I
t’s been a busy year at Naval Air Station Key West - a year capped with recovery from Hurricane Irma Sept. 10. And it wasn’t just the airfield that was busy. Our 39 tenants, including Coast Guard Sector Key West, Joint Interagency Task Force South and U.S. Army Special Forces Underwater Dive School, were busy as well often uti-
lizing NAS Key West assets, like the Mole Pier and Port Operations. Here are the numbers for Fiscal Year 2017, which began October 2016 and ended Sept. 30, 2017: NAS Key West provided 30,000 square miles of training range services to 64 detachments with 527 aircraft and more than 6,515 pilots and crew, including the firstever training detachment of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 101, with see 2017 page 7
he Navy’s newest San Antonioclass amphibious transport dock ship, USS Portland (LPD 27), docked at Naval Air Station Key West’s outer Mole Pier Friday for holiday liberty. Portland, which recently joined the fleet as it sailed from the shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi, on Dec. 14 is making its way to its homeport of San Diego. Base, facilities close for holidays From NAS Key West Public Affairs

aval Air Station Key West administrative offices and facilities will close in observance of Christmas and New Year’s Day. Air operations will cease as Sailors take time to spend with their family and friends. The Navy Exchange on Sigsbee Park is open regular hours (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.) on Sunday, closed
Monday, open regular hours (10 - 5 p.m.) Dec. 31 and open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2018. The Boca Chica Field and Trumbo Point mini-marts are open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, closed Monday, closed Dec. 31 and open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Jan. 1, 2018.
