PREFACE Collective Memory Nasser Palangi
Collective Memory “I put my heart and my soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process” Vincent Van Gogh
Memory is a whisper Floating back to us through time, but this diaphanous quality of
memory sometimes causes us to lose touch with what is. Or was real. These artworks have purpose beyond their forms. They are focused on culture, history and heritage. It provides an artistic and alternative view of heritage to new generation. it is the way of placing and preserving memory that is far more than a collection of objects. To show the religious, social and historical richness of the heritage the Middle East, I use a variety of media: painting, print media, embroidery, bending, found objects, photo transfer techniques. To present the images, I work on ritualistic, alter-like objects using not only culturally specific symbolism but also personal imagery. I want to remind people of their culture. I ant to remind people not to forget the past, because the past is the light of Future. My Artworks can be placed in post-modern discourse in them of cultural and heritage items displayed in a contemporary visual language. The visual elements and principles also themes create a sense of poetic expressionism. I invite the viewer to become a participant in special sacred ceremony.

Mystery, Beauty and Forms
We’ve all heard someone say, “God works in mysterious ways…”
Today I consider myself lucky to had crossed paths with Dr. Nasser Palangi, I’ve noticed some incredible detailed Art work at their stall that he had painted, who nobody can deny his passion is on another level. His pencil, paint brush strokes and shadows bring life to his work, as if composing music in his mind, like a melody that takes you back in time and walks you through this journey of mystery, beauty, and form. You can see through the colors he uses hues that remind you of the past, or of your pastIn all his work he follows simple principles that have unity, contrast, shape, emphasis, movment, repetition and rhythm. This gives me an idea that he loves sharing, and having soul connection with life. Dr. Nasser admires hardship, he learned so much from great scientists, master artists, and poetic philosophers that didn’t have it the easy way in life, and even in their perfection they were never completely satisfied because of their infinite possibilities of growth. As his student, i learned so much from his teachings, he guided me to be more intuitive with not only my soundings, but with myself as well.
Thank you for being my mirror. Afra Talal Tarik Al Said Artist & Art Collector

Ritual of Art
A
t first, I would like to thank Dr. Nasser Palangi for his release of Oriental Memories series that speaks of the middle east throughout his paintings. His work captivates the history, tradition, and memories of his country home Iran. When I first saw his work, I could see how much colorful, filled with life, love, and harmony in each of his paintings. Each work tells a story, a story of love, hope and happiness. Nasser Palangi addressed his audience on what he truly felt during the war in Iran through his paintings. Whenever we meet for coffee and chat, I could see an endless tale through his eyes projected in his arts. Seeing him getting into a certain artwork, disconnecting with the presents, and sailing throw a million waves of memories and harmony, how he combines different colors and patterns just to make a jewel of the Arabian Peninsula. Whenever, I look at his art works I just get caught now of a thousand nights, a story tale not written by words, yet, painted on canvas by Nasser Palangi. I wish Dr. Nasser Palangi all the success and happiness, hoping that he got peace after completing his series of Ethnic Memories, a true memory that we all cherish, remember and love…

“Dr. Palangi’s ‘Oriental Memories’ marks another milestone in Jotun’s art engagement”
A
rt has always been viewed as a link between individual and society; and is an expression of undiluted creativity. Because of this, support for the arts has been an innate part of our corporate culture at Jotun Paints. The likeness between paints and art is unquestionable. Both give people the opportunity to express themselves in new and different ways, while exposing them to new ideas. With this in mind, it has always been our tradition at Jotun to foster interaction between the two. To this end, Jotun Paints Oman has supported several renowned artists, art projects, galleries and exhibitions such as Stal Gallery and Cure8. The support to Dr. Nasser Palangi’s - ‘Oriental Memories’ exhibition at The Waterfront Muscat, too marks yet another milestone in our art engagement. Given Jotun’s colour creation legacy of 60 years that encompasses thousands of hues, we truly enjoy Dr. Palangi’s contemporary artwork and appreciate the depth of his artistic talents. His creative heritage and prowess is unique not only because of its artistic qualities, but also because it blends Middle Eastern historical imagery with abstract backgrounds seamlessly and beautifully. His paintings orchestrate brilliant colour composition and visual order to create dynamic effect. All of Dr. Palangi’s paintings have so much to look at - within each abstractions is a little clue or figure that gives you a glimpse into his brilliant mind. That’s not all, just like Jotun’s experts who create a new collection of colours curated to reflect the mood and ideas of the present moment, while drawing from timeless archives; Dr. Palangi’s paintings too follow the same path, and merge old-worldly charm with new-age aesthetics. It is for these reasons that Jotun Paints Oman is pleased to support his masterful artistry, and wish him the best for ‘Oriental Memories’, as well as his future showcases. It is no secret that at Jotun Paints Oman, we work zealously towards the revival and development of partnerships with the cultural community. Given our company’s DNA, we continue to be active in supporting ambitious projects and artists like Dr. Palangi that revive cultural, spiritual and national values; while driving culture, industry, education, and sports in Oman.
