aval Air Station Key West personnel will be busy next week as military and civilian performers arrive for the Southernmost Air Spectacular April 2 and 3. Expect to see the Blue Angels practice later in the week as pilots set points of reference for their flights. The SAS run-through will be Friday but it is closed to all but a very few invited groups. “The Friday air show practice day is not a military show day,” said NAS Commanding Officer Capt. Steve McAlearney. “There are a lot of moving parts happening that day - setups, vendor traffic, aircraft movement - so the flight line will be limited to per-

Access plan, security set for airshow From NAS Key West Public Affairs

ne major concern for airshow fans is traffic congestion coming to and leaving Boca Chica Field, the site of the Southernmost Air Spectacular. With this being the third air show since 2010, security officials have honed a traffic plan to cut congestion and encourage smooth
access and egress. All traffic traveling southbound from the Key West area will access the base through the marina gate, located just past the Boca Chica Bridge, according to NAS Key West Security Officer Lt. Cmdr. Michael Rickett. Northbound traffic will enter through the main gate at MM 8, and the commercial gate at see security page 3
MWR team makes air spectacular fun From NAS Key West Public Affairs
W
hile Sailors and the installation’s civilians will focus on safety and security during the air show, the Morale, Welfare and Recreation team is providing the fun. MWR is responsible for the food, beverages and entertainment for the air show. Without MWR, the
show would last about an hour with only the Blue Angels, VFC111 and SOCOM Para-Commandos performing. There would be no seating, food, beverages, ice cream, inflatables or other children’s activities. And don’t forget the air show merchandise - thanks to MWR. With most employees working see MWR page 3
