aval Air Station Key West is a unique base not only because it’s home to one of the biggest combat air training programs, but it’s also home to nearly two dozen animals that are protected under the Endangered Species Act and other federal laws. NAS Key West is challenged to conduct year-round operations as well as maintain constant compliance with federal, state and local environmental laws. “Essentially, I serve as the installation commanding officer’s principal advisor for all environmental matters and his representative to the community,” said Environmental Director Edward Barham. “Along with the environmental engineers, biologists, environmental protection specialists and environmental protection assistants, I develop and maintain a broad and progressive environmental management system, to ensure full compliance with all environmental laws and regulations
