander towards the surrounding scenes and their compelling compositions. This natural curiosity has carried him throughout the world, submerging him in foreign cultures. From exploring waves in Indonesia to knocking back caipirinhas in Rio, the adventure has only begun.

I. AURA

Everything is attracted to light. Daffodils bend towards the sunrise, Sequoias deepen their roots with every sunset, and freshly hatched sea turtles use the moon to guide themselves back to sea. It’s all around us. It’s vitality. It’s an enveloping grace.

The Aura series is a homage to these prisms. Capturing these beauty pockets of our atmosphere on 35mm film and printing them on watercolor paper adds texture, a tangible element for something so out of reach. The hand deckled edges incorporates a human component in an attempt to bridge the gap and a gentle reminder that nothing is perfect. Positioning the pieces into a collage creates a tapestry of one’s perspective and merges multiple sunsets into one warm spectacle.
