Once the items are removed from those properties, NAS Key West Security will go through an established process to dispose of them. Another dumping issue on Geiger Key and Rockland Key is the large amount

o you know someone whose next set of orders have them moving to Key West this summer? Better give them a heads up to consider finding temporary housing now as the wait list for Naval Air Station Key West’s permanent housing extends beyond days and weeks, and for some, into months. “We have more families moving in than are moving out,” said NAS Key West Housing Director Charity Sandstrom. “We are seeing more families. In the past there were more unaccompanied than families. That balance appears to have shifted.” Currently, housing is available for enlisted military; for officers, the wait can be several months. aval Air Station Key West security patrols and calls from nearby residents have alerted the air station to an increase in dumping on Navy properties on Geiger

and Rockland keys. The majority of the empty lands on Geiger Key and Rockland Key are Navy properties, including lots bought by the Navy in the 90s to help quell development near Boca Chica Field. NAS Key West Security personnel are tagging boats

and boat trailers, vehicles and other large items that are found stored, or possibly abandoned, on Navy property, particularly along Boundary Lane on Geiger Key. The orange tags alert owners that the items will be removed after 30 days.
