REFLECTION The ability to reflect is an important skill as it allows you to critically think about what you have achieved, how you can improve, and how the skills you gained can be transferable (Mason, 2008). The editor’s responsibility lies in aligning the content with audience preference, ensuring authenticity, and adapting it appropriately for the chosen platform (Bradford, 2020). During my time as the editor, I was able to learn new skills, including: • Team Management: I learnt to be more confident in my leadership as an editor, ensuring all content creators knew their role that week. • Communication: was developed as there was difficulties in contacting colleagues and making sure they all met the production deadline. • WordPress: able to utilise my WordPress skills, ensuring that articles being posted online included appropriate links (that opened to a new web page), keywords to enhance search generated experience (SGE) and search engine optimisation (SEO), and were chunked into shorter paragraphs and included subheadings. • Tone of voice: I learnt the importance of maintaining a tone of voice throughout so your readership can recognise your content and relate to it (Graziano, 2022). The Guardian Style guide also was a useful tool in maintain tone of voice when editing.

From an overall experience reflection: • Learning InDesign: pushed myself to work with Adobe InDesign, I now feel confident in using the software • Copyrighting: able to exercise my writing skills and pushed myself to write in different styles.

NEW YORK STATE OF MIND
4
From Big Ben to Big Apple, my journey through the city that never sleeps left me breathless, spellbound, and a little sleep deprived.

From the iconic Big Ben to the pulsating heart of the Big Apple, my journey through the city that never sleeps was a whirlwind of awe, enchantment, and a tinge of sleep deprivation. New York City, a place where dreams are made, had me captivated from the bustling energy of Times Square to the tranquil beauty of Central Park. Each day unfolded like a new chapter in an adventure novel, and as I look back, join me on this caffeinated exploration through the city that never ceases to amaze.
DAY 1: LOST IN TRANSLATION
Jet lag hung over me like a fog, but the contagious energy of Manhattan’s streets could not be ignored. Walking through Times Square, I marvelled at the luminous billboards, a stark contrast to the grey skies above. Coffee became my saviour – a hot cup from a nearby Pret supplying the fuel to navigate the maze of skyscrapers.
DAY 2: UPTOWN ADVENTURE
The second day held a promise elegance and snow, and there was no better way to spend it than inside the famous walls of The Met. The evening was spent quite literally on top of the world... well Empire State Building, as the panoramic views from the top took our breath away, and almost our hats.
DAY 3: BROOKLYN BLISS
On day 3 we were Brooklyn bound, after stopping to pay our respects to the 9/11 memorial we found our way crossing the Brooklyn Bridge and having the mandatory photo shoot at DUMBO. To fight the fatigue, we found ourselves in the Time Out Market in Brooklyn sipping coffee and enjoying the must have pretzel when visiting New York.
DAY 4: WALKING THE HIGH LINE
Day 4 saw us taking it easy, as we walked the 2-mile-long elevated liner park, which was once a railroad which connected New York with west Manhattan. Despite the walk being incredibly cold it was a fantastic way to nosey in all the expensive apartments that surrounds the walkway, recommended if you’re an interior design lover. We tied up our last full day in the Olive Garden in Times Square, marvelling over the endless breadsticks and the bright lights. As I boarded the flight home, coffee-stained memories of New York City lingered. The city had tested my endurance, and I needed a week to recover, but its vibrant welcome and a cup of coffee in my hand is what carried me through. And now looking back it all just feels like a weird fever dream.

T
he 21st century is an era defined by innovation, individualism and the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle, and Generation Z has taken the lead in redefining what it means to live a fulfilling life. As this generation gets older and experiences more of life, the wellness industry is undergoing a major transformation, evolving from the old-as-time sayings “health is wealth” and “wellness is a way of life”.
The power of personalisation
Gen Z have grown up in a world where personalisation is how they express themselves and have created the artform of self-care. They are no longer looking for a one-size-fits-all solution to wellness but want the ability to tailor a solution to their unique needs, values and lifestyles. From personalised vitamin plans based on a personal profile to AI-powered meditation apps, the wellness industry is now seen to be investing in cutting edge technology to create bespoke solutions for a generation that crave authenticity and individuality.
Community and connection
There is no doubt that Gen Z is connected through the screens, however there is an ongoing hunger for authentic, in person connections. The wellness industry has recognised this yearning and is fostering communities through wellness retreats, local Pilates studios, and in the online space. These communities provide a space where Gen Z can not only learn and grow, but also form bonds with like-minded individuals.
What this all means
The rise of the wellness industry is a testament to the changing tides of cultural norms and generational values. Gen Z’s imprint on the industry is unmissable, transforming it from a niche market to a mainstream ‘trending’ phenomenon. The emphasis on personalisation, mental health, sustainability and community is re-shaping the way we think about self-care and well-being. With Gen Z leading the way, the wellness revolution is well and truly here, and it promises a brighter, healthier future for all generations.
Mental health is at the forefront
Thanks to Gen Z’s ongoing advocacy for destigmatising the stigma around mental health, a much-needed conversation has been opened in the wellness industry, and with the rise of social media, Gen Z has mastered the ability of storytelling from personal experiences, making it easier for others to share their mental health experiences. As a result, the mental health industry is rapidly expanding its range of mental health offerings, from virtual therapy sessions to apps that promote mindfulness and emotional resilience.
A sustainably conscious generation
Sustainability matters to Gen Z. This generation is driving the demand for eco-friendly products, cruelty free beauty brands, and sustainable wellness practices. From yoga studios filled with recycled materials to all-natural skincare lines, Gen Z are shaping the wellness industry into a more planet-focused space. for this generation.
Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a way of life for this generation.
