OD civilians are encouraged to show their support for Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month by wearing jeans and teal-colored clothing Wednesday, which is “Denim Day.” For the past 18 years, the organization “Peace Over Violence” has promoted the “Denim Day” campaign on a Wednesday in April in recognition of SAAPM. hile Naval Air Station Key West is primarily a warfighter training base, it also acts as a sanctuary for a variety of endangered and protected species of plants and animals. “NAS Key West is home to many protected wildlife species, such as crocodiles, alligators, sea turtles, manatees and, of course, the Lower Keys marsh rabbit,” according to Environmental Director Ed
Barham. Manatees have been spotted in recent months at Boca Chica Marina and on Sigsbee Park. “It’s important that the residents don’t feed, water or touch them,” Barham said. “We don’t need to acclimate them to humans. It presents a danger as they will come up to people and then could be injured by boats running over them.” Not only have manatees been sighted, the endangered least and see ENDANGERED page 6
