MAGICAL MUSIC MOMENTS IN NASSAU BAY LAST MONTH On Friday, July 24th, Nassau Bay's Music in the Park saluted America's 250th Anniversary of Independence by bringing in the Bay Area Symphony's Brass Quintet to David Braun Park's Roscoe Lee Pavilion! The first half of the evening had over a 150 residents on their feet as they enjoyed the quintet's patriotic arrangements. For the second half of the program, Conductor Martin Leon Garcia's brass musicians played audience favorites like the Theme from James Bond and A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square. The Bay Area Symphony Orchestra recently delivered an exceptional performance under the baton of conductor Martín García León. Hailing from Patagonia, Argentina, Maestro García León is a distinguished musician and the first orchestral conductor from his home region to achieve international acclaim. Since winning a prestigious young conductors' competition in 2018—which resulted in his debut with the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra —he has garnered extensive global experience, including collaborations with the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet in Hanoi. This special evening was a project of the Parks & Recreation Committee: Keep Nassau Bay Beautiful. We were honored to host such an esteemed talent in the City of Nassau Bay.

OCTOBER 4-10 IS NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION WEEK Your Nassau Bay Volunteer Fire Department is joining the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to promote the theme "Safe Charging Is a Superpower." Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries power many everyday devices, and charging them safely can help prevent fires. Use the charger designed for your device, charge on a hard, flat surface, avoid charging damaged or overheating batteries, and unplug devices once they are fully charged. Larger batteries, such as those used in e-bikes and power tools, should be charged outside and away from exits whenever possible. For more fire safety tips, follow the NBVFD Facebook page. We invite the community to join us for our annual Fire Prevention Week Open House on Friday, October 9 from 6-8pm, at the NBVFD Station. His leadership, generosity, and commitment have helped shape the organization into what it is today. Mike's technology expertise has been invaluable. He led the modernization of CANBE's digital operations and has maintained our digital platforms for many years, helping the organization communicate more effectively and serve our community more efficiently. Kelsey Low, naturalist and educator at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, shares her expertise about Houston’s nocturnal wildlife – from owls to bats to moths and other creatures of the night. Learn why darkness is an important part of a healthy ecosystem at the September 8 Nassau Bay Garden Club meeting. A committed advocate for nature in the city, she is a member of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Urban Outreach Advisory Committee, the City of Sugar Land PARCS Board, and the Cullinan Park Conservancy Board. Later in the week, September 11 the club will host a guided field trip to the Houston Arboretum.
