Major Projects
One of Raymond Loewy’s most ambitious projects. During the 1960’s Loewy and a small group of designers set out to design a new car body for Studebaker.
In Erin Kelly’s (2021) article it says that Studebaker was one of Loewy’s longest contracts and the car is still being produced today. This just shows how streamlining designs can be made timeless.

One of the main focuses on the design of this car body was its aerodynamics. This can be seen in the gentle slant of the roof to the rear of the car. This is another example of streamlining designs. The shape is so iconic
The Sears Coldspot fridge can be considered as a classic example of industrial design that entered the mass market.
Before this fridges used to be unattractive square boxes with cheap hardware with large legs that lifted it off the ground. Loewy’s designs solved all these problems using the streamline effect. Rounded corners with emphasised curved lines. Added sleek hardware and incorporating the space underneath for storage.
In a article by The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica (2022), This product design was a great design triumph and it won first prize at the Paris International Exposition of 1937.
