JEA launches Toys for Tots drive

oys for Tots officially kicked off Tuesday as donation boxes were set out at sites on Naval Air Station Key West and in the community.

The Junior Enlisted Association is doing the heavy lifting - decorating, placing and monitoring donation boxes on base and in town, and HM1 Romeo Sali has volunteered to act as coordinator/liaison with the Marine

Corps Reserves representatives in the Keys. The toy drive was established by Marine Maj. (Ret.) Bill Hendricks in 1947 so that children wouldn’t go without presents during the holidays. The Marine Corps

Reserves continues to run the nonprofit program. This year, the volunteers have set a goal of collecting 3,000 toys, according to JEA President AC2 Liz Lockwood. Lockwood said she see TOYS page 3

A

s part of an effort to expand the reach of military voluntary education and help make

higher education accessible for all service members, veterans and family members, the DOD Voluntary Education Program will host its first online Virtual Education Fair Thursday.

The online fair is designed to enable members’ participation from anywhere in the world, helping them get a head-start on the information needed to reach their education goals.

The Military Evaluations Program Manager for the Defense Activity for Non Traditional Education Support, Taheesha Quarells, said this inaugural online education fair will
