BLACKS IN - Homesteaders Fair - RENOVATE a residence...BUY a building...GROW a garden

Page 1

Thank You!

You gave generously to our First Annual South Side Homesteaders Fair, and we hope you found value in participating. We appreciate you, and so did our guests! They came seeking ways that your products and services could help them “renovate a residence, buy a building, grow a garden”…save money, make friends, find jobs, and beautify along the way. A tall order…and we’re glad for your support on solutions as we continue consumer education over the next seasons and beyond…by blog and other digital local/national media…in printed West Woodlawn promotions…and through creative collaborations, sponsorships, and cooperative advertising. Please enjoy this Photo Gallery, Green-Village-Building™ Teach-In, and Draft Resource Directory. April 5th celebrated the newest phase of our sustainability initiative – focusing on community-controlled development and working to advance your work while we: a) foster, attract, and expand neighbor-owned businesses; b) teach home economics and the conservation lifestyle (we call it “the beautiful life!”); c) restore heritage traditions and resettle West Woodlawn with a new, young generation of homeowners; d) beautify and strengthen our walkable-village with a Botanic Garden & Village Farm system. Our team will be in touch with you during April to schedule a time we can talk, define ways we can best support your work, and refine our Resource Directory – which we will distribute at our Green Village Pavilion at the 25th Annual African Festival of the Arts in Washington Park, Aug 29 – Sep 1 2014. We believe in Chicago as a “City of Villages” – sustainable one square mile at a time; where every household can walk-to-work, walk-to-shop, walk-to-learn, walk-to-play; and we have answered the challenge of the Tribune “New Plan of Chicago” with this proposal, believing that “only a whole-system solution can transform the whole-system problem common to black communities everywhere.” We’re eager to add your best ideas. Of course our plans are “BIG”…and thanks for joining us on the journey. We look forward to your insights, introductions, resources, and partnership as we build a family of experts, specialists, and enthusiasts needed to restore our place in the world. Thanks again for your skill and dedication!
