ornets and Falcons are taking flight over the skies of Boca Chica Field as combat air training resumes at Naval Air Station Key West following a holiday timeout for Sailors. The F-18s and F-16s are joined by EA-18 Growlers and F-21 Kfirs. In all, the tarmac is hosting 64 visiting aircraft; meanwhile, Navy Gateway Inns and Suites is currently home to 709 visiting aviators, aircrew and maintainers. The visiting squadrons represent a diverse group of aviators from all over the nation, including Virginia Beach, Virginia, Whidbey Island, Washington, Fallon, Nevada, and Toledo, Ohio. Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 106, the “Gladiators” from Oceana, Virginia, flying the F-18 Hornet, arrived earlier in the week, a few days late because of delays caused when snow and ice storms see training page 2

Report phone, email tax scammers to IRS From NAS Key West Public Affairs No one wants to pay more tax than they owe, and no one wants to be scammed out of their hardearned money. So, what can you do to protect yourself from tax and other scams that propagate this time of year?

First, recognize how the IRS operates. Note that the Internal Revenue Service will never call to demand immediate payment using a specific payment method such as a prepaid debit card, gift card or wire transfer. Generally, the IRS will first mail you a bill if you owe any taxes.

The IRS also will not threaten to immediately bring in local police or other lawenforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying. Additionally, the IRS will not demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.

Finally, the IRS will not ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone. Second, if you get such a call and know that you don’t owe taxes, or have no reason to think that you do, don’t give out any information to anyone claiming to be from the IRS. Simply hang up

immediately and then contact the treasury inspector general for tax administration to report the call via their IRS impersonation scam reporting web page at https:// www.treasury. gov/tigta/contact_ report_scam.shtml or call (800) 366-4484. see IRS page 6
