Activities carried out after NASE Course

Content of the Activity: Apparent Movement of the Stars due to Earth’s Movement Students: Grade 9 students (secondary) Date: April 19, 2021 Teacher: Marc Vener C. Del Carmen Short Narrative: This activity was inspired from NASE 200 and NASE 214 courses. The teacher utilized the cut-out materials for planisphere, quadrant (for sextant), solar demonstrator and stellar demonstrator. The teacher instructed the students to print the template and prepare needed materials one week prior to the activity. The teacher created a simple activity sheets where students can answer the questions using the NASE materials. Another set of activities using Stellarium application for the students who do not have printer. In the first synchronous session of the day, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., the students constructed the materials from the printouts with their teachers. Afterwards, it was explained to them how to use the planisphere, solar demonstrator, and stellar demonstrator for them to answer the questions. The process in using the sextant was also explained but the students will do it as an assignment later at night. The second synchronous session, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. was the actual discussion of the content of the lesson. The teacher used the observations of students from the NASE materials to make the learning process easier for the students.
