ill Loftus, director of the Navy’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office visits Naval Air Station Key West next week to meet with Sailors at a series of focus groups.

Loftus serves as the Secretary of the Navy’s principal point of accountability for all sexual assault policy matters and as the primary resource for expert SAPR assessment, program support, and oversight.

aval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center Jacksonville has selected Gina Sonzogni, senior systems analyst at Naval Air Station Key West, as its 2016 Senior Civilian of the Year.

Sonzogni’s customer service skills and “team player” attitude were just a few of the attributes noted in her selection from a field of 167 colleagues, noted an FLC news release.

A NAS civilian employee for nearly 28 years, she joined the Supply Department after graduating Key West High School in 1988.

“Her extreme ability to multitask makes her one of our most valuable employees,” said Diane Moll, deputy site director, NAVSUP FLCJ Key West. “Gina is the type of person who can do it all - from fixing an IT issue or covering an see COY page 3

These values are both similar and they have themes in them, clearly honor is a theme.

In my last job I had a medical helicopter CHAPLAIN'S pilot tell me, as CORNER we were doing a check on something that had become redundant, “Chaps, right is right 100 percent of the CG Sector Key West time.”

What he said stuck with me and almost daily I think about it.

“Right is right.” We know what we need to do, when we need to do it and how to properly execute what needs to be done.

When your integrity is challenged what are you doing? Are you doing what is right even when it hurts, even when you have to face a giant? When it may make you less popular?

You may lose friends who want you to stretch the truth, to

look the other way, to go with the flow. But what are you sacrificing? Are lives in danger? Are you living up to the core values of the service in which you are serving?

If your faith is important to you, there are scriptures that offer guidance. When I think about what to do in a situation I compare and contrast to scripture. For me when I have to take a stand I think of James 4:17 says, “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.”

Right is right. If you are facing a mountain that seems huge, no matter what it is, chaplains are here to help. We listen and can provide a confidential sounding board. Well, we live in Key West, so it never really stopped shining. But you get the drift spring has arrived.

We are deep into the season of Lent and I hope each and every one of you is growing in your faith as we approach the Easter holiday.

I have been thinking a lot lately about doing the right thing.

There have been many times in my life that doing the wrong thing, or doing what someone else wanted would have been much easier. It seems that this is a never ending process for me, and I assume it is with you as well.

I want to encourage you to listen to your instinct. When something does not seem right, it likely is not. Often this is going to be taking a stand that may not be popular.

If you do not take a stand it shows others your values.

The Coast Guard’s core values are Honor, Respect and Devotion to Duty.
