The McCarthy Library’s Collection Development Policy

The McCarthy Library at Napa Valley College maintains an interdisciplinary, curriculum-focused collection, with an emphasis on acquiring materials that directly support student learning, classroom activities and research-based curricula. Materials are selected for not only undergraduate students, but also for those in continuing education and adult education programs. The Library strives to provide a collection which contains current and retrospective materials and when necessary, partners with other local library collections and resources to meet specialized needs. Responsibility for collection development and management is primarily under the purview of the librarians. Librarians work collaboratively with faculty and staff to develop collections which focus on designated subject/discipline specific areas. This collaboration, along with participation
