The international competition Invictus Games 2016 brings together wounded, injured and ill service members in the spirit of friendly athletic competition. Over 500 competitors from 15 nations take part in the event which began Sunday and ends today.

-35C Joint Strike Fighter aircraft from Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 101 made their first-ever visit to Naval Air Station Key West during a stop on an extended training flight. The F-35Cs are assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 101, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. VFA-101 is training and qualifying F-35C aircrew and maintenance professionals to operate safely and effectively as part of a carrier air strike group at sea.

Navy Lodge wins Carlson Award FROM NAS KEY WEST PUBLIC AFFAIRS

T

he Navy Lodge at Naval Air Station Key West bested other facilities in its class to win the coveted Carlson Award for 2015. The Carlson Award is given to a Navy Lodge for its achievements in guest satisfaction, associate experience, commitment to quality and focus on providing outstanding value to the Navy. NAS Key West’s Navy Lodge, which has 26 rooms, won the award in the medium category for lodges with up to 50 rooms.

“This is very exciting,” said NAS Key West Navy Lodge Manager Jennifer Sacks. “Considering half our staff consists of new employees who have been hired within the last 18 months, this is a great way to recognize how dedicated they are and how hard they have worked to achieve our goals for the lodge.” Sacks herself is fairly new to the Navy Lodge, having joined the program in June 2015 and assumed the manager’s role here in September. Job fair offers first work experience FROM NAS KEY WEST PUBLIC AFFAIRS

N

aval Air Station Key West’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation is sponsoring a summer jobs program for teens aged 14 - 18. The program is focused on firsttime job seekers. Eligible youth include dependents of local active and retired military, and DOD civilians and contractors assigned to NAS Key West or one of its tenant commands. Employment opportunities are at the Child Development Center and Youth Center and teens can

work up to 30 hours per week. The program begins June 13 and lasts for nine weeks, ending the week of Aug. 15. Applications are available at the Youth Center on Sigsbee Park, MWR administration, Bldg. A-711 on Boca Chica Field, or by emailing KWMWRHR@gmail.com. Selections will be competitive, so those interested in applying must attend a prerequisite Job Skills Workshop from 6 - 7 p.m. on May 24 and a Resume Writing Workshop from 4 - 6 p.m. on May 26.
